Rating: Summary: A very good book!! Review: I like the whole serie very much!! Hehe Aurian is a cool woman. But one thing I didn't like that much was the age difference between Forral and Aurian, I mean he was old enough to be her father. But anyway, the whole serie is great!! And Maggie Furey is now one of my favourite writers. By the way! There are four parts of the serie, english version. But the swedish version (which I read) has eight parts and I think the pics on the front pages look better in the swedish version!!
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST!! Review: This book is one of the greatest books that i have ever read! The story line is always changing so that is a a complete mystery of what is going to happen next. Although Maggie Furey does seem to make the Mages a litle too powerful, she takes you mind off of that thought with richly colered detail down to the last rock in the wall of a stony castle. She keeps you on your toes, making you WANT to read on and find out what is going to happen next. I often found myself up at 11:30 trying to finish the next chapter. And even i am not too big of a reader. This is my second time reading it and it would still have to be my favorite book ever!! A MUST HAVE!! Enjoy. I know you will.
Rating: Summary: Very good! Review: I really enjoyed this... in fact the whole series is good. Great rollicking fun.
Rating: Summary: The worst book on earth Review: On the surface, Aurian is simply bad, cheap fantasy. The standard Tolkien plot copy-looking for magical artifacts? Come on! We've seen it before!-mixed in with magical, immortal Mages. The good characters are all magnaminous in their kindness and the bad characters are all horribly slimey and evil. The magical system knows no bounds-Furey awards her characters god-like powers, and as far as the magic itself goes: it is quite unblievable-in the sense that you don't believe it would ever happen even on a fantasy world. I have always felt that the real goal of fantasy-especialy fantasy in which magical powers are involved-is to make the reader lose themselves in the characters and the world the author builds. It takes extremely skilled writers to make the reader believe what they're reading in fantasy (e.g.-then the magical ring that Mary found in the woodpile turned a bright purple. The ring expanded-it was in fact a dragon! Mary got on it's back and...you see? Believable? Not really! But some authors make you believe). Maggie Furey does not do this in the slightest. As you read this book, you find yourself shaking your head and thinking "yeah, right." The only way you could call this book fast paced is if you like the way Furey changes plot direction with no warning and absolutely no style. Some authors can pull this off (George R. R. Martin). Furey isn't one of them. Aurian moves from place to place to place, winning origanaly hostile people over with her kindness and goodness, making them into allies. Please, for the good of innocent, unknowing, first time fantasy readers everywhere, don't buy this book. Hopefully it will go out of print soon so that new fantasy readers won't find themselves completley turned off to fantasy forever.
Rating: Summary: Lady Aurian - a mage you'll never forget Review: I bought this book on a whim- I love dragons and saw that there was one on the cover and the summary talked about the Dragon magic. Never have I been so thoroughly sucked into a book's world (save Anne McCaffery's Pern series). The characters, the plots, and Furey's uncanny way of leaving the story totally open- making you go crazy with anticipation. If you buy this book (which I suggest anyone who loves a good mage story do), be prepared to by the next, and the next, and the next.....
Rating: Summary: The Artifacts of Power Review: Maggie Furey intwines the senses with this face paced novel. The whole concept of 4 lost artifacts and a great magical war is simply ingenious! In fact this book is so fast paced the books begins with Aurian juggling ice blue fireballs. Mainly this book is about Aurian and her training as a mage at the Academy in the Holy City of Nexis run by the Archmage Miathan! If you love fast paced-books that suck you into them then this is the perfect series for you! I encourage people of all ages to read them...from 10-70 it doesnt matter. Maggie Furey is More than just a writer of words...she is a writer of Fantasy!!
Rating: Summary: a must read Review: The characters were enjoyabe and realistic. The plot was fast paced and left you hanging for more. The Aurain saga was by far the best i have ever read and i urge all fansay lovers to read this book. Maggie has a talent for writting thats hard to find amoung authers these days.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite books! Review: I could not put this book down once I began to read it. As soon as I finished I went right out to the book store and purchased the next one. I needed to know what would happen next. I have now read all the Artifacts of Power books. This series has taken up residence as one of my two favorite of all time!
Rating: Summary: Excellent series starter Review: When I bought the entire Artefacts of Power series (Aurian is merely the first), I had picked it as more of a wild card than an actual series I had to read. Now four books later I'm definately glad I bought them. Maggie Furey has created a well thought out world in both the physical and metaphysical sense. The countries and thier inhabitants are very believable in this series (thus making the physical), while the unique system of magic Ms Furey has created is among the best I have ever seen (the metaphysical). But apart from the creative side, I found Ms Furey's style to be quite enjoyable to read. She has a gift that enables her to describe convaluted plots and characters in a simple and fast-paced way. Although I'm used to reading heavy, complicated writing styles, I always enjoy entertaining styles such as the one Maggie Furey writes with. It is the smooth flowing and simple writing of Maggie Furey that allows one to read all four books in such an abnormally short time. There is only one thing I disliked about this romantic-fantasy adventure, and that was how it all tied together in the last book. I won't spoil anything here, but I found that the majority of Dhiammara had a great plot which was tainted by being compacted into such a small space. The ending to the entire series was very rushed, giving the impression that Ms Furey tried to fit the plots of two books into one single volume. Nevertheless, Aurian and the Artefacts of Power are some of the better fantasy books I've read and a good entrance by Maggie Furey into the world of novel writing.
Rating: Summary: Good Female Characters At Last Review: This held my interest as no others have in a while. Aurian the heroine is a great female character who reflects a more realistic depiction of a woman than most. Women are as brave, courageous, strong and clever as men and these characteristics are emphasised in Aurian. This is a classy book which will entertain the reader with its twists and turns.
