Summary: Oh, Puhleease
Review: I listened to this book on tape, having no idea what it was about when I downloaded it on to my MP3 player -- just something about the last people left on earth.

And quickly, I was hooked! People *disappearing* from a jet flying peacefully across the Atlantic?

But instead of some amazing, fascinating science fiction story unfolding (Michael Crichton's Time Line isn't half bad to listen to), it turns out the answer to the puzzle is . . . God willed it . . . and all the good people went to heaven but the bad people -- who seem perfectly good in most cases, except that one who had lust in his heart for a flight attendant -- were left behind. And wait -- I'm wrong! They *weren't* bad people, they just weren't *born again!*

This is doubtless a very fine book for people who are born again, and eager to be reaffirmed in their faith that they are the chosen people, destined for an eternity of bliss.

For evertone else: save your time.

Summary: Excellent Book
Review: I think this book was great. But, the end was "blah". But, I really do recommend this book. If you're into this kinda stuff, and even if your not, it's just a really great book.

Summary: Could NOT Make Myself Finish This Book...
Review: I even took it with me to my long appointments: doctors, getting a perm, getting the car repaired. Long hours in waiting rooms with nothing to do but stare at the clock and hope, or read this book which I had long since lost interest in, and I could NOT read the book. It was so boring I couldn't do it. I was interested in it for about the first one hundred pages and after that, there was no movement whatsoever in the plot.

The author focused on two families, the airline pilot's and the single journalist. He could have easily saved the book by making a wider sweep, concentrating more on the havoc going on around the world, perhaps showing us multiple families from several countries. What made his narrow focus (on two exceptionally UNinteresting families) even worse was that, with the journalist's story, the author bombarded us with political workings, and plenty of them! The coverage given Nicolae's rise to power in the movie was much better handled, I thought. Please, spare us the mundane details!

Don't take this bad review as a sign that I'm unhappy with the subject matter. I'm not; I wanted to read about the Coming Again. Even after I gave up on the book, I watched the movie, and enjoyed it. I gave this book so many second chances, but it is simply BADLY WRITTEN. The author, in my opinion, could have fit the entire series into one book instead of dragging us along through hundreds of pages of stalling. One day after sitting for hours at the Ford dealership and not even making it through a single page, I threw the book away. Just tossed it into the trash unceremoniously. I never throw books away; I'm always thinking that someone else might read them. But this one, I tossed. And, I'm not in the least bit ashamed to admit it.

Summary: Captivating
Review: From the opening paragraph to the end it will keep your attention. I've listened 3 times now. Also, very accurate to Biblical writings. I recommend the entire series.

Summary: LEFT BEHIND and THE CHRIST CLONE TRILOGY
Review: I've been a fan of the LEFT BEHIND series almost since the beginning. Then I read a review that said the CHRIST CLONE TRILOGY by James BeauSeigneur is even better, so between LEFT BEHIND books I tried it. The review was more critical of Left Behind than I would agree with, but it was 100% right about the CHRIST CLONE. Man, that's a series you can sink your teeth into. It moves fast, sticks to scripture, and explains prophecy in a much more believable way than any of the end times books I've read, including LEFT BEHIND.

The strangest thing is that BeauSeigneur does such a good job of presenting the antichrist that you actually find yourself pulling for him. It's weird, but exactly as Matthew 24:24 says it will be. In LEFT BEHIND you know that Nicolae is the Antichrist right from the beginning (though the characters seem a little thick-headed in not being able to see what's so obvious to the reader) and there's no way in the world I would ever follow ol' Nick. If I weren't a Christian, though, I'm sure I would follow BeauSeigneur's Antichrist. He's that good, I mean bad . . . oh you know what I mean.

One other big difference is that LEFT BEHIND is obviously written for a Christian or near-Christian audience; the preaching is pretty thick and I think turns off many nonChristian readers. (I've tried to get nonChristians to read LEFT BEHIND and none have read past the first book.) THE CHRIST CLONE TRILOGY is written for a secular audience (it even has occasional harsh language) but when the truth is revealed (book 3 of the series) the Christian world view and the presentation of the Gospel is unmistakable. I recommend you check it out.

