Rating: Summary: What an ending Review: I am a huge fan of the Dirk Pitt series, I've read them all. This was a great book and I thank Clive Cussler for continuing to write them. However, the ending was the worst idea in the world. I don't know what Cussler was thinking! If you are a fan of the Dirk Pitt Series I sugggest reading this book, but do not read the last chapter. The last chapter will ruin the image of Dirk Pitt.
Rating: Summary: Running out of ideas are we? Review: I think the formula is getting real old. Running out of ideas here. We bring in teleportation. Seems like a hack job. I was very dissappointed.
Rating: Summary: Similar to Cussler's other books, better than Atlantis Found Review: Same general formula as all of Cussler's books so you know what you'll be getting. You have the nice cars, the beautiful women (no sex in this one and the possible future marriages in Atlantis Found just brushed off as not going to happen)the villains with outlandish plots, the technology past & present in advance of what it really was/is, you get it all. I did find the Viking angle interesting, as I also found the real Captain Nemo bit although they could've been better used and developed. The last page or two just seems to have been thrown in for filler, hints of a future plot series?
Rating: Summary: 5 STARS!! Review: I have read every one of clive cusslers books and i must say this is right up there with the best. I love this book!!! Cussler is truly at the height of his story telling powers.
Rating: Summary: Formula Novel Writing Review: I have loved Clive Cussler since his first book back in the early 70's. However, his last few have not been up to the quality of his earlier work. I found the scenes in this book to be repititious of other scenes in his previous works. Plus, anyone who has read any of his previous material knows the descriptions of Dirk, Al, et. al. This to me just seemed to be filler to make the book longer. The editing was a bit shoddy also. Pacific Chimera's name was changed from one chapter to another.
Rating: Summary: CC does it again Review: Alright, this is my second time doing this. Found out I helped two people so far with my last one. Maybe I should quit writing reveiws on books that I like, but it seems those are the only ones I read. Anyway on to the review. What a great read. It was a highly entertaining book, with a well thought out adversary. The idea of using something in one of Vernes classics adds to it as well. I mean what Cussler, would be a person I'd choose to add to any of the Verne classics. Nooow, the to truely appreciate the end. It would help to read an earlier work of his. And I do mean earlier. I would like to say exactly the right one, but I don't want to ruin the end for any other Cussler fan that may read this. Do yourself a favor and read this. Even if you are not a fan, it is a great book. If you are a fan, its a GREAT book :)
Rating: Summary: Another great Dirk Pitt book Review: Although Cussler's new book follows his usual story lines (starting his book with a few ancient mysterious facts (Vikings and Jules Verne) which he later ties into the story, Pitt meeting Cussler, and Pitt saving the world); he again has put together a great story. If you liked his previous Pitt adventures you will enjoy this one.
Rating: Summary: well worth the wait Review: Every two years I order Cussler Dirk Pitt books from the states, as I live in London and can not wait for them to be published over here.I find his work brilliant and that is all I have to say. I can not wait for the film "Sahara" to come out.
Rating: Summary: Valhalla Rising Review: I was totally enthralled with Valhalla Rising, until the final chapter!!!! Come on Clive, 2 grown kids, named Dirk and Summer? That was just about the worst ending to a Clive book I've ever read. I wish I would have stopped reading the chapter before! I certainly hope in the next book, the Dirk/Summer reincarnation is a international plot against Dirk, that brings together the entire NUMA team and affects each one of them.
Rating: Summary: Dirk Drivel Review: This is my first Clive Cussler book, and I found it to be literary drivel. The book was typical "if you can't figure out how to explain an event, make something phenomenal happen to explain away the event". The situations in the book are extremely cliche, and predictable. The only subplot in the book that wasn't predictable, was so far fetched, and out of place with the rest of the story it almost made me mad to be treated like a simpleton. Clive Cussler also uses himself in the book as a one-off character who saves the day. This I also found to be hogwash. In all, I was extremely under impressed with the book. I enjoy high adventure in the style of Indiana Jones and any Star Wars novel, I felt this book insulted my intelligence. I may read another Clive Cussler book to see if this particular work was just a bad day. Happy Reading everyone..
