Rating: Summary: I hope there are plans for another book Review: I hope there are plans for another book. I know it would be hard to find another storyline for the characters to follow up on. But I think that the characters themselves are so 'alive' that any sequel to this book would sell itself on the sheer basis that it's a sequel to "The Broken Sword".
Rating: Summary: A WORK OF ART!!! JUST AS GOOD AS THE FIRST Review: I love this follow-up to The Forever King. The characters were awesome and the story is interesting and engaging. I just wish there were more books in the series. If you enjoy King Author or just good story then this book and its predecessor are great reads.
Rating: Summary: The (TRIUMPHANT) return of King Author is Awesome! Review: I love this follow-up to The Forever King. The characters were awesome and the story is interesting and engaging. I just wish there were more books in the series. If you enjoy King Author or just good story then this book and its predecessor are great reads.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Mix of Arthur Tales and Urban Fantasy Review: I loved the Forever King and I love this follow-up. For its genre, this is one of the better ones. It's hard to name the genre though, because this is a bit of a mix between "King Arthur Tales" and what is being called "Urban or Modern Fantasy." Lots of detail about Druidic magic, dark rituals, and mystical power in general, but it's also a thriller/mystery/action story. My only complaint is that the characters' emotions seem a little flat considering all that's going on. The descriptions of the knights in modern settings are wonderful though.
Rating: Summary: A Diffrent Kind of Book Review: I picked it up as something to keep me occupied for an hour and I ended spending the rest of the day reading it. It has a lot of twist and turns and keeps your attention the whole time. If you like something a little off the beaten path, this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Knights of the round table in the 21st century!!! Review: I read the Forever King and loved it!!! I bought The Broken Sword and loved it as well! The only thing I didn't like about it was the way they develop the characters of the knights of the round table! They seemed to be ugly, alcoholic, toothless, never had a bath oafs!! To me they were always clean cut, intelligent, strong, handsome, and well mannered knights! They really didn't delve into the characters of the knights of the round table very well. But the book itself is great! I want more!
Rating: Summary: A very entertaining modern adaptation Review: I thought I had exhausted the genre of Arthurian fiction, and had resolved to eschew it forever! (Except to re-read old favorites from time to time) So I saw this book in an airport, and having just finished my allotted "airplane" book, I read the back cover of "The Broken Sword" and was intrigued enough to go ahead and get it. And I enjoyed every page of it! It was refreshing to read about the knights trying to make their way through the 20th century in search of their liege, especially riding down the highway on stolen Hogs! The character of Saladin was disturbing, and the pagan rituals he performed frightened me and kept me turning the pages. At first, I didn't expect to like Mr. Taliesin, imagining him as a doddering old sidekick to Arthur, but he shines as the story progresses, with involved and interesting insight into his past with the Innocent. Anyway, I recommend the Broken Sword to anyone with an imagination and a sense of humor.
Rating: Summary: 5 stars.....BUT Review: I won't go into much detail of the book, but suffice it to say that if you enjoy Arthurian myth, but with a twist, then you will totally love this book. The intertwining of past and present is extremely well done, tastefully and with great respect to the Arthurian legends of old, but with a flare lacking in the classical works. My ONLY complaint about the 2 book series is that they cut out what had been a very high profile character and left the fate of this character hanging, and I'd like to know what happens :) Maybe we'll get lucky and there will be a 3rd book to close it out properly.
Rating: Summary: Incredible. One of the best re-tells of the Arthurian myth. Review: In "The Forever King" Cochran and Murphy created one of the most original re-interpretations of the Arthur legend. In "The Broken Sword" they continue the story of Arthur, Galahad, and Merlin and give a unique view of the less described elements of the legend - How did Merlin become a wizard? Why did no other Druid help Arthur? And most important of all, Where did the magic go? I fervently hope that the series is continued, as I would love to see how Arthur reclaims his throne.
Rating: Summary: 5 stars.....BUT Review: It's OK to like this book. it's friendly, it's fuzzy, it's... it is, in the end, a kid's book written for adults. Or an adults book, written for kids. Thoroughly enjoyable, a good adventure based on all the old stories and fables. It's a yarn that needed to be told (wasn't Arthur known as the once and future king?) and Cochran and Murphy tell it well. The sequel will be interesting - a republican king? And what will Charles, Camilla, Henry, and all that pasty-faced lot do? Listen - if you have any interest in the Arthurian stories, you'll have to read it, because it does add to the lexicon. But if you want something that tells what Arthur and Co. might have really got up to, go to Amazon's Bernard Cornwell site, and buy the Winter King series. Now, that's Arthur!
