Rating: Summary: Charming : Review: "For though the faerie realm remains distant from our own world, there are times and places where these two worlds meet, where a traveler may wander into this hidden place. But keep in mind that evil resides in all parts of both worlds, deep in the back of every human mind -in the darkest corner." Caleng the faerie prince, son of King Perret, finds himself on a dangerous quest. A journey against the darkest of evils that takes him far from his home, the land of Goliad and the castle of Brzden. He meets the beautiful Gn'dhl, Oracle and guide of the realm of Faye and realizes that his life is about to change forever. Caleng's quest to find Fyn'hazzmhn the great wizard who was banished from Goliad by King Perret, his now long lost and imprisoned father, leads him to strange and mysterious lands and hazardous adventures. Author, Maria Romero brings the complex yet endearing characters to life with vivid descriptions and strategically placed humor. The picturesque descriptions of the landscape help the reader to imagine the whimsical and magical locations that Caleng visits. Characters, both good and evil come to life in this mythical fantasy. Caleng is a curious, mischievous boy whose greatest wish is to be a wizard like the great Andrade. We meet Jwbrylla, a plain cranky, stubborn old witch and her closest companion, Hollorbab, a wisecracking bird. The ten and a half foot tall, six hundred and twenty pound Dryad named Quiggles is the kindhearted guardian of our hero Prince Caleng. Children ages 12 and up will enjoy this book, which takes place in a world of faeries, elves, witches and wizards. The book has a simplistic charm, is well written and will captivate young readers. The author has a fascinating character in Caleng who I am sure we will see in many future sequels.
Rating: Summary: Mind Boggling! Review: Listening to a 10-year-old get excited over a book is not a big thing for many parents, but for my reluctant-reading son, it is. Other than Harry Potter not much had caught his interest. My hats off to this author and a big thanks for getting Tim's nose back into liturature. Hope there are more of these books to come!
Rating: Summary: Read it !! Matt Becker Review: A young faerie Prince who has adventures with his friends and wants badly to learn magic. He finds out later he has somehow been transported to earth and must now find a way home. One problem -Caleng, Nicole and Quiggles must travel to find a wizard who will guide them in search of the moonstone that will open a gate and get them back home.
I think I am like Caleng because we are both interested in magic. When Caleng went to earth it was kind of like when I first went to school, we both didn't know anyone there. My favorite part was when the bry'dl fish swallowed up Woolly, although there was nothing I didn't like about the book. The book is one of the best I've ever read. I definitely recommend this book to any type of person who liked Harry Potter -The lion, the witch, and the wardrobe -and Lord of the Rings.
Rating: Summary: An exciting read! Review: From a distant land called Goliad comes Caleng, a young fairy prince. He is a rambunctious, immature, mischievous boy who always gets into trouble at every turn. At one point he journeys outside of their kingdom and into the world of humans. Through the various adventures Caleng to me kept the faerie and the human realms from destroying one another. The greatest adventure came when Caleng, Quiggles and Nicole were in the labyrinthine passages and my favorite part was when Caleng got into trouble in the wizard's chamber. I enjoyed the book tremendously. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to escape reality and dive into the world of daydreams and imagination.
Rating: Summary: Captivating! Review: I loved the book so much that I finished it in 2 days! I'm not usually a book reader, but this one kept my attention. There was always something adventurous going on. The character descriptions were excellent. I could see them in my mind, while I read. This book would be great for anybody, any age after 8 years old. I'll be waiting for other Caleng adventures to be written!
Rating: Summary: Johnathan Hendricks Review: I really liked the book! The best part was when Quiggles and Caleng came to earth on accident. Also how they traveled back home with Nicole. If you like to read, read this book!
Rating: Summary: A classic fairytale : Review: If you are a loyal reader of classic fairy tales filled with extraordinary characters, such as princes, kings, elfins, unicorns, fairies and wizards, and magical gadgets you will probably love Caleng and the Moonstone Pearl. A story about courage, friendship, love, innocence and occasional foolishness that occurred in a land far, far away yet so close to heart. Once again, the friendship between fairies and humans was reconciled and celebrated after a "magical" incident that only happened in the land of the fairies. This is Maria Romero's first children's novel yet she has shown her genuine qualities as a master writer. The details of Caleng's adventurous journey to the Moonstone Pearl are breathtaking. The dialogues are so real. I'd love to see this work adapted into a movie. It would probably become a blockbuster. Until then, perhaps Ms. Romero can continue the story and satisfies the readers' curiosity about how the stone got into the hands of grandpa Ermine.[]
Rating: Summary: great youthful epic fantasy Review: Living in the Kingdom of Golad in the Land of Faye, Prince Caleng may be a purebred Faerie, but like youths of any species he is curious about everything so he impishly seems to get into everything. His goal is to become a great wizard even more renowned than the mighty Andrade. However, instead he finds himself leaving his home at Brzden Castle on a dangerous quest. He seeks the legendary wizard Fyn'hazzmhn, banished by his father King Perret, many ages ago. For through the aid of the mighty wizard, Caleng hopes to rescue his missing father. However, the lad's odyssey takes Caleng far beyond the realm of faerie into a world full of hate, a land of mortals in which he is not only a lost soul transformed into a human body, but could easily meet "mortal" death in this ball of confusion. On the surface this youthful epic fantasy is clearly aimed at a young audience but adults will also appreciate the powerful tale that contains several moral points imbedded brilliantly into Caleng's adventure. The story line is fast-paced yet the author M. Romero insures that key characters, especially those that are mythological, seems real. That is the key to the quest as the Land of Faye and the other realms visited by Caleng seem authentic so that the audience receives a fabulous story that is both complex and simple as only a grand enchantress of a writer can do. Rating: Summary: Terrific story, but no editing. Review: Prince Caleng of the Land of Goliad looks twelve-years-old in human time. He is the prince of the faeries. His mother, Queen Arabela, died when Caleng was but an infant. A hairy giant named Quiggles raises Caleng, since King Perret seems to want nothing to do with his son's life. An evil sorcerer, Dn'Brht, is looking for the forbidden stone. If he claims the stone for his own, Caleng's magical world will die. During a fiery battle, the king and his army are captured. Caleng and Quiggles are thrown into a forbidden land where humans dwell. Worse, Caleng's wings and powers are gone. Nicole Black, a thirteen-year-old girl, stumbles upon the odd pair. She joins their quest. They travel to Colorado Springs in search for a wise and ancient wizard, Fyn'hazzmhn, who had been exiled from Goliad long ago. Only with his help can the three reopen the magical gate. But even if they somehow reach the world of the Faye, how would they defeat such a powerful sorcerer and save everyone? *** This is an astounding story full of magical duels, witches, wizards, faeries, dragons, minotaurs, and more! It reminded me much of the book/movie "The Never Ending Story". The only major problem I have is that it seems not to have been edited. Many sentences are not capitalized and there is no warning, such as skipping a line, to let the reader know that the scene is changing. This caused me a lot of trouble when everyone is off in groups doing different things at the same time. If Harry Potter had been a faerie, instead of a wizard, I believe this is what his tale would have been like. Fast paced, exciting, and just plain fun! P.S. - I would like to own a "never, ever empty cup". *** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.
