Rating: Summary: Could be a bit more complex and not so cliche Review: I am a major science fiction reader and picked up this book thinking that was what it was. I loved most of the first book but felt the rest of the series took a downswing. The apocolypse is such a rich topic and these book could have been fantastic. The authors ignored a lot of the details, kept the cast too small, and simplified the relationships too much. I was hoping this was coming from me being a strayed Catholic and not a born-again Christian but the more I read the more I was disappointed. Being a sci-fi fan and having read lots of end-of-the-earth aliens-take-over-and mankind-fights back fiction it could have been much better. I felt the authors "dumbed" down the characters in order to promote morality or make the plot conform. The simplification of the taking over of the world government was also annoying. This was all unnecessary and would have made a much better and frightning book if they hadn't. I will finish the series but will always have in my mind how it could have been. This is the first book series that I wanted to research and rewrite myself.
Rating: Summary: Insulting Christian Propaganda Review: This book reminds me of a horrible TV movie. The characters are hokey, and completely unbelievable. The way the characters act in the situations provided are ludicrous. I can't believe there was so much praise for such a bad novel. If you don't believe in Jesus Christ, you will also be incredibly insulted.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Powerful! Emotional! Review: I could not tear myself away from this book once I began to read it. I have been having dreams about the book. I can't explain how this book tugged and tugged at my heart. I have been telling everyone about it.
Rating: Summary: Good Concept, Bad writing Review: I am a Christian and would like to promote books like this. However, to be honest, I would have to concede that the writing is mediocre at best. The characters are shallow and rarified. Their are few facets to them and they are unrealistic. For example, this whole story involves people who are left behind after the rapture in a 'godless' world, yet no one ever utters a word of profanity. Everyone behaves in a "Leave it to Beaver" manner and the bad guys say words like "heck" and "darn". The two main characters, Rayford and Buck, are exactly the same--BORING. Also, the plot is awfully thin and shallow. The characters rarely "do" anything but sit around and be contemplative. Overall, I feel the book series is a lot of slick packaging and marketing with little substance.
Rating: Summary: Kept me on the edge of my seat. Review: I read Left Behind in two days, staying up past 2 a.m.(and not getting any housework done.) I have already read the books 2-5 and can hardly wait to get book 6. (coming out sometime in summer 1999.) Anyone reading these books that is not already a Christian, will be hard pressed not to give their heart to the Lord.
Rating: Summary: Catchy, but lacks depth. Review: This is definately an intriguing book, and it goes fast. I think the subject could be fleshed out a little more and the characters seem to be a bit unbelievable. Other than that, I enjoyed the book. As a Christian I appreciated the message as well. I would prefer a little more action and a little less "soap opera".
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down! Review: I loved this book- I stayed up till 3 a.m.reading it, but it was worth it
Rating: Summary: Absolutely great! Couldn't put it down! Review: This book was absolutely great. I couldn't even put it down when I was reading it. I loved everything about it.
Rating: Summary: Amazing! I couldn't put it down. Review: I bought Left Behind because I had several friends tell me about it. They all raved about the book and gave me a brief rundown of it. Needless to say, my curiosity got the better of me. I went and bought the book. I couldn't put it down. I read the book in three days. (That's no small feat for someone who is taking 17 credit hours of college courses and also works 30 hours a week.) I would strongly recomend everyone to read this series. It will absoloutly blow your mind. I can't wait to get the next book in the series.
Rating: Summary: One last Chance Review: This should truely be the name of this book. There are some here who will criticize this book as being a sadistic Christian scare tactic. In reality, the book's message resounds the fact that Belief in Christ as your savior is the only way to eternal life with God. The great tribulation period following the rapture (taking up to him) of God's people from the Earth is ONE LAST CHANCE for those "Left Behind" to wake up and smell the coffee before the final judgement comes. That is how big God's love is. This is a spectacular depiction of what the end times may be like for those who find themselves "Left Behind". I recommend it.
