Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Smouldering Water
Review: Pretty Good New Idea, but a pretty predictable plot. You can easily figure out the entire plot of the book from the first few chapters, especilally if you have read much else from this author.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Really a three and a half
Review: The Diana Tregarde books are recommended by amazon for people who have read the Anita Blake series. Burning Water is entertaining but much less vivid than the Blake books, most obviously Obsidian Butterfly. The story line is very good with lots of action but the characters tend to be a little one dimensional with too many references to past events with no explanations. A good book but not on the level of LKH.

Summary: The Water's Pretty Hot
Review: This is a great book. I'm a fan of the Diana Tregarde series and this is just another proof of how excellent this series is. The only thing that could've been done better was if there was more problems. The only problems the main characters encounter is a lack of knowledge and/or power.

Summary: an excellent book, good plot too bad there won't be more
Review: This is probably the best book in this series and one of the better Lackey books, set in Dallas with a strong plot envolving Aztec mythology and occult detectives this book keeps the reader interested until the end. I was disappointed to learn that there would not be any more books in this series due to poor sales. While I can understand Ms. Lackey's point of view I felt that this was a truly good sereies that deserved more attention than it has recieved.

Summary: The Return of Historical Fiction
Review: This was a great book for those with a strong stomach. The author artfully combines the rituals of the ancient Indians with modern-day society. One of my favorite books of all time.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Occult Mind Candy
Review: Wicca is one of the fastest growing religions in America today. Here's a fun read between casting spells and attending esbats. Lackey spins a great yarn, keeping basic neo-Pagan principles straight, and is one of the few authors who realizes that modern Witches aren't a bunch of blood-licking satan-worshipping child-sacrificers.

Beyond belief systems, Lackey can spin a yarn that keeps the reader entertained. This book is no exception. Easy to get into, enough suspense to keep it engrossing, and a sense of satisfaction at the end. Good, occult fun!

If you'd like to read something a bit meatier, however, consider the occult novels of Dion Fortune, particularly the Sea Priestess and Moon Magic. Although these books do not read as quickly, they contain beautiful examples of ritual liturgy and even work as magical training guides for those so inclined.
