Summary: Back to the library within 48 hours!
Review: Maybe it was just too 180 from my latest summer reading selection (Midwives), but this book just bothered me. I have a shelf of Rice books; I've done the standing-in-line, book-signing thing. I've even walked by her house in New Orleans, proof positive of a devoted fan. But "Armand"... I felt embarrassed reading it, for myself, and for Ms. Rice. I dumped it into the drop box at my local library, unfinished. All I could think of was Lestat, on horseback, racing away from the wolves. Now THAT was a story.

Summary: Lushly sensual as always
Review: Only "The Triumph and the Glory" is better at grabbing a reader and transporting them into the tale with such graceful dispatch and keeping them there. Anne Rice has given us another beautifully written novel with The Vampire Armand. Enjoy it. I did.

Review: Poor Anne Rice. I was as bored reading this book as poor Armand must have been having to play the part. Anne Rice needs to move on to different subject matter. Her prose has become weak, anemic over the years. Her once lush descriptions and characterizations have lapsed into lazy writing where each character talks like the next and they all to seem to whine and complain about EVERYTHING. Boring. Interview, Lestat, and Body Thief are the only enjoyable books in this series. Rice is so concerned now with exploring new philosphical and spiritual territory that she's forgotten that what we want is a... STORY.I returned this one to the store after only reading the first forty or so pages.

Summary: A great start, but the last half leaves a lot to be desired
Review: I love Anne Rice books. In fact she was the first author that I labeled "my favorite", she writes her book with a plot that encourages thought on deep issues like life, death and religion, but at the same time brings across an interesting storyline that you find yourself almost believing could be true. BUT... lately, Anne has done so much deep thinking on these heavy issues she forgot the plot; it happened with Memnoch, it happened with Servant of the Bones and it sure the heck happened with Armand. Armand starts off as a great story about the vamp that has been the most mysterious in the Vampire Chronicles, Armand, lover of both Lestat and Louis. It's a great piece of material to start with and honestly Anne develops a story that is addictively readable... up until the middle of the book, where the plot drops to almost nill. It seems the entire last half is just a rush to get to the resurrection of Lestat, and it seems in her enthusiasm she did a botched job. Where fine detail and loving portraits of characters and their motivations are evident in the first half, a sketchy, confusing characterization of people like Benji, Sybel and even modern Armand himself are the hallmark of the second half. Anne, if ever you read this, listen to me... I love your books, I love what part of your life you share with us, and I love the ideas you bring into your novels, but please, I beg you... remember those of us that want to be entertained as much as we want to ponder the mysteries of the universe.

Summary: On target as always...
Review: My disappointment with the ending of the Lestat's reign in the Vampire Chronicles ended. Anne Rice's abiliity to write a novel from the perspective of yet another character and make it appear that it comes from another author continues to amaze me. Say what you will about the plot but one must admit that its hard to believe that this novel was written by the author of Interview or any of the Lestat books in the series. Once again, Anne Rce hits the mark.

Review: Wonderful imagery and imagination continue in this new book from Anne Rice. I never knew that Armand was such a complex character. This book dispelled all questions I had with the character from previous mentionings. Definitely recommended to all who love the Vampire Chronicles!

Review: I loved this book in every way. It was the best book ever. I never really liked armand in the other book but this book helped me undersand him and things about him that other books left out. I hope anne rice would write more cool books like this in the vampire chronicles.
