Rating: Summary: Fleshes out the macabre pasts of the Rice 'Vampires' Review: The Vampire Armand fills in some of the gaps the chronicles have left us with. This tale tells us about the enigmatic & mysterious Armand, his origins and insights into his thoughts. In true Rice style she manages to tell us a new story with flashbacks and new angles on older stories/characters from her previous chronicles. The ending leaves you wanting more, not a bad thing for an author, however, How long will it be until we get the next classic 'chronicle' outing. Written in Classic Rice style, full of powerfully erotic yet dark images. This tale is not for the faint-hearted, however for die-hard Rice fans, classic horror or gothic groupies, it's a must.
Rating: Summary: Who is right person to judge who and what Armand really is? Review: Because it took so long for us to have more information about the all mighty Armand, it is hard for us to admit, that Armand is not so suprising person. He is just beautiful boy with very sad past. The book was beautifully written, and... no it didn't have the same action that the earlier books, but did it have too much sex in it? ... No, I don't think so. Anne always have had her own way to do these scenes, and although sometimes she makes me flush, it's not that bad. We shouldn't be so damn conservative, they are vampirés, nothing more, nothing less. The book is sensual, and tells the story in the right way. After all, it is Anne who found this person, after all... I, too love Armand as a person, and although I'm still wating for the return of the Lestat, this book made me shiver. It really did. I never see Armand in the same way again... Perhaps it is a curse, perhaps not.
Rating: Summary: Was it good? bad? I'm not sure. Review: When I was reading this book I had just finished Pandora. I wasn't to thrilled with that "Masterpiece". So, when I picked up Armand and started to read that I was delighted. Little confused in maybe the first 20 pages then things started to pick up a little. When Armand was telling his story I was simply fascinated! The depth and character devolopment was quite enjoyable. Though when all was said and done and you got to the end of the book, again you are let down. Such a shame for such a Great story. It almost seems that Anne Rice did not quite know how to finish the book. Or maybe it is a future masterpiece waiting to happen. Who knows, either way my emotions are up and down on this book. In many ways I enjoyed it. In other areas it lacked with poor and sometimes confusing writing that wasn't nescessary. All In all read it if you are an Anne fan. If not. Start with another Anne Rice book.
Rating: Summary: I thought it was an excellent book! Review: Anne Rice has outdone herself again. I loved this book it made me gasp and cry and then want some more. I think it was excellent.
Rating: Summary: Welcome back Anne Rice! Review: In the midst of all the hype over her work and in the shadow of a few recent lackluster books, Ms. Rice has produced perhaps the most beautiful, lush, sensual, heartwrenching and thoughtful book I've ever read in this. I opened it and put it down three hours later when I turned the last page with a sense that I would be reading much, much more of Rice's work in the future. A must read for anyone who cannot refuse beautiful prose and characters so real that you expect them to be standing over your shoulder as you turn the pages.
Rating: Summary: Armand is a BORE! First Violin...now this Review: Rice has got to get her wits about her - she makes no sense these days - there was nothing seductive about this book - i thought it nothing more than smut and gore - nothing magical about ARMAND. I'm exactly 1/2 way through and can't wait until it's over - Come on Ms. Rice, you did PANDORA in between these two ugly beast - you can give us better than that.
Rating: Summary: SHE RUINED ARMAND AND MARIUS! Review: I can't see how ANYONE liked this book! I love Anne's earlier works - Interview and Lestat still rank as two of my all time favorites. But she RUINED both Armand and Marius! Both were strong, unique, and interesting characters in past books. Now they will forever be sniveling, weak, and supid, all because of this book! Anne's writing style was not flowery or insightful (Not like Memnoch, which WAS enthralling) - it was monotonous and boring. That alone would be enough to pan the book. But what she did to Marius and Armand is UNFORGIVABLE!! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!!!!
Rating: Summary: Terrible Review: Unless you are a completist on the vampire chronicles, as I am, skip this book. It is awful. What is the dill-lee-yo with the change in Marius between the two books. I hope in a later book we find Aramond insane so this book could possiably NOT be part of continuity.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful macabre erotica! Review: For those who delight in the more sensuous, erotic novels that Rice has written, The Vampire Armand is welcome decadence. A mixture in part of her Anne Rampling erotica and her Vampire Chronicles macabre, this is one of her best books yet. It portrays it's Botticelli faced antihero as a young boy, abused and shut off, then opening and blossoming into an elegant graceful sensuous being, with the guidance of Marius. The familiar characters are exposed to the readers in a new light, one of haunting beauty and rich detail. The Vampire Armand is an escape from the cut and dry stucco outlined world of the late 20th century. It transports the reader into an era long since decayed and dead, bringing alive music, passion, art, love, and mystery. With the intricate web of storytelling so beautifully laid out in the earlier Chronicles, then the dissapointing denoument of Pandora, horribly out of place and forever aparthied, The Vampire Armand whisks the reader away into forbidden fantasy too long forsaken. I hail Rice's latest brainchild and hope her following books will continue in this stunning tradition.
Rating: Summary: Simply brilliant!!! Review: I'm an Anne Rice fan and from all her books, I love the vampire chronicles the most. This one was no exception, it's extremely sensual and intense and I didn't put it down until I finished the last page. I recommend it to all vampire and Anne Rice's fans. Simply brilliant!
