Rating: Summary: Great tale! Clemens built a trap that captured this reader! Review: In Wit'ch Fire, a new world is created for the reader. The world has unique inhabitants with different endearing human qualities all readers can identify. Heroes and outcasts are drawn together to save their world; but be warned--the role of hero, villain, and victim shifts quickly. Clemens does an exceptional job of keeping the reader engrossed--rare pauses allow the reader to relax only to find another twist in the land or characters. Read and enjoy the World of A'loa Glen.
Rating: Summary: Pick up this book. Review: First of all this is not my cup of tea but this book never drags and it is action packed. So even though I don't buy Fantasy novels I bought this one because of the author's other book and I was not disapointed. This will be an amazing series.
Rating: Summary: Original writing of a familiar plot!!! Review: When getting involved with a book it must have believable character with motivations, depth and feeling. Wit'ch Fire delivers all at a breakneck speed which goes the pace. In the begining we don't have any idea of how deep the plot will go. We only have a glimer of it, yet as the book progresses we see people developing the plot with practically each sentance. Elana, the wit'ch is a young girl just hitting her firt mense. She is untried and innocent with life and all its hardships. All through the story she looses more and more untill there is nothing left at all. Yet through it all she is developed and matures beyond our expectations! The other characters I found were very believable representations of other mystical races such as elves, ogres, shapeshifters and nymphs. Whole books could just be writen on each of the other characters in the story alone. I think Mr Clemens may do just this, only time will tell! I thouroughly enjoyed 'Wit'ch Fire.' However I only give it 4 stars because of the damn apostroph'es. ARGGHH. I found them at times anoying and quite intrusive into the flow of the story. Other than that, it is a very original work using a familiar plot line of the prophesiesed heroine! Enjoy one and all!
Rating: Summary: Good, needs better pacing and character development Review: The book certainly packs a lot of action into short amount of space. I would have prefered to see a slightly slower pace to allow the characters to develop a bit more fully and give the reader a chance to digest the information and appreciate the implications of the storyline. The pacing reminded me of many of todays action movies ... plenty of bang, bang, bang with little time to breath. It seems geared more towards an MTV type audience.... those with a limited attention span and need for constant stimulation. I tend to like the more restrained pacing of Tolkien and Jordan (although Jordan is getting carried away with his tedious/repetitive narrative and plot development). Overall though the story is good and has some interesting twists. A map of the region would have been helpful. I am looking forward to reading the second book.
Rating: Summary: This book was one of the best fantasy I've ever read! Review: This book was one of my all-time favorites. It was very well written. James Clemens is a great author. I love magic, and this book was centered around Elana, who blooms with power and is wanted by the Dark Lord. I have not yet read Witch Storm, but I will. I highly recommend this great book for anyone who has a love for fantasy, and, especially, magic.
Rating: Summary: i love it Review: this book is good stuf
Rating: Summary: Never a dull momment Review: As many other readers stated, the book is captivating from the very first chapter. The flow of the tales and the sub-plots come together very nicely. The characters are well-developed and the twists keep the story fresh yet consistent. About halfway through, I already was upset that the story was going to end and the sequal wasn't yet written. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to read. I'm ranking it right near the top of my list.
Rating: Summary: Truly an enchanting ride... Review: New author James Clemens brings to life a dark sinister evil that glares back at you from the pages of his first book Wit'ch Fire. With a dark gothic feel the reader is taken on a frantic ride of love, betrayal, and fear. With a unique beginning that tugs at that small piece of humanity that always wants answers to even the darkest secrets, the reader is pulled into his world. The book is filled with magic and adventure that makes this reader anxious for the next in the series. James Clemens introduces an unforgettable cast of companions that have you on the edge of your seat. With evil creatures stalking their every move it takes all of the companions unique abilities to stay alive. With a great cast of characters throughout the book he incorporates new ideas and new creatures into his world that leave you breathless. Humans, wolves, elves, shapeshifters are just the tip of the iceburg in this pulse pounding tale of fantasy, adventure and imagination to the highest degree!
Rating: Summary: Buy Wit'ch Fire immediately! Review: This book was by far the best book I have ever read. It was captivating from the very first page to the very last. The entwining array of unique characters will have you reading until you finish it and are left wanting more. The plot was enthralling and imaginative. Everything in this book was beautifully described with an immense and colorful vocabulary. I couldn't put this book down! I stayed up for hours just reading away. The second that I finished this book I went straight to amazon.com and pre-ordered Wit'ch Storm, the second in The Banned and the Banished series. James Clemens is one of the best new voices in the world of fantasy. If you haven't already, buy Wit'ch Fire immedaitely and order up Wit'ch Storm, because I guarantee you won't want to wait a minute for the second book in this incredible series.
Rating: Summary: Exciting Debut Review: If I had to use few words to describe this book it would be: what a ride! From the prologue to the last chapter, the rollercoaster ride never lets go. After reading Robert Jordan's snailspeeding through _A Path of Daggers_ and George RR Martin's measured pace of _A Clash of Kings_, _Wit'ch Fire_ goes at an absolutely breakneck speed in comparison. The characters are good but not great. They are exposed mostly through their actions than through endless soulsearching parentheses. The story is also not very original. In brief, it is the usual girl-who-becomes-the-hero is in way over her head and will probably end up saving the world in the sequels. She is also aided by the expected set of unsual and extraordinary sidekicks who help her every time she needs it. For those of us who are sick and tired of books ending in midplot, _Wit'ch Fire_ has a satisfying conclusion: the first chapter of the saga is over, but more is to come. Don't get me wrong, this is an exciting debut and I will get the sequel as soon as it is released.
