Summary: Ehoes of a talented writer!
Review: I have not read a Gemmell novel in years. I started with Legend when it first came out and truly liked it alot.
So, of course I would grab the next few books that I could find. But surprisingly to me, I could not get into any of them, so I gave up thinking Legend was a fluke.

But I still followed and looked at each book that came out successively, but without trying them. Now, years later, I decided to try out one of his singular, non-series type books.

And was pleasantly surprised. I pretty much instantly got into Echoes without growing bored. Quite the contrary! Though some of the battles were somewhat boring and stiff, the characters and overall originality of the storyline kept me hooked.

Now, I'm over halfway thru with the 1st Rigante novel, and already I think it even far superior than Echoes of a Great Song. I suppose I'm a fan once agiain...for now.

Summary: Classic read from classic author
Review: I've been a Gemmell fan for some time now, and picked up Echoes because I like his style. I'll confess I was unsure of the enjoyment I'd get out of it because from the description it sounds different to what I'm used to. But... what a great read! Gemmell has lost none of his insight, style, or excellent storytelling skills. There's even a few laughs (I especially liked the last chapter!) I recommend this book highly. Buy it.

Summary: Gods For a Millennium, Legends Forever
Review: Many many years ago and in a land far, far away the Avatar were revered and feared as befits gods. Then the worlds were hurled together and two moons appeared on the tumultous horizon. It was a beginning. It was an end.
As the races meet, the result is inevitable. Or is it? For even in fantasy war is always no less and no more than hatred.
The Avatar are anti-heroes and now but a memory strewn to the sands of time. Yet echoes of their magic shall forever shimmer with man.
Here is that echo written in the form of a parable.

Summary: Fantastic work!
Review: This book is based on the bestselling, Fingerprints Of The Gods by Graham Hancock. The book is a magical piece of work with a close relationship with the characters. The effect on me was amazing. It has changed the way I think forever. The author of this book is top class! Other titles by Gemmell that had the same effect on me are: Winter Warriors, Legend, Iron Hand's Daughter, and Lion Of Macadon.

Summary: Best work of Gemell yet
Review: This book was next to Legend as Gemmell's best. I love the idea of the dying race and Gemmell brought it out perfectly. Adding views of various Avatars made the book excellent. It was also a world unto its own and it is one of Gemmell's few books that concludes itself without an opening to another book down the line. By far one of the best books I have ever read.

Summary: Fascinating book about today and fantasyworld
Review: This is a book that has everything a fantasylover needs. The greatest thing about the book is the characters tough, they are fascinating.Viruk the madman, Talaban the great hero, Questor Ro and Questor Anu...and last but not least Touchstone. But most of all it`s fascinating because it`s all happening in a fantasyworld the book is about today. It is about how the richer believe they are better than the poor in todays society and how this affect the world we are living in. The Avatars ruling the Vagars is a great metaphore of how the modern capitalistic society works. Great book! Don`t you dear miss it!

Summary: A book that can make you happy and sad.
Review: This is a book you've got to read! It has a way of letting you go inside the characters, and feel with them. Right now you probably think "and so what, so does a lot of other books". And you're RIGHT. So does a lot of books. I don't even know what makes this book so special, but it is. It is truly magical. It is a book about a great race, who is loosing their power. There is a conflict, and Gemmel lets us see it from a lot of different point of views. The story really gets you thinking. I knew this wouldn't be a good review, and it wasn't something planned. I just think you should read it because it is a beautifull tale, and a well written story. That was my first Gemmel book, but it won't be my last. Hope yopu have the same fine start as I had. The stars: I gave it four, because five should be reserved for my all time favorit. It is a really good book, so I couldn't give it less. Read it and judge for yourself.

Summary: For my first read of his, i like his style
Review: This is actually the first of David Gemmells books that i read but i may read more of them now due to the interesting plot of this book. I like how he developed a very distinct yet simmilarity between the contrasting cultures from the avatars to the mud people to the almecs. You can see the emotions that the avatars had to deal with in accepting their final fate. I enjoyed how he showed what becomes of a "superiority", for lack of better word, when time takes its toll. I reccomend this book to any "sci-fi with a twist of fantasy" reader.

Summary: Realistic Fantasy
Review: This is not your average fantasy that finds a naive, magic filled serving boy to venture off on a quest to save the world from an evil wizard.

Gemmell is a much better writer than that. An immortal race called the Avatars have maintained their grip over the rest of mankind using a technology based on magic crystals. However, a world wide calamity overtakes their empire and for 70 years they struggle maintain their grip, but time and stagnation work against them.

From across the sea comes an evil race called the Almecs who serve the Crystal Queen. Confronted by the people they have enslaved for centuries and an equally lethal enemy, the Avatar Empire struggles to survive.

Like most Gemmell novels his characters are complex, noble, and generally, not very nice. They are real people, and the strength of his books are the people he draws to play across the landscape.

Without giving anything away, there are few happy endings in this book, but there are tremendous portraits of courage and valor.