Summary: Interesting novel, but it's lacking in places
Review: This book has it's good points, and it's bad points. I'm going to start off by making a disclaimer to those who read this review and who are thinking of reading these books. These books DO NOT represent all of Christianity. Lahaye and Jenkins are Fundamentalists and as such, their theology differs (in some cases to extremes) from a lot of the more tradition Christian faiths (i.e.: Catholicism, Orthodoxism, Anglicanism and Lutheranism). These books are fiction, and should remain fiction, I would not recommend them as witnessing or apologetic tools. Please, do not use them to glean an understanding of the theology of Christianity. With that said, I thought this book (along with the second one in this series) were very good. The action was fast paced, the character development is done extremely well. LaHaye and Jenkins do a good job of making these characters "human", with their personal flaws and faults. Reading about the trials and tribulations of the main characters certainly allows the reader to relate to the situations, which really helps these books move along. It also allows the reader to become attached to the characters, and whenever a book evokes emotions, it's going to be a very good read. I also think that the authors do a good job of leading the reader along the plot. Things are revealed slowly, but not so slow that the books drag. As a matter of fact, the first two books go along quite quickly. The problems begin with the third book of the series (the series was supposed to be a Trilogy but then was spaced out to cover an unknown number of books), and which is why I only have given it three stars (call it a hind-sight ranking - and it's because the series begins to become seriously lacking in the third and subsequent books). However, if you don't mind the books "slowing down", I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these books, however I think that there are other "Apocalyptic" literature books that are less expensive (i.e.: not an indeterminate number of novels) and written with a better grasp of theology and are a more accurate representation of Christianity (for example, the book Father Elijah by Michael O'Brien - Ignatius Press).

Summary: Extremely Interesting!
Review: This book really pulls you in. The only setback is that the quality of the writing is not that great. But the plot and the subject makes up for that. I recommend it for all people of all ages. I am in highschool and I found that it was not too hard to follow. If you don't like reading, definitely watch the movie. It's even better than the book!!!

Summary: Absurd
Review: Absurd, completely absurd. The only reason I didn't give this book just one star is because of the comic relief it provided me. Yes, I read past the first ten pages and I laughed out loud while doing so.

Okay, picture this: The second coming has occured, planes have come crashing out of the sky, cars have crashed, the airports are in total chaos. Our pilot hero wants a friend paged at the airport but is told that nobody is being paged at the moment. Gathering up all his manly authority, he demands that they page his friend because it is an emergency as if being in the middle of the second coming is not emergency enough. I nearly split my sides laughing from that scene. Oh yes, paging his friend was MUCH more of an emergency than dealing with planes dropping out of the sky.

Then, our pilot needs to get from the airport to the suburbs and he just happens to hear that a helicopter is leaving that will take only pilots to the suburbs. Isn't THAT convenient?

And, about that character of Hattie...I cannot remember the last time I was so offended by the way a character was written. I am afraid that the authors spoke volumes of how they feel about women with that portrayal--we are simplistic little twits who could not tie our shoelaces without the guidance of a big strong man. Too bad this book did not come with a barf bag because I could have used it.

Summary: Great book.
Review: This is a novel with a most important message. One day this event will happen. This book is entertaining and is not meant to be like Hamlet. If you want to read books that win literary awards go buy them. If you want books that are fun and spiritual. Read all of the Left Behind books and a new novel called Apocalypse South on Amazon.

Summary: Read this book, it may change you...
Review: Certinally not all christian faiths believe that the end will be exactly as described in Revelation. But there is a strong message here, and it applies whether the End comes in your lifetime or your lifetime ends before the End. It's not Stienbeck or Hemmingway (and it's poor science fiction) but it is entertaining and certinally gets exciting. And unless you're really into shortcuts, skip the video. TV movie quality and too much cut out to make an impact.
