Summary: Beware!
Review: Enter only if you dare. Your survival kit should include: 1) An open mind 2) A sense of humor 3) Intelligence. This is not your typical suspense novel. There's a whole lot more to this story than I could imagine. As you get inexorably drawn into this inriguing plot, you will begin to see why this novel has become so controversial. That the religious right despises it should be enough of an endorsement for most intelligent readers, but even if you're not into the satirical elements, it's a hell of a thrilling read. Five stars.

Summary: One of the best books I've ever read
Review: I can't say enough about this book. It kept me glued to my chair until I finished it. It was one of those books you never want to see end. Thrilling, thought provoking, scary and funny all the way through. It will make you look at the coming millenium in a whole new light.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent, fast-paced read with an intriguing millenial bent
Review: Beginning the book with skepticism, I was quickly pulled into the plot. I found the development of the story and the religious plot lines fascinating and the key to the story (i.e. whether the "messiah" is real)was kept in doubt to the end. The "wrap up" at the end of the book is somewhat weak, but on balance a well above average read.

Summary: One of the most thought provoking books of the year
Review: Should come with a money back guarantee, it was great

Review: I had a lot of fun with this novel. It had me guessing, wondering, and biting my nails all the way through. A top notch, unpredictable thriller with a neat twist of an ending.

Summary: Unique and Thought Provoking
Review: I liked the book, however, I thought the writing is less than literature. Kleier's character dialogs were simplistic and in some cases stupid. This is not Pulitzer Prize winning stuff. Also, his characters were one dimensional. In particular the female characters with the exception of Jeza, were stereotypical and throughout the novel quite subordinate to every male character. Ironic considering Jeza's farewell address. Kleier apparently talks the talk but in the end proves that some of the very views he condemned in the novel are engrained in his own psyche.

That being said, I thought some of the ideas that he presented were brilliant. Incidently, I didn't really view his attacks on the Catholic Church to be that pervasive. Clearly his attacks on religious organizations centered around the Catholic Church because it is the most widely recognized religious organization in the world. Simply put, he wrote about what he believed would strike a cord in the majority of the readers. A cop out...sure, but the idea is to get in our face and challenge our own deep set beliefs. I seriously doubt this book changed many minds in terms of our religious beliefs, however, the author's ideas were thought provoking and certainly give one pause to how one sees themself in a world where religions have molded our views so completely, in good ways as well as bad. It also serves as reminder that maybe humanity should not be lost in the ruthless pursuit of religious truth.

Summary: Not what I expected
Review: I bought this book and put off reading it because I had the impression it was more a religious story. I was surprised in finally reading it to see that it's really not. While the story is about the bizarre happenings surrounding the arrival of a self-proclaimed messiah woman, the story takes more of a secular look at the situation. It's a different and interesting perspective, which I felt gave the story a lot more realism and balance. This approach also created a great deal more drama, because the events aren't clouded in mysticism--they are presented straightforward and "factually" from the viewpoint of a professional reporter who is an eye-witness to the scoop of a lifetime. This is a gripping story with so much to it that I feel I should read it again to get a fuller understanding. An excellent and exciting book.

Summary: A scary, if plausible, scenario
Review: At long last, the self-righteous, judgmental clergy of the world get their just desserts in this brilliant suspense thriller/satire. Jeza, a female messenger of God (maybe!), arrives in a fireball to judge the organized religions of the world. The results are anything but what you might expect. Her theology is blasphemous, yet entirely logical. Her message is as frightening as it is reasonable. Before you know it, you're caught up in a mystery of biblical proportions. I've not come across a more engaging or intelligent novel in a long time. This one will keep you up at night. An absolutely thrilling, thought-provoking read.

Summary: A very good book
Review: I can't speak to all the controversy about whether this book is accurate or not, I'm not a religious person. But as an avid reader, I can speak to the fact that it's a very, very well done book, with excellent writing, a very different plot, and fascinating, believable characters. This is as exciting a book as I've ever read, a terrific, fast-paced tale that kept my attention all the way through. And anyway, last time I heard, a novel is FICTION--which means it's irrelevant whether or not the scenes depicted here are based on reality. Ignore the petty religious squabblings of reviewers on this page, this is a damn good suspense thriller, and that's the facts, Jack.

Summary: A great novel with a message
Review: Because of one of the reviews I read here, I bought the book thinking I would get upset at this novel because I'm Catholic. Quite the contrary. This novel is 100% accurate about how politicized and money-oriented the Church is becoming. As a deacon in a large-city parish, I can tell you how pressured we are by Rome about money! The waiting list for our school is long, and guess what special grace moves a child's name up to the top of the list? You guessed it, not how long you've been on the list, not prayer or piousness or how long you've belonged to the parish--it's $$$! I believe this novel was written for those of us who love our Church, but who love the truth more. This book has a lot of truth to it, and I liked it, regardless of what other Catholics think!
