Rating: Summary: Okay Anne, I was with you right up until this one. Review: I have enjoyed all the books in the Vampire Chronicles immensely- right up until this one. Aramnd was a bit dissappointing. Perhaps Ms. Rice should concentrate on being the quality writer I know she is. We can wait a couple years for the next installment Anne, as long as it's up to your usual standards
Rating: Summary: one of her best works !! Review: I have to disagree with most of the people who have reviewed this book. In my humble opinion, 'The vampire Armand' is one of Anne's absolutely best works. Yes, at some points she describes things maybe a little vividly, but all in all after the first few pages of reading I could hardly put this book down !! I've always wanted to know Armand's whole story, and now that I finally got to read it... I think I understand his actions better ; how he became the vampire he is nowadays. I can hardly wait for the next installation of vampire chronicles, Anne !
Rating: Summary: So much more than just 3 stars Review: I feel this book was absolutely incredible. The level of passion, and eternal tragedy made the read enjoyable and indulging. Armand is my favorite of all the vampires, and it was my dream come true to read a book completely dedicated to him. The only problem I had with it were the two new vampires he made. Other than that, Bravo Anne Rice. It's about time Armand got center stage.
Rating: Summary: What the hell happened to Amand the bad guy? Review: I think that Anne Rice needs to make up her mind on wether she wants Armand to be a bad guy or a good guy. Also why the hell does she skip all the bad things that Armand had supposedly done in the past? This is her worst work yet.
Rating: Summary: Too descriptive, poor narrator Review: I didn't enjoy this book on tape. There was too little action and interaction among the characters. In this book Rice describes everything in excruciating, unnecessary, and unending detail. Jonathan Marosz was a poor choice of narrator. Different character's voices were sometimes hard to distinguish. He just didn't bring them to life as others have (Frank Muller).
Rating: Summary: This book was wonderfull! i love anne rice Review: she did it again!!!! i read this i thought it rocked in fact i liked it so much i read it twice, Ive only had it two months too! i think anne needs to tell the storys of all the vampires, especially all the individuals named in queen of the damned. There were so many that it was a little hard to follow. i love you anne!!!!!!!! and all you losers that think the book sucked well maybe you should read something like the baby sitters club.thank you
Rating: Summary: Patience my dears... Review: If you are patient with this novel and allow the character of Armand to develop it brings forth a lovely story. The life of Armand may not have been as lavish as that of Lestat, but it did yield a rather intriguing story. There were times in the novel that nothing could have torn me away from it....and there were other times in which I wasn't as compelled by the story. But then isn't that just like life... it can not always be a "page-turner" sometimes we merely exist.
Rating: Summary: The worst of the Vampire Chronicles. No more Vampire please. Review: It has a good start but it became very dragging. Her reason as to how Armand survive was not even convincing. I think it is obvious that Anne Rice has run out of plots to tell about the Vampire Chronicles.
Rating: Summary: Anne has no more vampire stories to tell. Review: It took me a while to get around to reading "Armand". While I waited, another vampire book from Anne Rice has appeared in the bookstores, but after reading Armand, I doubt that I will even bother with reading it. Why? Because Anne is repeating herself and I doubt if any book after Armand will ever have anything new or interesting to say. Anne has driven the metaphorical stake through the whole vampire mystique and there is nothing that can be added. In the first part of the book, which is so labored, we learn about Armand and his "special" relationship with Marius which seems to be more of an S&M kind of love. I did enjoy Anne's description of both Italy and Russia. Her eye for detail on clothing is top notch. The only problem is that her characters are boring no amount of clothing, jewelry, or debauchery will hide this fact. Armand being transformed into a vampire and Marius seems to be another replay of the can't let you die because you mean so much to me that is found in every Anne Rice Vampire book. How I long for a Magnus type vampire whose motives are never explained and then promptly disappears. When Armand is separated from Marius, the reader gets jipped yet again. For whatever reason, Anne decides to skip Armand's transformation to coven leader and whatever evil things he did while in Paris before Lestat appears. I guess the thought of a spiritual character serving all that he abhors has no appeal does not make for an interesting tale. When we reach the 20th century, Armand is pretty much a wasted character. We learn what he saw when he tried to kill himself. We learn how he survived. We meet his two companions who do seem to be interesting. We get an update on the rest of the vampire family. And finally, we get the same ending we did in the Body Thief book sans the horror. Despite all of this, Ms Rice is one of the best writers today. She still has the magic to descibe a time and place perfectly. While most vamp fans might be tired with her theological insights, I find them refreshing--Memnoch is her best book since Interview in my opinion. Those are the positives and hence the reason for the 2 stars. Armand demonstrates that Ms. Rice has no new perspective on being a vampire. She has run all the gambit of possibilities. Armand was an established character and an interesting one. This tale presents him as a dead character who had nothing to lose when he became a vampire. He had lost the one thing that mattered to him when he was sold into slavery. And that was in the first chapters of the book. Everything is downhill after that and what a boring ride it is.
Rating: Summary: umm that was that?! Review: ah yes after reading the rest of the vampire chronicles i must say this book was a bit of a disapointment. I know in the other books Armand was a little deprived but i Think to illistrate him a snivling "creature" like that discusted me. The book really refered too much to the other chronicles and wasn't too much for originality. I hope the next one's better.
