Rating: Summary: Fear of the dark.... Review: Well, that theme has been used more times than I can count. Here, it has been associated with everyday people dragged in an alternate universe, a little like Donaldson's Thomas the Unbeliever. I would have given that book 3 and 1/2 stars but I will settle for 4.
I read some time ago another Barbara Hambly's novel set in the Star Wars universe and found that she wrote rather well. This story has been published much earlier and the evolution can be seen. She has a talent to get a grip on you and make you read just so you know what happens next.
I was a little disapointed in two things. First, there is no big fighting moments. When there is one, it happens way too fast. We need more descriptions about the battles. Second, I would have liked to see more correlations about our world and the world of Dare in the actions of the hero. If Gil is so knowledgeable about medieval history, please let her use her skills to help the people. I guess it will happen in the second book, which I began to read ten minutes ago.
See ya.
