Rating: Summary: Gerrold Betrays Readers Review: The first 4 books of this series are one of the greatest achievements in Sci-Fi literature. That also makes it one of the greatest betrayals ever perpetrated by an author upon his readers. I don't know what the deal is, greed, illness,..., but books 5 (A Method for Madness) & 6 (A Time for Treason) don't look like they will ever see daylight. I found the author's site where there is mention of a movie based on the series but I don't think it's going anywhere and he wouldn't reply to email. There is a special place in hell reserved for authors of unfinished series, David Gerrold claimed his with this one. I recommend against reading this, it's too painful to stop so abruptly. An incredible tragedy.

Rating: Summary: Grand SF in the Heinlein Vein Review: There are only a handful of truly great HARD SF series: Asimov's Foundation, Dickson's Dorsai/Child Harolde, and Wolfe's Torturer come to mind. And then there is Gerrold. Mr. Gerrold takes the alien invasion schtick to a new level of detail, tension, and grandeur. Whether consciously or not, his writing style is reminiscent of Heinlein, and his imagination equals the Dean. Unfortunately, Mr. Gerrold seems to be following Dickson in the inability to actually write the words in order to fulfill his vision. According to Larry Niven, there's a special place in hell for writers who start series without finishing them. Please, David, please don't end up there. If you read the books, you will not be disappointed. But you may join the chorus of those poor frustrated folks waiting for the next one.
Rating: Summary: This unfinished series is one of the finest series I've read Review: This book represents the 4th (and possibly the last, since I can't seem to find any information about when or if Mr. Gerrold plans on releasing future volumes in this series) installment in his acclaimed "War vs. the Chtorr" series. As I write this, it has been some years since I read this novel, but I can say that it is definitely one of the premiere science fiction series that I have yet encountered. Dealing with a full-scale ecological invasion of Earth, Mr. Gerrold deals in a very convincing way with the concept of an entire ecosystem invading our own. This ranges all the way from the microbial level, to huge purple worms with razor teeth that seem to have quite a taste for humanity. Over the course of the series, as you watch Earth's military and scientific branches struggle to understand and defend the entire planet (and constantly losing ground, I might add), you are swept into the desparate plight of the Earth's dwindling population. This is one book that deftly mixes scientific inquiry with action and suspense. At the first of this book, as a group of soldiers invade a subterranean worm colony, I was reminded of similar scenes in the movie Aliens. This book definitely has something for everyone who appreciates good science fiction. A compelling story line, great action, an overriding mystery regarding what/who is actually behind the invasion of Earth, and memorable characters. It's basically Cyberpunk meets Alien and War of the Worlds all wrapped up in one. Read it. You'll enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: The most in-depth, captivating sci-fi story EVER! Review: This captivating book series is the most fascinating I have ever read. The elements of mystery and fascination are just overwhelming! If you remotely have an interest in science fiction, you need to read this series and enjoy each well crafted book. Anyway, where is BOOK 5???
Rating: Summary: Great book, but what happened to the rest of the series? Review: This has been another exciting book in the War Against the Chtorr series, but I have been waiting for 6 years for the next book. Where is it? I am very anxious to see how this series ends, and I'm sure there's more to it than anyone thinks. I want to see the end!
Rating: Summary: Great -- I am begging for the sequel. Review: This is a fantastic series and the only complaint that I have is that Mr. Gerrold is not writing fast enough. I read book four well over a year ago and I am still waiting for book five. Read these books only if you are willing to wait for the author
Rating: Summary: The best yet... Review: This is without question the most impressive book from this incredible series. If you haven't read the preceding three books yet DO! The series has such a wealth of strengths it's difficult to list them all, but in short there is: biological and environmental science, social dynamics and politics (both personal and beaurocratic), military action and technology and superb extrapolations of American society in the next century. The Moral Philosophy (a la Starship Troopers) some will find unpalatable but I found it inspiring. Every time I read the passages about Mode training I want to sign up! I'd like to add that its principles should be taught to all our teenagers, everywhere, because it would make the world a much better place. If the huge volume of great reviews for this book haven't swayed you into buying this series take my personal recommendation, you have my Word that you won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Leave them wanting more, I guess Review: This series is excellent. I love them and have reread the books many times. However, I will not put forth the effort to reread them anymore. We are coming up on one decade since the last book and I've lost faith that there will be any closure on the storyline. If you start reading these books, you will love them. Just don't be upset that when the author dies at the age of 107 and the next book still hasn't been published.
Rating: Summary: A Frustrating Cliffhanger Review: This series of books is so good, I have been walking into book stores every month for the past four years asking for the long-awaited book number five! If you have been wanting to get into a good storyline, this is a great read
