Summary: Left Behind will take your imagination away
Review: I am never that much of a reader. I have to admit that I picked up the book just for a school project for my English class. Oh great, another book to read. I open up the page and it is actually so hard to put down. I mean that has never happened to me before. And since i have heard of when Jesus and God will return for his people, the book makes the reality of what will happen come to such reality. If you are a christian and if you are not, you should still read this book because it is very real and very well created. Wonderful work by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins.

Summary: A non-fiction
Review: The story starts with the rapture of church by God. Millions of people disappeared in a moment with their belonging left behind. And the story fulfils exactly the prophecies in the book of revelation of Holy Bible afterward.

I'd read loads of excellent articles, on both pro and con side, about Christianity. I'd reached book 4 of this series. The reading experience throughout this 4 volumes brings me a feeling of reading sort of comprehensive bible stories, or a extension of bible words. For the sake of evanglism the novel do achieve it in a certain extent, especially in the part describing the praying experience of the member of the tribulation force. Their spiritual interaction with God is truly sentimental, touchy and even more important, very real. Unfortunately it spans only a couple of pages.

Indeed it is less a novel, in terms of character development, plot and etc. I am pretty disappointed by the lack of drilling into the casual relationship of apocalytic events. After all, the story span more than 10 volumes. Time and space are not concerns. In the novels they just happened because and only because it has to fulfil the prophecy. And I found little inspiration in this novel. Neither learned a lesson.

If you are a Christian, it won't bring you much new stuff. If you aren't a Christian, you may not be moved by the stuff in this novel.

Review: A while back, I wanted to see what all the fuss what about the "Left Behind" series of books. So, I picked up the first few books and read through them in about a week. I soon realized this purely speculative rendition of the end times was mildly entertaining, but that was about it. I think this book, and the following editions amount to interesting books about the same level of writing as stories about gunfighters in the old west. The very fact that Lahaye is profiting off his version of the book of Revelation is slightly alarming, but this is the USA, and he can do, as he pleases.

With all that said, this book was mildly entertaining, but purely speculative in nature. It seems every 100 years someone figures out this is going to be the end of time, and they can prove it.

I wish Tim Lahaye would get back to teaching people how to study the bible, and less about worrying about the end of time. C-

Summary: Tami's Review
Review: Setting: Mount Prospect, Illinois at the time of the first coming of Jesus Christ, UN in New York
Characters: Rayford Steele, the airplane pilot and Chloe, his daughter; Hattie Durham, the stewardess; Cameron Williams, (known as Buck) the journalist, Bruce Barnes, a left behind pastor of the Church of New Hope, Nicolae Carpathia, shown to be the antichrist
Summary- Christ comes back and takes those who have accepted Him as Savior. All others are left behind, leaving only their clothing, jewelry, and glasses. The resulting chaos of the accidents and sense of loss has Rayford, Chloe, Buck and Bruce looking for the answers. Bruce finds a video left behind from the senior pastor explaining the disappearances which was made before it happened. Rayford and Chloe are left a legacy from their wife and mother who tried to tell them before it happened. They both study the Bible to come up with their own answers. Buck, a journalist, discounts the alien invasion theory put out by the networks and seeks the real reason. They all end up at the New Hope Church where they see the video left by the previous pastor. They are told what happened and given the hope and chance to accept Christ now. Hattie, rejected from the beginnings of a romance with Rayford finds employment with Nicolae Carpathia whose strange powers cover up what really happens in his move for power. These events try to follow the prophecies found in the book of Revelation in the Bible.
Author Evaluation- It is very suspenseful with excellent character development. It is well written although sometimes preachy.

Summary: The promising genessis of an Epic
Review: Some books are read just for entertainment. For some others, the pleasure of reading can be combined with education.

I will leave the religion bias aside...I will leave that bias entirely out.

The book is extremely well-researched, written by a scholar who can probably recite it backwards. It makes the references pertinent without making the text too heavy. It makes the learning smooth. It also makes the story interesting because you keep coming back for more.

Who is that antechrist, what does he want...you get dragged into the story and you stay hooked until the end, while learning a lot about the bible book of Revelations.

It could have been become a classic...if the writer skills would have been at par with the scholar author. The characters are not believable, to the limit of cheesy, have no depth. They are there solely to guide you from scene to scene.

All in all, a good book that could have been great.

