Summary: OK story, but could have been much better. No excitement.
Review: I guess I found this book to be a bit boring at times because it was the only "New Frontier" book that wasn't devoted entirely to the crew of the Excalibur. All of the other ones are, and when you take a detour from the norm, you get sidetracked. I was thinking another fight on the starship was in order. However, I had to wait until the next book for that kind of excitement.

Summary: Little Focus on Excalibur Crew
Review: I have to admit that although I love Peter David's writing, this book left me a little wanting at the end. The "Quiet Place" finale was not all that interesting and I was waiting for more appearances by the rest of the Excalibur crew. I appreciated the focus on Zak, Si Cwan and Soleta, but there should have been less of an emphasis on introducing us to Xyon.

The ending was cute and I am definitely getting more of the series.

Summary: Wasn't someone pregnent at the end of #6?
Review: I have to admitt that the Star Trek book are a guilty pleasure. They are to real science fiction what grocery store romances are to real literature, Cheap and easy fun. I think I have enjoyed the "New Frontier" books especially because they stand on their own and have never been on video. I also like the fact that they are maybe a little less spit and polish than the rest of statfleet.

I do have one bone to pick with this book though. It's been a while since I read #6 but I thought Soleta found out she was pregnent at the end of #6. Now I know that Vulcans are supposed to be focused and logical, but shouldn't it have at least been alluded to in this book? It's not the sort of thing you can put a shelf until it fits into your schedule.

Summary: Not the best of the seris, but a good addition.
Review: I started reading Peter David's Star Trek: New Frontier series when the first four novels were put out in a single volume. Since then I have been waiting paitently for these and other follow up novels. Not the best of David's work, but a great read. I really like the crew and it was fun to find out who this new, and very interesting, character was. Can't wait until some more of the seris comes out. The additional stuff on The Redeemers was handled very well; the best part of the book in my opinion. Overall, a great read - pick it up, but don't expect it to be as good as some of the earlier novels, but it is worth it.

Summary: Surprise Ending Not To Miss
Review: I've followed the crew of Excalibur for the past seven books now, and found Quiet Place entertaining. Not the best in the series, but worth a read. Mr. David has a wonderful prose that allows the reader to "sink" into the story, a trait that this reader most enjoys.

A little bit too shy on action for my tastes, but the character develoment is worthwhile (including a few interesting facts about Brikar physiology).

The ending is fantastic... don't spoil it for yourself... read the whole book through and be amazed!

Summary: The Continuing Voyages...
Review: I've read all of the books in this series, so far, and I must say that I find them to be great books. The author has done a great job developing the characters. However, the characters that appeared in the TV series (Shelby, Selar, and Lefler) don't seem to be quite the same as they were on the show. (Lefler still quotes her laws, though.) One major problem that I've noticed. Robin Lefler, the Excalibur's Operations Officer, starts the series as a Lieutenant, and suddenly, in this book we find she's an Ensign! When, why and how, she was demoted (if in fact that's what happened), is never covered, and in book 8, she's still an Ensign. I think this may have been an accident on the part of the author, but I would like to know, one way or the other. Maybe a future book can explain this. Except for that flaw, the series is great. I instantly found myself liking the science officer, Lieutenant Soleta, and she has quickly become my favorite character.

Summary: New Frontier and New Characters!
Review: If you were looking for a lot of action on board the USS Excalibur and interaction with her crew... then you have the wrong book.

Meet Riella... a young Montosian girl plagued by dreams of darkness and a Red Faced Man. She believes she has been on the placid planet Montos all her life.

Enter Xyon... a rogue, scoundrel, thief and self proclaimed Hero. For some reason, the Dogs of War have heard about Riella and the information she stores in her dreams, Xyon learns that this girl is in danger and rushes off to rescue the damsel in distress before the Dogs find her.

Riella doesn't know wether to trust this young hero who, quite literally, saves her from the jaws of the Dogs of War. Or his ship, Lyla. What was Lyla before her personality was downloaded into this high tech space ship? Why did she allow Xyon to steal her?

Add the religious zealots known as the Redeemers into the mix and WHAM! what a book! This was definately setting us up for book #8. Great visuals and interesting new characters!

Summary: Exhilarating . . . though not as good as the previous series
Review: It was a great read, though I found one mispelling. It felt like it was written rather quickly, some scenes were slow while others were moving too fast. It is nice to read it, but most of the book seem to be building up toward a climax to be read in book eight.

It was funny and exhilarating. It was not as good as the previous novels.

Summary: The Bob
Review: It was one of the best Star Trek: New Frontier Books, but i should have had more of Captain Calhoun, other than him telling Kebron and Si Cwan of how good they are to follow his standards, and getting punched in the jaw. Now I wil turn this reveiw over to Bob. "Hi, my name is bob and I would like to say that I have been to the quiet place, and I saw my evil toe."

Summary: Peter David Does it Again!
Review: Keep your eyes on Xyon... and the Dogs of War... You will enjoy this novel. He's just like his father... but I won't give that away... and DO NOT AT ALL READ THE LAST PAGE OF THE NOVEL! I DID AND IT SPOILED THE EFFECT...

Just read the novel slowly and carefully and you will find he did a great job.
