Rating: Summary: the best X-Wing book Review: the bacta war was my favorite X-Wing book.it boasted a lot of action and fighting.the best book of them all. it is a fun book.
Rating: Summary: A Suitable Conclusion for the first four X-Wing novels. Review: Mike Stakepole does a nice job of wrapping up the first four books of the X-Wing series in "The Bacta War". It is clear after reading more than one of these novels that the author has a real flair for descriptions of combat and dog-fights in space. This stems somewhat from the fact that the books are loosely based on the "X-Wing" and "TIE Fighter" computer games released by LucasArts in the mid-1990s. Fans of these games will find a near instant familiarity with many of the terms used in those games, as will long time fans of the movies who have paid attention to the chatter of pilots. And indeed it seems to be the space battles which this book is based around. Although I found the majority of the book enjoyable Stakepole really shines when surrounded by the chaos space combat. Buy this book for the intricate battle set pieces but not for a deep character driven story.
Rating: Summary: This time, the battles are land-based... but still stupid! Review: Again, the cut-and-dried, bland, Corran-saturated, boring plot as in the first three books... this time about approx. a dozen people freeing a whole planet... totally stupid and unbelievable. Idiotic characters add to the general atmosphere of badness, topped off by a heaping dose of exciting-wannabe action. Follows in the mediocre tradtion of its prequals. Skip this and go on to the next book, Wraith Squadron.
Rating: Summary: THE Greatest X-Wing Novel yet!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This is an action pack book that is the greatest X-Wing book yet. The Rouges resign, all of them, and decide to go one-on-one against Isard who not by chance has settled in Thyffera, the planet that produces bacta. And Corosaunt is suffering from the Krytos virus, whose only cure is bacta. So the rouges go after Isard and the bacta. Hence giving the name The Bacta War. People might think me crazy but i thought it was quite funny. Especialy the diologs between Booster and Corran. It wont be easy because they have a ship feared even by the New Republic fleet. The Lusankya. One of the only remaining Super Star Destroyers left in the empire. Or whats left of it. A book that will produce lots of laughs and you will not be dissopointed with it at all. Trust me. One worth bying
Rating: Summary: DEFINITELY The Best X-Wing Book Ever ! Review: Before i reveiw this, I would like to add that in the title I meant the best out of all nine of the books, not just the first four. Anyways, I thatght that this one was great, since the main characters actually had some depth to them, not just Wedge and Corran (The main character in the first four and Isard's Revenge and I, Jedi). I loved the battles, though they could have benefited from being a little longer with the Star Destroyers. One of the only other mess-ups I found was the fact that Rogue Squadron goes up against a Super Star Destroyer (Lusankya), and an Imperial- class Star Destroyer (Virulence), and not ONE of the Rogues die! Anyways, this a great book, with the most violence in all of the X-wing books, and it has them actually talking with outsiders like smugglers (and another mystery race). BUY IT........ Darn it, stupid force!
Rating: Summary: Even Better Than Rogue Squadron! Review: To begin, I'd like to say that I'd actually rate this book five- and-a-half stars. It is great! There is plenty of action, pilot personalities really start to come out, and there is a dash of humor as well. The plot is this: Without the Rebel support, the Rogue pilots, including Wedge, have quit and gone off to defeat Ysanne Isard. They prepare for their assault on her base world of Thyferra by doing some deals with Talon Karrde, Gavin Darklighter's uncle, Mirax Terrik's father, and others. But Isard still has a Super Star Destroyer on her side! Will the Rogues do justice, defeat Isard, and rescue the prisoners on Lusankya? You'll just have to read the book yourself to get one of the best Star Wars experiences of your life!
Rating: Summary: good stuff Review: fast reading.
Rating: Summary: It was all right Review: This book was pretty good as it tied up all the loose ends left from the previous books in the series: Mirax and Corran, Isard and the bacta thing, Erisi, etc. (Except for Zsinj, but he gets dealt with later in the series.)Stackpole keeps up the excellent writing and stays true to what we've seen in these characters before, except Isard. Situations were written extremely well also, and the story flows very nicely. I'm also pleased with the direction of Corran Horn. I had a few problems with this book, though. In the end battle for Thyferra, I would've liked to see more ground action. If Stackpole is going to include a ground battle along with the space battle, he should describe both in equal amounts. Unfortunately, I thought there was far too much description of things happening in space that didn't need to be there. There's lots of character perspecitve and I got lost a few times. I also think that Stackpole threw everything he'd laid down about Isard out the window. No longer was she cunning and intellegent, but she was cocky and stupid. She just didn't seem to be the same character. And the fact that Bror Jace didn't die after all? It seems to me that the 'Impossible is what Rogues do best' phrase has been overdone. Jace didn't serve a significant role and was better off being a casuality. As just one book, I didn't like it, but since it's included in a series that seems to just all run together as one book, it was okay. The only reason I read this book at all was because I'd read the others. A good one for fans of the series or for people who have read the others. Recommended.
Rating: Summary: Does no one just stay dead anymore? (spoiler warning) Review: This was a good close out to the original four books of the X-wing series. Stackpole came on like gangbusters with his first three, the best of which was the third followed by the second. All new characters free the author to do daring things but. . . Every important character who died in this series was resurrected. Good character, that is. Andoorni Hui and Peshk Vri'syk are exceptions but then we never knew them to begin with. Same for Shiel. Lujayne dies and we get her sister. Jace dies and in the worst travesty of the whole series shows up in the last book for one chapter. Corran dies, no wait. Mirax dies, no wait. Gavin dies, no wait. The best sequences in the whole series are the deaths of Loor and Derricote. at least they stay dead. I hope, I haven't read Ruin yet and I'm very really afraid that they will show up at the end.