Summary: Left Behind
Review: Left Behind was a wonderful book that really makes you think about your own life. How good your life is and everything in it or how bad everything is turning out to be. The stories about people losing all their family members and being lost in the world makes you realize how lucky you are to live in a house with a loving family. To others it may be a reminder of the hardships they face day to day. Looking at the world through Rayford and Buck's eyes shows the differences between people having to do with their family backgrounds. Rayford had a wonderful wife and two kids that he loved dearly so it was crushing to know they were gone and why they were not with him. Buck who doesn't have a homey background is confused and mixed up in the whole situation of the disappearances of people with no one to turn to. The stories in the book describing the end of the world made me think about my life. The wrong things I do everyday that I know I should not. The things I wish were going the way I want them to but I know they are not because of my own doings. The suspense in the story makes you want to prevent putting yourself in those situations. You want to change the way you do certain things to bring peace among everyone. The pain and hurt among Rayford and Buck help you realize your role in life and relate to them by remembering pain and hurt you have gone through. I feel that this book was very good because it makes you think which many books do not.

Summary: If even one person gets closer to Jesus because of this...
Review: ...it is a success! Is it fiction? Yes. Is it based on the Bible? Yes. Is it inspirational? You bet! And I can tell you, as a practicing Catholic, that this series has helped me refine my faith and get back to basics - as in the Bible. I also have always wanted to understand Revelations better, and these books are helping me do so. Is it theologically sound? I don't know, but I have never heard or read anyone who truly understands all of Revelations. Read them, learn from them and read your Bible!

Summary: The Series Begins...
Review: In a single moment, hundreds of millions of people all over the world suddenly disappear. Chaos reigns over most of the world. Planes that no longer have pilots come crashing down. Cars that no longer have drivers crash into each other. Mother's in the process of giving birth are suddenly barren. Captin Rayford Steele, piloting a trans-atlantic flight when the vanishings occur, immediately knows what has happened. His wife talked about it all the time, but he didn't listen. He saw no reason to listen. Now he is going to wish he had.

"Left Behind" is an extremely engaging work of fiction that is based on the Bible, especially the "Book of Revelations." From the moment you start reading, you won't want to put it down. Each chapter makes you hungry to read more. As much as you might want to keep your distance, you will find yourself attached to all the characters. You will keep coming back to read more of the book because you want to know what happens to them.

This is the first book in what has become one of the most popular book series ever. While many non-Christians may take offense to some of the portrayals in the book, many others will find this book to be captivating and engaging.

If you are looking for a book to help you unwind, relax, and take your mind off other things, this is a great book for you.

Summary: A Good Read?
Review: Like most Science Fiction, enjoyment of this "Christian Sci-Fi" novel depends on your willing suspension of disbelief. In this case the whole plot hangs on a 19th Century fundamentalist interpretation of the Book of Revelation, a late and rather dubious addition to the New Testament. Remember that the New Testament, like the Old, was assembled by a committee of "experts" long after the fact. The rest of the New Testament is biographies of Jesus and rather streightforward accounts of the travels and writings of His immediate followers in the establishment of Christianity. Revelation is an Apocolypse, a fantasy of Devine retribution against the Roman persecutors of the early Christians
The writing in Left Behind starts out fairly good and exciting with the immediate aftermath of the "Rapture" but then bogs down with the seemingly endless talk and soul-searching of the four major characters. There are two authors; one can only assume that one wrote the "thriller" parts and the other fellow the preachy parts. Left Behind picks up again a bit with the introduction of the Antichrist character, Nicolae Carpathia (but please, an evil being actually named "Nick"!)and his rather too easy takeover of the UN.
Overall, except for the too long theological passages, it is an OK Sci-Fi thriller and will probably make a good movie but great literature it is not. And it is based on the fundamentalist premise that people need to be scared into belief...

Summary: An Eye-Opening Page Turner
Review: I started this book as a Christian who had little knowledge of the Rapture. I knew some were pre-trib, some were post-trib, some didn't know--I really didn't care. Now I want to know, I want to learn much more about it. This book (a pre-trib account) certainly got my attention.

I was shocked when I saw some of the negative reviews for this book. There can only be a few reasons: 1) Non-Christians who don't believe, 2) Christians who are adamantly post-trib, or 3) Christians who think they know more than the authors.

If you are any of the above, then you won't like what the book has to say. This book is for people who want to learn more. It's not meant to be the next ground-breaking novel in literature (although I must say I was captivated). It's a new spin on an old story. Read your Bible.
