Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A weak ending to what started out really good. Review: This novel picks up right where "Divided Allegience" left off. If you read it, then you'll probably want to read this one to see how everything ends. I can't say I hated this book, but it was a poor ending to a story that began so magnificantly in "Sheepfarmer's Daughter".What disappointed me about this novel? First, Paksennarion's journey into saint like status continues. When she achieves that status, her character becomes too perfect, less real, and less interesting. Second, most of the novel centers around solving a mystery that should have been obvious to the characters, but they take forever to see what any reader obviously could very early on. Third, there is a violent "crucifixion" scene towards the end of the book that is badly set up. I don't mind graphic writing except when it's used in the way this was. The scene was not well integrated logically with the rest of the story and served no other purpose than to try and trigger pity and shock from the reader. I was just bored. Overall, it would have been nice to see the last two novels in the Paksennarion trilogy maintain the feel and quality that "Sheepfarmer's Daughter" had.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A legend is born! Review: `Oath of Gold' is the culmination of one of the greatest science fiction/fantasy trilogies ever written. The first two books of `Deed of Paksenarrion' trilogy were very well written, and this book is no exception. Elizabeth Moon has told this story in such a way that you can not help but fall in love with the main character. Once I picked up this book, I could not put it down until I was finished. The book is beautifully written and has a plot that will keep you involved till the very end. I found my heart breaking with each adversity Paksenarrion was put through, and I found myself soaring with joy each time she overcame her obstacles. I could go on and on giving praise to this book and to the entire trilogy. Let me just say that everyone who enjoys science fiction/fantasy needs to read the whole story of Paksenarrion from the beginning to the ending.
