Rating: Summary: "Rings" with a conscience Review: Here is more than just science fantasy (altho there is plenty of that), here is a story of relationships, with more complex feelings than just fear or attraction. F.W.F.'s writing is still simple enough to keep the interest of a middle schooler on up, with no language or situations that would be considered offensive. He paints great images of scenes in the book, and his descriptive accounts of medieval activities such as smithing let you know that he must have a first hand familiarity with the subject.
Rating: Summary: A Sword for the Immerland King review Review: I enjoyed being able to spend some time with the people in this book, seeing their planet, moons, customs, and expectations. I think that Faller shows particular imagination when describing the people, places and particulars of each. It fascinates me to think of how he thought through the story enough to place hints, objects and people in the front of the book that were not revealed until the end. The only thing that seems a bit labored was the length of time spent on the actual making of the sword. Overall it was a wonderful book. I look forward to the next book by this author.

Rating: Summary: A Real Page Turner Review: I plead guilty - I love fantasy and JR Tolkien type literature, so it was easy to love this book. That being said, it was still a real "page turner". The plot was exciting, and not obvious. The characters were real, they made mistakes, were heroic at times and had emotions that you could relate to as you read the book. For instance, the son of the smith made a huge mistake - and you found yourself hoping that he learns from it and doesn't get killed as a result. All that aside, maybe the best thing I can say, is that my 14 year old son couldn't put the book down. Highly recommend this book.

Rating: Summary: A multi-faceted tale that gleams at every angle! Review: I read this book in three days while on vacation in Maine. I could not put it down. While it does have a prominent theme of action and fantasy, a Sword For The Immerland King is overflowing with new ideas and true wisdom. F.W. Faller starts each chapter with a quote or proverb that relates to the following chapter. They are all very wise and relevant, and I found myself looking forward to reading each new proverb. For example, two in particular that caught my eye: "Who is the greater prisoner: the caged man whose mind transcends his physical boundaries or the untethered being whose mind holds him in a cage?" and "We are forever doomed to suffer with histories defined by those who are able to shout the loudest.". Faller also deals with some spiritual ideas, such as "cymbic" relationships and the myriad layers of the "vorn" (sort of like the soul). The characters, plot, and scenery are very skillfully developed and described. Aside from everything else, FW Faller has an exquisite way with words, a talent that he exercises in weaving this intricate tale that I will most certainly re-read after I've finished the sequel!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely enthralled with this mystical adventure!!!! Review: I recently read the Sword for the Immerland King and am waiting with bated breath for the sequel. The characters were so life like and their journey was exciting, and terrifying and thrilling all at the same time. Excellent job!! I encourage anyone eager for an amazing adventure to read this right away.
Rating: Summary: Great Fantasy Novel! Review: I was happily surprised to find out that there are still great fantasy authors out there who can not only spin a good yarn, but also do so in a way that shows morally why some ways of acting are better than others. I eagerly look forward to the next book in the series.
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Adventure Review: I was swiftly thrown into another world, where immediately I knew an adventure of great significance lay before me. A kingdom without fear or hate is the ultimate goal, as relevant today as in any other time in history. The forces of two powerful leaders change the destiny of Immerland--a score to be settled with dramatic results. Strong imagery leaps from the pages; strong, vibrant characters weave a thread throughout this unfolding sage.
Rating: Summary: A Fresh Look at Medieval Fantasy Review: I'm an avid reader of Fantasy and Science Fiction and have been since the 1940's. FWF's book about an imaginary world with knights, princesses and blacksmiths is one of the best I've ever read. Some reviewers found it to be a "page turner", but I found it forcing me to go more slowly, to savor phrases, mottos and words of guidance useful in any age. I'm also an engineer and FWF's description of blacksmithing was a real joy to explore, clearly based on his mastery of the craft. As another reviewer said, this book is good for any age from early middle school (possibly earlier for precocious readers) to "mature" (like me!). Do yourself a favor and get this book for many hours of enjoyment.
