Summary: the Underdogs of Space
Review: This is an amusing and easy to read novel. The first in a series, it is really an introductory book. It's not really an original idea, but it's still enjoyable. It's very much like the movie "stripes" or "private benjamin" in outer space.

When "Captain Jester" takes over the "omega Company" in the Space Legion, the troops - all tagged as 'loosers' and 'whimps' get more than they bargained for. Their new commander is one of the richest men in the galaxy and quickly applies what he has learnt in buisness to his troops. The result is a turnaround that none of the troops or anybody else in know space would have believed if they hadn't seen it.

For an afternoon's light reading this is a good book. I'm off to get book 2 "Phule's paradise" for another bought of light-on-the-brain amusement.

Summary: Phule's Company will have you giggling throughout....
Review: This is the beginning of Robert Asprin's funniest series to date. He's managed to create characters that are likeable as well as realistic enough that you can genuinely care about them. The story is set in a technologically advanced society, but it's not so complex as to alienate you. Willard Phule, the main character, is an interesting guy to read about. Being one of the youngest megamillionaires in the galaxy, you wouldn't think he'd join the military. But he does... and not just any branch, but the Space Corps--the laughingstock of the military. The antics will have you hitting the floor on several occasions, I'm telling you. Believe me, by the time you finish the book--which won't be long--you won't rest until you find the sequel. Have at it

Summary: Cheers for Phule's Company!
Review: This is the first book of Phule's Company Series.

The basic story is rather orthodox; a charismatic leader turns a bunch of losers and misfits into a good team. And Phule's tactics is surprisingly straightforward. He wouldn't let himself and others to simply label his crew as "losers and misfits" and he treats them with courtesy and thought. I thought he would use more extraordinary method because of his "rich boy" status and his "foolish" name (he is no fool, indeed).

Despite the straightforwardness, this book is highly amusing; sometimes funny, sometimes heart-warming. I cheer for Phule's Company without reserve. That is partly because the characters with strong personality are vividly described, and I can feel their presence. I like many of them; Willard Phule, Beeker, Brandy, Tusk-anini, Super Gnat, Mother and so on.

Book 2, "Phule's Paradise", describes Phule's Company's full-blown activity in real operation and is much more exciting. I recommend you to regard this book as a "prelude" and read Book 2 continuously.

Summary: What ?!? Court marshaled again !!!
Review: What other military great could ever say that their career started with their arrest? Not many, but that is Willard Phule's claim to fame. That and the fact he is one of the richest men alive. When Phule is given a commission as a form of punishment the megamillionaire has a task about as monumental as staying ahead of the IRS, and with the band of misfits this company holds it will be a task indeed. From crooked supply sergeants to even more crooked politicians, this one will keep you rolling. Come with Robert Asprin and learn just how funny the Space Corps can really be. By the way, the butler will be waiting for you at the door, but you can still call him Beeker

Summary: Wise I could give 6 stars
Review: When I first read this book I was 12. Even then I was impressed with the ability of a man in his early 20s to put together a military unit based on the principles of common sense management. Totally implacable, but still very fun to read.
