Summary: Superb editors aren't necess. good writers. Proof: Ben Bova.
Review: My initial foray into the writing of Ben Bova was the first novel of his Orion series, aptly titled "Orion." Perhaps I expected too much, yet in the end I still see this book and the entire Orion series in an ironic and frustrating light. Primarily, it is ironic that one of the best science fiction editors of the past few decades could get such a terribly edited book published. This is painfully apparent in the history, sociology, and geology content of the book. Was Mr. Bova unable to get a hold of the latest findings in these disciplines? It pains me to think that his it was precisely his literary clout which gave him the opportunity to put something of such low quality out. The bottom line: Outdated, Over-simplified, and at times absolutely incorrect. A story based on actual historical situations falls apart quickly when mistakes like these are made. It is of course made exponentially more ironic when these mistakes are made by an influential literary figure who has for so long preached on the prevalence of "bad" science in science fiction. Lastly, it is outright bewildering that he was allowed to publish more than one book on the premise first introduced in this novel. I would recommend these books for young readers in a second for all the books qualities except that the presentation of incorrect historical facts makes it really suitable for no one.

Summary: A very interesting, fun novel
Review: Orion is a very interesting fun novel. After a present day incident where Orion (the Hunter) preserves the invention of fusion power, he travels back through time to critical junctures in the development of mankind to foil the plans of Ahriman, who is bent on destroying the human race. Orion seems to have no unearthly powers (he is sent back in time by God or his equivalent), and Ahriman seems to be able to control time and space, but Orion manages to perserver. Between the sequences where Orion travels backwards through time Bova also sheds some light on the god who is managing this process. I actually found that substoryline to be the most compelling part of the story after a while. It appears that this god is convinced the universe will be destroyed should Ahriman succeed and thus he needs Orion to stop him. Sounds kind of trite I know, but the historical and mystery aspects of the novel were very well done. Orion is a real page turner (turns out it is a series also).

Summary: The Continuum Has Been Ripped : Orion
Review: Orion, a well named science fiction novel by Ben Bova. Essentially this novel is the unusually written story of a man forced to become a soldier for the universe. A certain "evil entity" has threatened to destroy all of mankind by destroying each "time nexus," and Orion is then destined to fight this "evil entity." Ben Bova does an excellent job of taking a stereotypical story line and making it into a well-written story.
Even if the actual writing is admirable, the context of the writing is a bit of a disappointment. Possibly it was because of the fact that most of his historical information is fantasy and chimerical. The way all the characters are first introduced, then compared to the rest of the novel, makes no sense. Also the sickeningly asinine "love scenes" between Orion and Anya were unnecessary and vapid. The rushed ending was expected yet unique in the way it was executed.
Orion is innately a meritorious novel; it is more of a book of leisure than a deep thought provoking text. I recommend the novel to young readers who desire and crave universal concepts of a simpler nature.

Summary: Messing with minds and playing with power. -Ohrmazd
Review: Orion, created creature of the 'gods.' Created to do battle with Ahriman, the creature sworn to eliminate the human race for an ancient wrong. One travels forward, the other backward, and the continuum forever hangs in the balance of the decisions of four beings throughout it's flow. The other two? Creators of course.

A mystery and a puzzle. If you like to warp your brain on time travel and human reasoning, this one is a sure bet. If you just like a good story, toss this one in your cart, you won't be dissapointed

Summary: Pure excellence
Review: Simply put, this is a powerful book. While the story may be somewhat limited, it still manages to grab you and draw you in.

Orion is a man of pure heart and simple motive-- he only wants to be with his true love. But the Creator Ormazd refuses his wishes. Orion's final decision reflects his true being; to do the right thing, and be damned with the consequences. This easily ranks as one of my five favorite books.

Summary: An oldy but a goody...
Review: This book is pretty good, interesting plots, and I like the clean way he smoothed it all together considering the way the the two characters progressed in opposite directions but ended up in the same state as the other started :). Predictable ending I thought

Summary: Wow
Review: Wow. Prior to reading ORION, I was never a big fan with science fiction. Now, after reading it, I find my mind enthralled with the different aspects of sci-fi.
