Rating: Summary: buy it! Review: this book is soooooo good! the writing style is very simple, but clear. The characters are so well developed it is easy to get drawn into their life, by the middle of the book the reader can identify the character who is speaking just by the phrasing of the diction! I enjoyed this book very much and I plan to buy alll the sequels!
Rating: Summary: The Wit'ch series should be ranked with The LotR ,Shannara& Review: The best of Dragon Lance and Forgotten Realms! I've read just about every Fantasy book out there and Wit'ch is the cream of the crop!Clemens developes his characters, gives us twist, turns and surprises and creates a world that the reader is totally drawn into. You can feel all of the characters emotions. You can see the landscape he paints. You can feel the evil that exist and be afraid of it!You feel like you know these people and are traveling with them. The book moves along very well with plenty of action and plenty of interesting detail. Reading these books is the next best thing to live in their world! I could not put any of the books down and have read them multiple times! I can't wait for the next installment! READ THIS BOOK!!!! You will be glad that you did.
Rating: Summary: Will definitely follow through the whole series. Review: Clemens has obviously thought out the plot very thoroughly and in great detail, which is good. There are no unecessary details, and everything links together neatly from beginning to end, giving readers a clear and concise view of the world.I especially like Clemens' characterisations of characters, even if they are not one of the most important characters. He tells you the stories behind Mogweed, Fardale, Tolchuk, etc., offering in-depth views into their complex and intriging characters. And the way he writes it, readers are not compelled to instantly categorize characters as 'good' or 'bad'. I like the way he left people wondering who exactly was on Elena's side, offering readers a chance to puzzle it out before finally revealing the answer. If there is anything to criticize, it is that Clemens is still - relatively - new to writing. The multiple prologues tend to feel pompous and are rather redundant. The apostrophe in the names is seriously overused. One final thing is the overkill of evil creatures attacking Er'ril and Elena (which is at every turn in the plot). By the 3rd book, the fear and adrenaline rush I felt whenever they were attacked had faded away as battle scenes became commonplace and victory was always guaranteed. These aside, I wholeheartedly recommend the series. You can borrow a copy to read, but if you have the money, you *should* invest in a new copy for your own collecion.
Rating: Summary: Overly ominous Review: This book has gathered so many accolades that I really expected something special. I was disappointed. The situations and characters didn't seem like much more than cliches, and I wasn't ever surprised by any of the plot twists. I also wish that his editor had told Clemens that adding the really annoying ' character in the middle of common fantasy words doesn't accomplish anything useful. Wit'ch, moon'falcon, elv'in, Gul'gotha, etc. Darkness has conquered the land, and only a few avatars of the ancient forces of good have survived. A girl is born to fulfill the prophecies and save the land from domination. I gave it three stars because the writing is good enough that I was usually entertained while reading. May still read the second in the series if I find it used.
Rating: Summary: Ok for a beginner Review: Pretty much what you would expect from a guy who is in vet medicine and writing his first sci-fi novel. The whole novel covers only 2 days (the characters must have been very exhausted --all that happening and no sleep for 2 days??) but the characters are actually pretty interesting and the evil ones are pretty nasty. There were many inconsistencies and contradictions in this book, but by the second book, the writer seems to have found his groove and solidified his ideas. I do have to say that the cover art is hideous on all the books. . .
Rating: Summary: Excellent Dark Fantasy Review: Mr. Clemens has written an exciting and dark fantasy. This novel passes freely, and expertly, back and forth from horror novel to quest fantasy, and it keeps the pages turning. An excellent novel by an excellent writer. There are currently three novels in this series, and after reading Wit'ch Fire, you'll want to read them all. Also recommended: novels by James Rollins (hint, hint)
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book!! Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read! It's such a great story, and the plot is very interesting and complicated, and there are a lot of twists that bring all of the charectors together. Elena is a very believable charector, and I just can't tell you how much I loved this book. I've read all three, and I'm really looking forward to the fourth one coming out. If anybody knows when it's going to come out, please tell me, because I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation to read it. (I hate waiting for the next book in the series to come out... Like with Harry Potter, and The Shadowleague series :( But I'm still here ;)
Rating: Summary: A excell'ent beg'inning. Review: "Wit'ch Fire" begins James Clemens' 'Banned and Banished' series. In this first book, which is mostly introduction of the major characters, and a long story that gathers them in once place, you learn that this fantasy world has turned dark and evil over the centuries, and that a prophecy speaks of a single woman, a young girl, who might bring a beginning - or an end - to the world as it is known. This girl, Elena, is a wonderful character. Gifted with the ability to wield a kind of blood magick not seen for hundreds of years, and even then only seen in men, this loved and cherished girl suddenly becomes a pariah when demon forces begin hunting her down. A gathering of many different fantasy creatures and races, guided by various prophecies, slowly weave into the party that will travel and protect Elena, as she hurriedly tries to learn to use her gifts, and desperately hopes to survive the coming of the Dark Heart and its minions. A very stirring read marred only by an unnecessary proliferation of apostrophies. D'warf, El'vin, Wit'ch - it's enough to drive you to distraction. Still, the story itself makes it more than worthwhile to suffer through these written hiccoughs. Good for fans of George R.R. Martin, Lyn Flewelling, or Robert Jordan.
Rating: Summary: Not the best Review: While the story is complex and the fantasy/magic elements are plentiful I was extremely bored with the characterization. The best adjective I can come up with for the Elena and her band is "pathetic" and that applies singularily and in group. I think the villans would have been more interesting, but we don't really see them. It is tough to identify with so many pure victims.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Read! Review: Unbelievable book!. Fantastic! It brings me back to the world of Lord and the Rings all over again. It was truely refreshing to read such fine work by an amazing writer after haven't read any science fiction or fantasy books for a couple of years. I was in the search for finding a new author so I just picked this book out randomly after reading its description. I was looking for someone with not just a good plot and good review, but for someone who could write a damn good book. I'm definitely a fan of James Clemens for now on. The book was so intense, such a page turner that I couldn't wait to get to the end. If your looking for a world to lose yourself in or just a plain ol' rollercoaster ride, this is your book. I'm on to the second book, Wit'ch Storm.
