Rating: Summary: Compltetly unputdownable. Review: I read the whole series from start to finish and it revolusionized my life. I've never been a big fan of fantasy till one day i was walking about in the local library and it captured my eye. I borrowed it, took it home, and could absolutly not tear my eyes away from it till I'd finished. I also showed it to my friend, who then discovered, much to my joy, the other books in the series. I was hooked, and still am. i can not wait to read more of Maggie fureys books!! The Artefacts of Power series is compelling, scintilating, fast paced and magnificently sculptured. I never knew one book (well, 4) could change my life and outlook so dramatically. For me, Aurian and the world she lives in is real, and somewhere in my soul, forever will be.
Rating: Summary: An exciting fantasy novel that appeals to all ages! Review: This exciting fantasy novel tells the story of Aurian (a red-headed mage), of her adventures and of her friends. I enjoyed this well written book and I recommended it to my sister and my mother. They both love the book. I have already read "Harp of Winds,"The Sword of Flame", and have just started "Dhiammara!" I hope that Maggie Furey will write more of these fantastically magical stories! I loved this book and hope that everyone who reads it will enjoy it as much as I have.
Rating: Summary: A book like other fantasys, not much talent too. Review: I¡¦m sure everyone knows how to spot a good author and a bad author. This one is a 3/5(0-bad, 5-good). Firstly, the plot. It isn¡¦t actually bad, but it isn¡¦t new. I could really predict what would happen. It is exciting but pulled down by the author¡¦s writing style. No one likes a story pace that¡¦s too fast. Imagine writing about a journey to defeat an evil dragon. A good writer would write about the whole journey, how the character got there, difficulties met, thoughts and emotions etc. Not just: I got on the road to the cave. I fought with the dragon. I killed it, but lost a lot of blood. I got back home and cried myself to death. End. See what I mean? This is how Maggie Furey writes. It was a total disaster in the first half, no make it 2/3 of the book. Thoughts like ¡¥why did I buy this¡¦ and ¡¥this writer doesn¡¦t know how to write¡¦ floated around in my mind. Maggie Furey, however, improved in the last 1/3 of the book, where Aurian was in the southern country, looking for Anvar. Here, the writing style improved immensely as she actually wrote about the journey, not the main points. But then, it seemed this improvement was short lasting.. When Aurian was traveling through the desert, Maggie Furey got back into her ¡¥too fast pacing¡¦ again. She rushed through the whole thing and all I know is that she defeated a dragon and recreated the Staff of earth(or something like that). What happened to Raven? The others? They were mentioned a bit, but, come on, the world isn¡¦t composed of only two people. I don¡¦t really plan to buy the second book, unless I can borrow from the library or something. Maggie Furey showed that she CAN write ( in about 1/6 of the whole book, but maybe someone wrote it for her.). If there isn¡¦t some significant improvement in her writing skills, its down the pits for her.
Rating: Summary: Love, friendship, grief, magic. Review: This is the first book in the Artefacts of Power tetralogy (followed by Harp of Winds, The Sword of Flame and Dhiammara).Aurian is a red-haired young girl, daughter of the Magefolk, who lives with her mother Eilin in the crater left by the magical accident that killed her father. Upon hearing of the catastrophe, Forral, a skilled Mortal swordsman, friend of Aurian's late father, comes to offer his help. Although most unwelcome by Eilin at first, he'll take care of Aurian's education and physical training as she grows up. It won't take the little girl very long to fall in love with the man. But soon it's time for Aurian to move to the city of Nexis and its Academy, to be trained among the Mages. Only then does she realize the social chasm and power struggle that exist between the Mage and Mortal casts. Anvar is a slave boy working in the kitchens. Being regularly beaten by his master, he escapes one day from the Academy, and stumbles upon Aurian. Being of a gentle nature, she decided to takes him under her wing, as her personal servant. For Miathan the Archmage, this is going to far, for he wants Aurian for himself. Before long, his jealousy and thirst for power will lead to a terrible confrontation, releasing deadly wraiths, unleashing Hell. Aurian has no choice but to sail away. But in the magical storm created by Eliseth the Weather-Mage, she stands no chance and she soon finds herself stranded on the shores of the beautiful yet hostile Southern Kingdoms, where she'll rediscover the history of the only weapons that can defeat Miathan: the Artefacts of Power. Aurian is a wonderful fantasy, packed with action and unexpected turns. The world created by Maggie Furrey is enchanting and mysterious, her characters endearing and real. And even though Aurian's capricious and impulsive temper sometimes had the tendency to get on my nerves, I grew very fond of Anvar and I'm looking forward to seeing their friendship evolve and the story unravel.
Rating: Summary: fascinating Review: When my boyfriend bought "Sword of Flame" he did it just because its Italian edition was out of print. I was so curious about the reason why the third book of a fantasy series should be impossible to find that I decided to buy "Aurian". And then I understood. This book is captivating, I couldn't put it down. When the protagonist is forced to sail to the Southern Realms the setting suddenly becomes exotic... and exciting. It is well plotted, even if the characters are fully developed just in "Harp of Winds". I strongly advise everyone to read it, even if they find its 'first' pages (until Aurian and Forral become lovers) not so intresting, for a story of about 2000 pages needs some time to be brought into real action. Definitely worth reading. I just hope that there won't be neverending sequels.

Rating: Summary: A rich, compelling and utterly enchanting story! Review: I thought this book was fabulous. You really get wrapped up in the whole plot, and begin to really care about the characters. The world created by Maggie Furey is exciting and challenging, and well worth visiting. My only complaint is that at times I felt Anvar pushed himself on Aurian and therefore that their relationship progressed faster than it should have done, but otherwise a brilliant story.
Rating: Summary: Escaping life? Review: It's just like any other fantasy book. Wizards, spells, magic, romance. But just like any other fantasy book, it allows you to escape into another world no matter how unrealistic it can be. Although the events happen a little to quickly for me, I find that this book is addicting. Its just like a soap opera, so much drama. Generally, I escape from life in any book. But the more mystical and unbelievable a story can be, can draw you more away from real life and put you in there like a third person, a shadow, it makes me feel as though im part of it and thats how life is, especially when i really get lost in the words.
Rating: Summary: Delicous Brain Candy Review: Aurian is the start of an extremely entertaining series. While the settings and plot have been seen before in other incarnations, it is definately not the standard Tolkien rip-off. The characters are so engrossing you won't be able to put it down. the whole series is good, though I was kind of disappointed in the last book. Aurian doesn't make you re-examine your beliefs or society like other sci-fi and fantasy, but it is very entertaining, and for that I give it 5 stars. I reccomend it to people who like classic high fantasy and a fight between good and evil.
Rating: Summary: A good start for the series Review: A complex but entertaining fantasy with a lot of heart. Good character development and setting up for the next book in the series but it won't stand on it's own since it's a continuing story so be prepared to follow up with the rest.
