Summary: no one writes suspense better
Review: Wilbur Smith, has superseded himself! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! The characters and action are so real, as if you were right there inside the story. Incredibly detailed, the master suspense writer has reached new hights.

Summary: Good but too heavy
Review: Now this is one long book but it is well written about ancient Egypt and Pharoah Nefer Seti. ...

Summary: Magnificent novel
Review: Wilber Smith has done it again. His sequel to River God was done in an incredibly smooth sequel novel. The third person narrative was crafted in a smooth transition from the first person narrative of the novel River God. My awe at the once slave, eunich Taita, now a Magus (magician, etc), from his humble first person narrative in River God, to his third person narrative in Warlock, has only increased ten fold. The book is brutal, savage, sweet, and a lot more. Wilbur Smith is a great artist, crafting his characters over 3 generations with superb detail to chronology, history and detail. I only hope that there will be another sequel...I still have 70 pages to read in Warlock, and hope that Taita survives to tell another tale in his long 200 year life.!!!! Bravo Mr. Smith...you are a master of storytelling!!!!

Summary: Historical fiction at its best
Review: I am a Wilbur Smith fan. I have read most of his books. This one is a fast read (although a lengthy book). His detail is very vivid. His tale is believable, entertaining and informative.

Summary: Loved It!
Review: This novel just sucked me in. I just couldn't put it down. Wilber Smith knows how to develope his characters and expand the readers vocabulary. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: River God meets Lord of the Rings
Review: After reading RIVER GOD, it became one of my all time favorite novels, and made me discover the great story telling capabilities of Wilbur Smith. But WARLOCK takes Taita, the wonderfully developed character from RIVER GOD, and turns him into an all powerful sorcerer. This would not have been a problem if Smith had started the series with magic in mind. One of RIVER GOD's best qualities was the realism of the characters. But all of a sudden Taita is casting spells and magical webs. On a literary note, Smith composed RIVER GOD in the 1st person, giving Taita's charcter an astounding sense of depth and believability. But WARLOCK jumps into the minds of all the characters and doesn't allow the reader to truly understand Taita. It was as if someone else wrote this novel, and Smith attached his name. The bottom line: If you enjoyed RIVER GOD, steer away from this novel, as it will disturb the wonderful story that Smith left us with his first book.

Summary: Herb's Review
Review: A different kind of book from Wilbur Smith. Contains a lot of unreal mysticism, magic and exagerated god worship stuff. Perils of Hero and heroine too extreme to accept. All in all, though a very entertaining story and well worth reading.

Summary: The Saga Continues
Review: This novel continues the epic adventure of Egypt and its people. All of the excellent and interesting characters and their decendents are presented and updated as only Mr. Smith's adjectives can accomplish. An exciting and engrossing tale is woven with the same remarkable visual imagery as in "The River God" and "The Seventh Scroll". Taita lives!

Summary: Wilbur is losing it.
Review: As one who has read all of Wilbur Smith's novels through the years, this one is a real disappointment. Most of Smiths novels weave a great story, while giving us insight into Africa, it's history, culture and traditions. Warlock, unfortunately, doesn't come close to doing this. Instead, it reads like some kind of teenybopper romance novel, filled with gore and sexual escapades. There is little suspense and you can usually see the story unfolding pages ahead....

Summary: Warlock is a page turner
Review: What a great summer read. I took Warlock everywhere I went, including my daughters wedding to be sure that when I had a free minute I could slide off somewhere quiet and read. I found Warlock to be a suspenseful and intriguing read. While I am still somewhat new to Wilbur Smith (I've read Birds of Prey, Monsoon and River God) I feel like I've just watched a Errol Flynn movie when I've finished with his books. All of the books I have read are full of high adventure. Warlock is the best one yet.

The young Nefer orphaned by the underhanded assassin Naha. The old Warlock's work is cut out for him. The book is comprised of one adventure after the other until the new king is victorious and settled in his throne with his young queen.

Great characters. Plot is wonderful and finely spun like a spider web. Scenes are so well described that you can taste the Nile or feel the heat of the desert.

I'll read it again.
