Summary: Must Read
Review: Left Behind is an excellent book if you don't read to much into it. Iloaned out this book, (I thought it was a great read, when viewed onlyas a story) and the person I loaned it to, found so many people disturbed by the book or looked to much at it as a re-write of Revelation, they decided not read it. That really was to bad. This is not the bible. It was the author's way of interpeting how they thought the rapture might happen, using a specific character for you to relate to. For those of you who found it shallow or elementary, to bad for you. It was a great story. Remember no one can change your religious beliefs people, unless you allow them to.

Summary: Frightening tactics?
Review: What are you afraid of? Monsters under your bed? This series could be better, and it could be immeasurably worse. There are more Bible believing Christians in America than in any country in the world. Many are re-discovering that faith because of these two authors.

God will sort things out. This is an imperfect but sincere attempt to preview how that may play out by telling a story in serial novel format. Terrifying! Not. More uplifting I'd say. We are living in a descending cultural and spiritual cesspool and yet, many of us view the future with hope. These books flesh out that hope.

If you really want a "no way out" scenario that is as chilling as Truman Capote's landmark film "in Cold Blood" try reading "Transfer-the end of the beginning" by Jerry Furland. Christians will see the underlying themes and rejoice. Those who lack faith in anything but their own contrivances will find "Transfer" far more menacing. Find out for yourself. If the Left Behind series fails to wake you up, Furland has all the "No Doze" you will ever need.

Summary: Shameless and dishonest
Review: I found this book on an amazon science fiction list of bestbook of the century. I am amazed that anyone would think to put itthere not because it is not fiction, but because it is very bad science fiction. It is intellectually dishonest, shamelessly proselytizing and should be advertised as such and not marketed as anything else. I was even more disgusted that I wasted my money on it because I read it sandwiched between two other excellent sci fi books (Camp Concentration and Ubik) both of which also deal with the question of the existence of god, etc. The writing is trite, the characters irritatingly shallow and one is left with a profound feeling that being "Left Behind" was hardly a fate worse than death if the alternative was to hang out for all eternity with the even more pious "disappeared".

My first true disappointment from an amazon list. I have given it one star only because there is no option in the review fields for giving it none.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: A friend of mine loaned this book to me, raving about the story. The packaging on the book is well done and makes it appear as if it's much bigger than it truly is. Upon reading though, I found the book to lack the depth that I presumed was there. The characters are very flat, the writing is juvenile at times, but the plot kept me going.

There is so much potential in the story here, but I don't feel the writers have taken the time with their work to polish it and add depth to their work. It looks as if they're kicking two of these books out per year, which leads me to believe they're more interested in churning them out rather than creating a quality piece of fiction.

Still, I keep reading them. The plot is just enough to keep me moving forward. I do see the agenda in these books, and as a Catholic, I feel somewhat offended by this. I feel like they've done a lot of stereotyping in the series.

Summary: An interesting read
Review: Left Behind is a very different book. It seems the author was unsure of his target audience. His writing style is tailored to a juvinile reader, but the subject matter he dealt with was definately on a more mature level. The plot is very captivating, and although the writing style was very annoying, the book was a thought-provoker. I honestly do not know if I can endure another 450 pages of this author's style of writing, but I am curious on how the plot progresses in the next book of this series. This is not a book I would purchase, but rather borrow the series from a local library.

Summary: A fictional truth
Review: Though this book is fictional, the general context of the book, I beleive, is taken from the bible. I believe that the rapture will happen. Perhaps not exactly as they portray it in this book but close enough. God does not tell us how exactly we will go but he does promise that Jesus is coming back for his people. This book is worth reading! But don't rely on it for truth.

Summary: One word. Awesome.
Review: Starting with Left Behind you are thrust into the cockpit with Rayford Steele. You meet one of his passengers, Buck Williams. A flight attendent named Hattie Durham. As time goes on you get to meet and know other interesting characters. The story covers a two week period of time. For literary fanatics it falls short of giving them the detail they desire. For most of us who read this for pleasure, nothing will pass the time faster.

I have noticed several people here decry the book because it does not line up with what they think will happen. Does the book enhance your relationship with God? That is the question which counts.

It has drawn me into a closer relationship with Christ. It is not overwhelmingly theological at all. I do not agree with everything the authors have written in Left Behind but I realize it is only my personal opinion. The book is a well written book of fiction. The characters are human. We are able to get to know them and come to love them. We can appreciate where they come from, what their backgrounds are, why they think the way they do.

With over 10 million books sold in the series, a kids series being written, dramatic audio editions out, and a movie being released in December this year, the Left Behind series has made a tremendous impact on people's lives. Most people I know can't wait to read the next book after they have read the first one. The characters get better with each book. This book which began it all truly is awesome. Thank you to Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye for writing this.

Summary: thoughts of left behind
Review: never before have I been so into a book. I have read the first three of the series and am starting on the fourth. I haven't been able to put them down. I find myself reading all day and into the night. Excellent, excellent books!

Summary: Truly frightening tactics here.
Review: Where does one begin? I find it truly frightening that so many people treat this series of books as gospel when it is FICTION. In an age of wars and civil strife based on intolerance, these authors have much to answer for in their expression of righteous intolerance for other faiths. The world does not need more poison in any form. People, if you seek true spiritual connection, go to the original texts and meditate on them and not to authors who use such questionable fear tactics to convert people back into their disturbingly narrow view of the Divine. Remember this series is fiction with an AGENDA and should be approached with healthy skepticism.

Summary: A little shallow but intriguing
Review: This pilot experiences the "Rapture" while flying his 747 and after being forced to return to Chicago he must face his worst fears. His saintly wife and son have been taken and he and his analytical/sceptical daughter have been left behind. While I enjoyed the speculative nature of the story and even go so far as to compare it to C.S. Lewis's "The Great Divorce", it's characters lack depth and are to predictable. I can see this playing to the fears/arogance of Fundamentalist but not to those who belive that Christ knows where we live. I do however intend to read and encourage others to read the series because it does remain faithful to the Bible and that can never be wrong. I just wish we had gotten to know the "Saints" who were taken.
