Rating: Summary: I loved this book. :) Review: I found Fire Bringer to be an excellent story. I had originally wanted to spread out the reading over a longer period of time, but I enjoyed the book so much I finished it much faster than anticipated. I look forward to reading The Sight, and any future books that David Clement-Davies is planning on writing. :)
Rating: Summary: Liked it Review: I happened to read The Sight just a short while before I began Fire Bringer. I had heard that Fire Bringer was supposedly excellent, better than his second book. I, for one, disagree. Although I thoroughly enjoyed this story, I was slightly disappointed with the fact that they are quite similar. In both stories, it begins with the birth of the main character, Rannoch or Larka. Then they learn that they possess the remaining key to a legend or prophecy, and embark on a journey to discover who they truly are. I do think this is a great story, but I believe it could have been written better. However, I would recommend this book for animal lovers!
Rating: Summary: If you loved Watership Down, skip this one. Review: I admit that I purchased this book because of the seemingly complimentary blurb from "Watership Down" author Richard Adams that is printed on the back cover. After reading part of "Fire Bringer", I have to wonder exactly what he meant when he states "It is one of the best anthropomorhic fantasies know to me."I love WD and have read it many times over the last twenty years. All of the plot elements are well known to me, which is why an annoying stench began to arise from "Fire Bringer" somewhere around chaper 4. "Fire Bringer" starts out well enough, but quickly fails deliver any sort of originality. The story felt so familiar that it left me angry and disappointed. Here we have a young deer named Rannoch who is born into a herd that has been taken over by an evil, power-mad despot. Rannoch and a few other deer are forced to flee because Rannoch bears markings that indicate he is part of a prophecy which will bring about the evil tyrant's downfall. After fleeing, some of the young deer become frightened when they hear wolves howling, so the deer settle down for the night and tell a tale of Starbuck, the great deer hero of legend. A few pages later, Rannoch discovers a bird who has become trapped between two logs and helps free the bird. The grateful bird then helps Rannoch & Co. escape the evil tyrant's lackeys by showing them how to cross water by using a bridge. After crossing the bridge, the deer meet others who are perfectly willing to let Rannoch and his crew join their herd. Rannoch, however, feels that something is not quite right with these deer, and a little investigation reveals that the deer are...surprise!...living in a place called a "park". The deer are fed by humans, humans protect them from pedators, and in return, the deer agree to be hunted by humans. If you've read "Watership Down", you'll understand why I stopped reading "Fire Bringer" at this point. A little originality goes a long way, and there is almost none in "Fire Bringer". "...one of the best anthropomorhpic fantasies known to me." Indeed!
Rating: Summary: an excellent, enjoyable experience! Review: This book was an excellent story! David Clement Davies has a gift and he uses it to extrodinary extent. I loved this book and the characters are lovable and this book gets you so invovled in its plot and storyline. I was cheering on the characters and felt sad for the dead. I love this book and all who read it enjoy it and all who dont are missing out!
Rating: Summary: Fire Bringer Review: A great, touching story about a deer and his friends going through very tough times in their deer herd. They are driven on a hard journey to bring peace and happiness between the herds.
Rating: Summary: A book of Courage, Friends, and Faith Review: Fantastic, one of the best I have ever read, Couldn't put it down, David Clement-Davies really out did himself in this tale of a Prophecy and a young outcast deer. I would reccomend to any one who loved Watership Down.
Rating: Summary: Good stuff... Review: This was a good book with plenty of action in it. A story that looked long, but seemed to fly by because I was stuck with my head in the book. It has the ancient battle of good vs. evil and I would highly recommend anyone who has enjoyed such series as Redwall and others like it.
Rating: Summary: The Sight and Fire Bringer Review: I loved this book!! It was one of the most fabulous books that I've ever read!!!(And is definetly now my favourite!Except Pride & Prejudice and Watership Down comes close joint second!) As soon as I finished the final chapter I realised that tears were running down my face. There were so many beautiful vivid Images..... The first Power of the Sight, I thought was similar for meditating, except that you float upwards instead of floating across the land! Fire Bringer was very very VERY well written as well! Please write more ........ :)
Rating: Summary: Fire Bringer Review: This was an excellent book. I have found that I love all anthropmorphic books. I had been searching for a book that would be equal to the Redwall series, by Brian Jacques. I thought that this quality would be hard to reach, but when I saw this book in the book store and bought it, I was soon proved wrong as I began to read it. This is a lot better than the Redwall series. Fire Bringer is an amazing book that everyone should read even if they like animals only the slightest bit. I greatly anticipate his next novel.
Rating: Summary: The best animal fantasy since Watership Down.... Review: The Herla (deer) live a simple and traditional life in ancient Scotia. That is until Drail, with his evil right hand man Sgorr (who is literarily the brains behind the operation) strip the Herla of all the traditions they have. They get rid of Anlach, the competition that finds out who will be the leader of the Herla each year, and then brutally murder all the Outriders, including captain Brechin. On that very night Brechin's mate, Eloin has a young male fawn named Rannoch. But even Rannoch's first night his life is filled with tragedy when they discover that he was meant to fulfill an ancient prophesy. To prevent him from being murdered, Rannoch much become a changeling. And as he grows he faces challenge after challenge, surviving only with the help of friends. But what will happen when he's forced to make his final stand by himself. Read this book to fund out. Once I saw that the author of the amazing Watership Down had recommended this book, I knew I had to buy it. I've always been a fan of animal fantasy and this one is one of the best I've ever read. Rannoch's story is moving and exciting, there's rarely a dull moment in this book. The characters almost have human-like quality while staying true to the way of the deer. I'm defiantly going to pick up the second novel by this fine author, The Sight. I recommend this book to fans of animal fantasy, or just animal lovers in general.
