Summary: Cute enough
Review: "Rescue Ferrets at Sea" is a little hard to classify, an anthropomorphic fantasy that, though not classified as children's lit, seems to be about that level. It's a nice little story with an endearingly childlike tone that may appeal to adults as well.

For years, Bethany Ferret has wanted to be a Rescue Ferret, one of the Coast-Guard-like ferrets that patrols the ocean in search of any animals in distress. She rises to captain and commands the newly-repaired J-boat Resolute. As they set out, an observer temporarily joins the crew: a rock star named Chloe, part of a famous ferret band. Fortunately for Bethany, Clo is a humble, down-to-earth person, and the two become friends.

But a ship carrying rats, mice, and some important enviromental information is going down out in a vicious storm. The Resolute must try to get to the ship and save the inhabitants without sinking themselves.

Somehow I didn't enjoy this story as much as I felt I should. Perhaps it is because the leads are Chloe and Bethany, a pair of rather personality-less ferrets in high places, rather than the down-and-dirty ferrets who would be working under the captain. It's hard to get as much of a feel for the "Rescue Ferrets" through a ditzy rock star. The plotline is somewhat rushed, and very few people are developed sufficiently; and there is the occasional lapse into cheesiness, such as the "near-death experience."

However, it has a good base for the proposed series of "Ferret" adventures, and the idea of a Coast Guard of ferrets is cute. His descriptions of the Ferrets in the storm is exceptional, as is the descriptions of Bethany's crew and how they repaired the Resolute.

If a reader is eagerly awaiting the next Redwall tale, they may enjoy "Rescue Ferrets" and its sequel.

Summary: Who wrote this book again?
Review: After reading this book, you will wonder if there is another writer out there publishing books under the same name as the author who brought us "Illusions" and "Jonathan Livingston Seagull." You might do well to check this first book out of your local library before you spend money to buy the entire series - it is undoubtedly not what you expect.

Summary: La mezcla perfecta

Summary: ADORABLE and please ignore the idiotic review below this one
Review: Ferret lovers - any animal lover - will adore this book. Bach, being a ferret owner, captures ferrets in all their wonderful glory and personifies them as rescuers of shipwrecked animals.

The Coast Guard rescues humans - but what about any animals on board? Why the Rescue Ferrets, of course! It's a wonderful tale that will delight both young and old. I have all three books in the "Ferret Chronicles" and can't wait till he writes the next one.

Very well written, the story moves right along and Bach's attention to detail makes you feel like you're right there in the action. Great job, Mr. Bach :)

PS: ferrets are not vicious and my five have never bitten anyone. However, if the idiot in the prior review ever met mine I wouldn't stop them heh heh

Summary: Strange.... but then this is a Richard Bach book...
Review: I understand that this is the 1st of many in a new series by Richard Bach. I have read all his previous books and this new one is very different. Best I can say is that the 'jury is out' on this one and I will reserve judgement until seeing other in the series. It is a short book, just a couple of hours for an average reader. Nice story, lots of 'feel good' value. Kids will love this new series.

I fear that readers of 'traditional' Bach may be dissapointed by this one.

Summary: Rescue Ferrets at Sea
Review: If you are lost at sea, who you gonna call? Rescue Ferrets at Sea
that's who! A great fun book, showing that Ferrets and man can co-exist and rescue all who are in danger. The Ferrets are brave and dedicated to their jobs, an excellent example is set for all.
