Summary: Interesting Sci-Fi
Review: This book is a great sci-fi read but does not really coorespond withwhat the Bible says will happen in end times.....The Last Day is agood read and keeps you on your toes.in writing, comparative religion, and science before embarking on this ludicrous effort. His madscientist scenario creaks with age, his characters are flat. This isone piece of junk that I sincerely regret throwing my time away on.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Interesting but too preachy
Review: Based on the previous Amazon.com reviews of this book I was a little disappointed. It reads more like a sci-fi movie than a story based on the end times. To be fair, the book is a real page-turner with some interesting surprises, hence, the 3 stars. What disappointed me was its ignorance and/or misinterpretation of Biblical prophecy. For example, the book's Brotherhood of Man philosophy gets old rather quickly. If you're looking for a clue as to what to expect in the Last Days this book is not for you.

For a Biblically-based perspective on the end times check out the "Nicholae" book series by Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye or even Frank Peretti's new book, "The Visitation".

Summary: Wonderful story
Review: Anyone who's ever had to sit through a sanctimonious Sunday sermon will find this novel immensely satisfying. Here, the tables are finally turned and a messenger from God gives the holier-than-thou's their comeuppance. It's done with great finesse and wit, and is humorous at times but also quite frightening. The story is so credible, you will find yourself responding as if it really is happening. A very entertaining and enjoyable novel.

Summary: Gives religious hypocrites a major league wedgie
Review: This book rocks. Never read anything like it before. Unpredictable, exciting story that keeps your heart racing to the final page. Filled with lots of wisdom, humor and chills. Makes some really strong points about intolerance and prejudice while keeping you in the throes of suspense about exactly what this incredibly beautiful, mystical and enigmatic Jeza is all about. I've ordered copies for friends and highly recommend this book.

Summary: Very interesting
Review: This is a very different book. Unlike most big publishing house novels today, The Last Day isn't simply a story you read to kill time. It is a fast-paced thriller/mystery, but with a great deal more to it--it makes you think. The book puts forth some very interesting and provocative statements about modern day society and organized religions, but it's not a religious book, per se. I was surprised to see the story deal with so many controversial and touchy contemporary issues, but even more surprised in the way it handled them. In the context of the plot--which is complex but not confusing--the main characters play out both sides of these controversial issues, arriving at some unexpected conclusions. I realize in finishing the book that there were a lot of clues sprinkled throughout that I think I overlooked. I want to read this again, but have to say that I found it wonderfully stimulating and suspenseful throughout, and probably one of my favorite novels since Robert Penn Warren's All The King's Men.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Frighteningly believable but a lot of fun
Review: I can see where some readers might be upset by this novel. It cuts deep. Anyone who thinks religion is above criticism shouldn't read this. For those who enjoy a gripping, thrilling epic with a maze of intrigue, (and can keep an open mind), this is one of the best.

Summary: A wake up call
Review: This story touched me very deeply. I was a former novitiate (4 1/2 years, Dominican order), and have strong, if mixed, feelings for my Church. I was amazed to read a novel that so eloquently addressed many of the very issues that caused me to give up my calling. The scenario depicted in this book is a frightening one. But at heart are vital issues that all organized religions should be seriously considering. Unfortunately, most are not. When the time does come for the judgmental religions of the world to themselves be Judged, how will they fare? In that regard, I believe this novel is more fact than fiction. It should be required reading for all clergy, and will be fascinating reading for everyone else.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Phenomenal.
Review: Of recent novels, only The Triumph and the Glory compares to this powerful novel. The Last Day is profoundly effective, a fascinating journey through epic events, with a main character of such charisma and mystique as to rival any in the history of literature.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of a kind story
Review: Has anyone come across another novel at Amazon that has as many reader reviews as this one? I haven't found any. This novel is certainly deserving of all the attention it's gotten and I encourage anyone who wants a good benchmark of the turning millennium to read this.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Is there less than one star?
Review: I don't know what this book is considered but a thriller it is not. That would require suspense and thrills. It won't win any prizes for writing either. Not being Catholic, I don't know if the church bashing is accurate, only that it got pretty ugly and took-up too many pages. I hated the obnoxious messiah character - nasty, spiteful, one-dimensional, and plain dumb. Who'd follow that weirdo. She had me feeling sorry for the members of all the religions she condemns. Even the Mormons! I think this is a dreary, depressing read that has little of interest in it. Who told this author he could write? Who would recommend a turkey like this?
