Rating: Summary: A Good Quick Fast Read. Review: I bought this book based upon the reviews here, as well as the fact there are 2 sequels both of which are apparently well thought of. I enjoyed this book and was finished before I even realized it. The book kept my interest and I really enjoyed the ending and look forward to reading The Dragon Society (I've already bought it). If you enjoy good, interesting and fast paced fantasy this book is for you. Nothing high thinking like Song of Fire and Ice series by George R.R. Martin, but definitely better than the garbage Goodkind's been putting out lately.
Rating: Summary: Good adventure/Lightweight Fantasy Review: I found this book very interesting, although simple. I would rate this book as light reading, nothing compared to Feist or Jordan but very unique in the writer's approach. Can a book be too fast? Many times I think the book goes entirely to fast for its own good, some things are over explained over and over and others explained in one sentence and never again. The main character jumps from one thing to the other in just a couple of pages, from talking about a duel to the actual duel and completing the duel can be done in a couple pages. Sort of takes the suspense out of it. There is way to much whining about the injustice of the world by the main character and at the same time his lust for vengeance is hard to swallow, just not very believable. The whole story has little originality involved pretty much cookie cutter. Those are my negative things, what kept me coming back and reading more, some may wonder? Adventure! These books are great adventure stories, simplistic but exciting. The "what will happen now" keeps the pagers turning, the books are really good at that. The villains are black and white, however the main character is surely grey, many times he is as bad as the ones he is after for retribution. No he does not hurt the innocent directly, but in his lust for vengeance this is not a major concern in his mind. If you like a fast paced adventure fantasy story then this is the one for you.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't stop. Review: I have always been a big fan of Lawrence Watt-Evans and read every book I can get my hands on. I am seeing a definate trend of an already great author getting better as more books are written. You can't go wrong with buying a Watt-Evans book. Each New book is my new favorite!
Rating: Summary: A Perfect Fantasy Novel Review: I read a lot of fantasy; it's my favorite genre, and has been for 20+ years. Lots of books are good, but most have a little flaw here or there -- a character does something stupid, a lame plot twist, some boring description. DRAGON WEATHER was perfect. The characters were fun, interesting and believable. The story moved along at a good pace, never confusing and never dull. Even when I thought something might have been a coincidence, nope, there was always a good (if surprising) reason for what happened. The language was easy to read and elegant. Best of all was the ending. I won't give anything away, but it's the best ending I've ever read. Perfectly logical and a total surprise. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Dragon Weather Review: I think that this book was one of the best books I have ever read. I liked it because it had a very good storyline involved in it and also I liked the whole thing about the dragons and what happens to the main character, which makes it very interesting. I recommend this book to all fantasy enthusiasts and to everyone that wants to read a really good book. I also think that the author of this book is a very good writer with descriptive words that make you see in your mind what things look like, especially in the battle scenes. He also has many talents like making you know the characters emotions pretty well, and making you care for the character. I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out which is called Dragon Society. The author also has some other books that sound interesting like, The Blood of a Dragon. So once again, if you like to read you need this book!
Rating: Summary: A good page-turner Review: I've read most of Watt-Evans books. I like this more than most. So what if it's a rewrite of "The Count of Monte Cristo". It's a GOOD rewrite!
Rating: Summary: Lawrence does it again Review: It's been a long time since I enjoyed reading a fantasy novel this much. While a long time fan of this author, I think this is one of his best efforts since the publication of the Overman series. This book in the classic "person wronged and getting even" genre like the "Count of Monte Cristo". In fact, the main character, Arlian, follows a very similar path, from a boyhood cut short by being sold into slavery, to his eventual escape and plan to revenge himself on those who did this to him by posing as a Lord and getting wealthy from a hidden stash. I could hardly put it down. It's a definite must read for anyone who has admired Lawrence Watt-Evans' books as long as I have, and for anyone who wants to try him out for the first time. An excellent work of fantasy.
Rating: Summary: wonderfully well written! Review: It's really hard to find good one-book fantasy, in my opinion, but Dragon Weather is certainly one of my favorites. I could hardly put it down. I really enjoyed Watt-Evans's style, and only fault him on one count - in the beginning portion of the book, he really hits you over the head with his foreshadowing, and I worried the suspense wouldn't hold my attention, but boy, did it! I was nearing the end and saw no possible good way for this book to end without several sequels, but then he ties it all amazingly! Very satisfying, it was!
Rating: Summary: SWEET BOOK, WOULD MAKE A SUPER MOVIE Review: ITS AWESOME! GREAT BOOK, SEQUEL IS NOT AS GOOD, BUT I THINK IT SETS UP THE PLOT NICELY FOR THE FINAL BOOK. I CNAT WAIT TO SEE HOW THE SERIES TURNS OUT.
