Summary: Dungeons and Dragons Does Greece
Review: Any historical book that includes a bibliography in the back is begging to be taken seriously. But when it's as badly researched as this one, it's all a bit laughable. The plot verges on the absurd, the magic bears no resemblance to Greek myth or notions of magic, and the characterizations are just plain silly. Mr. Gemmell should stick to straight fantasy since he does historical fantasy so very badly--especially in contrast to Judith Tarr's LORD OF THE TWO LANDS (also on Alexander) and released around the same time--which is a very *good* historical treatment.

Summary: LION OF MACEDON
Review: DAVID GEMMELL HAS REACHED BACK IN TO THE BLACK HISTORY OF THE GREEK AND PERSIAN EMPIRE TO WEAVE A TALE OF AN UNKNOWN WARRIOR. ALTHOUGH THE CHARACTERS IN THE BOOK MAY HAVE EXISTED, ALL THAT IS KNOWN OF PARMENION REALLY IS THAT HE WAS ONE OF ALEXANDER AND PHILLIP II GENERALS. WITH VERY LITTLE TO GO ON, GEMMELL HAS PRODUCED AN ENTERTAINING AND INTERSTING STORY BASED ON CHARACTERS THAT ALTHOUGH ARE WELL KNOWN IN GENERAL, HAVE VERY LITTLE HISTORICAL FACT CONNECTED TO THEM.

Summary: A wonderful book!
Review: David Gemmell is a wonderful writer, and the first in his two-parter set in Ancient Macedonia is one great read. He has an amazing grasp of the ancient world and has created some memorable characters. Bravo

Summary: Best heroic fantasy book ever published
Review: David Gemmell is THE best writer of heroic fantasy books I have ever come across. Binding history with myth you are transported to a time of heroism and intrigue which you will not want to leave. BUY THIS BOOK - IN FACT BUY ALL THE GEMMELL BOOKS BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL EXCELLENT!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A portal to another time.
Review: David Gemmell really brings the best in himself with this book. I'm from Greece and when I first read the title I feared that it would be just another mindless twist of history. Gemmell not only proves me wrong but also manages to bind history with myth, avoiding simple minded views about the origin of the Greeks and of northern Greece. I guess even my ancestors would enjoy it.

Summary: Lion of Macedon was one of the best books I've read
Review: I am a 15-year-old freshmen in high school, and an avid sci-fi and fantasy reader. I have read a myriad of classic science fiction and fantasy, Lord of the Rings for example, and this book ranks right up there with these classics. I went through this book in about 10 hours... straight. I am about to order the second of this series, the book intrigued me so much. I recomend this book to any fantasy, sci-fi readers, or any people who love ancient greece, I know I fall into all these catagories, and I loved it. Happy Reading!

Summary: A Sure Success
Review: Lion of Macedon by David Gemmell is a great book. It leads you into the story and before you know it you have read far past your bed time. You find yourself wishing to be part of the story so that you can help Parmenion, the Lion of Macedon(hence the title). Highly recommended.

Summary: H TAN H EÐI TAÃ" ( With it or on it)
Review: Maybe my title seems a little bit Greek to all of you but if you have studied ancient Greek as I did you wouldn't be so surprised ( In ancient Sparta the mothers when they were talking to their sons just before they left for war they were giving them their shield and they were saying to their sons the exact phrase that I used as my title which meant that they would prefer to see their sons dead than alive and beaten). The book is one of the best I' ve read for long time. The interesting notion that Parmenion was half Spartan and half Macedon is one of the Gemmell's innovations. I especially liked the mixing of the classic Greece with fantasy and of course I liked the idea of the Dark Childs identity... I won't say more because I will reveal the hole plot of the book and spoil all the fun.
