Summary: Long time fan HUGELY DISAPPPOINTED
Review: Unlike some of my fellow reviewers, I am very disappointed in this latest Dirk Pitt novel. I felt like I was reading exerpts from previous books that had been strung together and re-titled. I have faithfully and happily read every book from the very first one and we need either a major injection of new ideas for the next plot or the series needs to stop. I cannot believe that Clive Cussler himself was not bored while writing this one because I was certainly bored while reading it!

Summary: Valhalla Rising
Review: The book was a much needy fix for any Clive Fans. Dirk has aged well and still commands a fitting performance. There were a lot of twists that added a lot of dimension to Dirks past. It definitely opens the door for future books relating to the surprising ending. Clive has hit the mark yet again!

Summary: Valhalla Rising
Review: Clive Cussler has done it again. Another excellent book with Dirk, Al and all the usual characters. The ending will knock your socks off if you're a true Dirk Pitt fan.

Summary: The Newest Clive Cussler
Review: A typical Cussler, which means it's a fast, good read. This one isn't particularly inventive. The inclusion of Cussler as a character continues to be silly and annoying. The ending, suggesting the next tale, is particularly absurd.

Summary: Clive Cussler in True Vintage Form
Review: Dirk Pitt and the whole cast of characters have become like family friends over the years, ones you can identify and empathize with as they pursue various NUMA projects. This latest installment will be immensely satisfying to Clive Cussler fans. In true style, Cussler begins with two different historical events prior to launching into the current story. These two events seem totally unrelated, and the reader is well into the book before he begins to see how they may eventually become an integral part of the story.
The ending of this book is probably the best yet to come from
this prolific author. Totally unexpected events happen right down to the final page. This ending has me extremely excited to see where Cussler goes with it in the next Dirk Pitt novel. No hints from me as to the nature of the ending; just be sure that you will thoroughly enjoy the unexpected and intriguing outcome
Cussler provides.
Clive Cussler, Write On!!

Summary: Cussler as Deux machina
Review: When things seem really hopeless, the fictitious Cussler saves the day. I don't mind that really and I do enjoy the 'old grizzler' having his fun. This book is a tremendous read and a treat--all the good guys have clear honest eyes and the bad guys are just evil personified. Perhaps that's a tad too stereotypical but Cussler delivers a swell story each time.

One caveat: I didn't buy the ending at all. A bit too contrived and I just can't picture it. Sorry, Cussler, nice idea but let's not tie up all the loose ends too tightly ... or make up some!

Summary: Not his best, but lives up to expectations...
Review: Okay. If you read this book, and you have been following the series, you know its not going to top some of the earlier ones. But the ending is to die for! So, read it, and dont peek at the back pages! I will just reassure you that Dirk lives through his adventure, so for you nail-biting Pitt fans...he's just fine. Read it, love it, Viva Dirk Pitt...

Summary: Good Story, but typical Cussler
Review: If you like adventure, and don't mind leaving behind your reality meter, this is a pretty good story. However..the opening was the typical opening for a Dirk Pitt story, and it tended to drag on for a few too many pages. Since DRAGON, Cussler has become very wordy. It seems these days that the bigger named writers don't go in for editing, and I think this book suffers because of it. I feel this book could easily be 50 to 60 pages shorter, and still be a great story. But with phrases like, "Never in the annals of ocean rescue..", "History would record his deed as..." written in all over the place, the story's flow doesn't always remain smooth. I don't really know how to take Cussler adding himself into the story. (An entire chapter this time) Does a man with his real life accomplishments really feel the need to live Pitt's adventurous life vicariously? Or is it all just plain fun? For those of you who haven't read the book, I won't ruin it by telling you the ending, but I thought it was kind of silly. But all in all, Clive Cussler is a pretty good storyteller--not to mention an all around nice guy--and this book, in my humble opinion, ranks as one of his top five stories.

Summary: Worst one yet - nothing new - Cussler's getting tired
Review: I've read and re-read all of Cussler's stuff. Even the non-fictional material. Love it all. The last several have been major let downs. Valhalla Rising was the worst. While I still love all of the Pitt and Al exploits, and of course one must suspend reality, this one was poorly written.

Nothing new, in fact he once again borrows the exact same premises. How many times in all of his books can Pitt rescue a burning ocean liner? Haven't we seen this 1-2-3x before? The main bad guy is weak and not ever developed well. His henchman are also not developed well except for 1-2 characters.

It doesn't even really tie together well with the oil development and the high-tech engines.

I'm sorry to see it happen but it eventually does to all of the good writers. Clancy is exhibiting the same problem. Growing up it was Alistair MacLean. He was so good but eventually it was horrible.

Clive: quit now.

Summary: Best Clive Cussler Yet!
Review: Dirk Pitt is back and better than ever! The action-packed adventure starts in the first chapter and keeps you spell-bound through the rest of the book. Enjoy!
