Summary: A Great read!
Review: I remember reading this book in high school. I was so hooked that I never studied but instead hid this book inside my schoolbooks until I finished it, and then...well...I had to read the other two in the great series! I loved the Characters. He's a real bad barbarian! Totally tough. The ranking system is unique and never equalled before!

Summary: Can we get a hardcover PLEASE!!
Review: It kills me that this book (and the series) isn't available in a more durable (hardcover) edition! This is one of my favorite series and I have read and re-read it several times over the last few years. Duncan has taken the old "stranger in a strange land" fantasy novel and given it a fresh and delightful new feel. Read the series the first time just to enjoy the interaction. Read it again to see just how many clues leading up to the ending that you missed (and then tell everyone you really knew they were there all along! :) ). Gives the series a try! It is worth your time.

Summary: A great Series
Review: Ok picture yourself in a hospital, having fevered dreams and possibly dying. Suddenly you come to, your naked, there is a slave girl, and your in a barbarian body Conan would be proud of. What's the catch? You have to serve a Goddess and fix a problem in her world only your particular talents can seem to solve; a combination of our world knowledge and skills the body you now possess contains. To help you in her quest, you are given a sword of legend believed to be lost and are the most powerful swordsman to ever grace this world, an enthusiastic if clumsy apprentice, a beautiful slave girl and her baby, an aged priest, and a playful and sarcastic mini-god named Shorty. If you succeed, anything you could possibly imagine will be yours; fail and death is certain and assuredly painful. Where do I sign up do you say? Well Wallie Smith, isn't sure he's the man for the job. In a world where violence is the standard fare, swordsmen are the enforcers of the goddess's law, slavery is common, magic abounds, and to complete the quest make a prophecy come true,Wallie Smith sure has his work cut out for him.

Summary: To add sound to sight while enjoying this masterpiece...
Review: This is a wonderful series. Mr. Duncan has created a universe which makes a delightful home-away-from-home. For the icing on the cake, try reading it while listening to the following CD: "And the Stars Go With You" from Miramar Productions, by Jonn Serrie. The sounds of this CD provide a blend of surreal and real which matches the writing in this book and its two sequels. Enjoy!

Summary: Refreshing Trilogy!
Review: This is one great read. A fun trilogy that is unique. There are so many books that rehash the same old story in this genre. Duncan has done a masterful job here. I have read the series three times and keep wishing for more.

Summary: Dave Duncan writes great characters.
Review: This story is definitely not set in a mythical Northern Europe, like so many fantasy novels. It has Oriental, samurai-ish overtones, and is informed by the interaction of religion, science, magic, technology and power. It is also a great story. But Dave Duncan's real genius is in writing wonderful characters - the thoughtful Wallie Smith, ex-chemical engineer and now swordsman with a mysterious past, his proteges Nnanji and Katanji and the gentle and courageous Jja. In fact, Mr. Duncan simply doesn't write throwaway characters - every person you meet has depth and originality.
