Rating: Summary: 1 of the best kept fantasy secrets. Review: Not as well known as many other authors, but this book is the best fantasy book I've read in a long time. If you want an interesting new world, intense action, sunspense and a great character, this book is the one for you. Probably the best combat descriptions ever.
Rating: Summary: Surprisingly good Review: not so great of a fantasy book. i didnt like his ideas for elves and trolls and all. some of the dialogue and portrayal of this fantasy world did get a little goofy.. but if you can get away from that, ignore it, this book is pretty good. the action is absolutely unreal. best action ive ever read, ever. seriously. and the tension? o man. i was so stressed out by reading about the main character being stressed out. it was intense. their pain was my pain, or atleast hari's pain was. hari michaelson was a great main character. the love for his wife was so deep and dark and Strong! amazing. when he was thinking about her to himself, i had this ache inside me to match his. i really felt it. and the way he just annihilated everyone in his path. that was great. its so satisfying to see the main character refusing to back down, to keep charging and crush his enemies. refreshing. also, the scifi aspect is very interesting. i like the future- earth scenario, how hari is an Actor, the technology and society and everything. it was really cool. exciting read overall.
Rating: Summary: Action Packed Review: One of the best action books I have ever read. That is not to say this book is only in the Action/Adventure category. It is very much a fantasy and sci-fi book as well. It has just the right blend of both to make this a truly worthwhile book.I also liked how the book wrapped everything up nicely at the end and didn't leave the reader hanging. Which worked out great because the sequel wasn't as good anyways.
Rating: Summary: LIKE ITS HERO, THIS BOOK KICKS BUTT! Review: The fighting in this book is awesome! Unlike most fantasy/SF writers, this guy sounds like he's actually kicked a little butt in his time. His fight scenes are better than Salvatore's! And the plot is astonishing, complicated, but completely logical. An amazing book!
Rating: Summary: new premise for fantasy theme Review: The premise of a more advanced technilogical society that is able to transport a person/persons into a less advanced society and then being able to experience his adventures through an advanced virtual reality machine is very well thought out. Overall, a very entertaining book that has promise of more to come. Anyone who enjoys fantasy will enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: Heroes Die is HOT! Review: There aren't many books in the fantasy/SF genre that have gripped me like this one. An original blend of straight SF and other-world swords and sorcery, Heroes Die is a fast, action-packed and very readable epic that is sure to delight even the most jaded, of whom I am sadly one. The characters are real and as conflicted in their own strange way as any of us. The plot is complex and the level of suspense is positively unbearable at times. You will love the devious twists that Stover takes you through as you follow his Heroes to the final confrontation. Very inventive and original. This book kept me fully engaged. A very lively read and highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: An Excellent Book Review: This book has to rate among my top 10. The sheer power of the book is astounding. This book will play with your emotions like a game of cat and mouse. I highly suggest it.
Rating: Summary: Suprisingly real, gritty, and entertaining. Review: This book is so unlike Stovers other stuff. The plot while fantastic is made believable by the convincing characters. Caine would make a great series subject. His cynical, bloody, and sometimes fatalistic outlook makes the reader root for him even when he's gone blood simple and just wants to kill somebody. Read this book, its great!
Rating: Summary: Boggles the mind Review: This book should give both SiFi and Fantasy lovers a satisfactionary read. The twists and turns in this book is fantastic and if you think this book is a bit strange then wait until you read the sequel "Blade of Tyshalle" which really boggles the mind. Overall a fantastic read with a lot of surprises and outstanding in its originallity
Rating: Summary: An Excellent Cross between High Fantasy and Science Fiction Review: This is my first "adventure" into the type of fictional world that Matthew Woodring Stover creates in HEROES DIE, but his work in IRON DAWN and JERICHO MOON made me chance it -- and it was definitely worth the risk of the trip. I never thought I'd like this genre, but Stover changed my mind with Caine and Pallas Ril and his skillful rendering of characters who are everything from loyal friends and passionate lovers to brutal warriors who carry never-ending grudges. If you've never tried this area of fiction before, Stover gives you an excellent place to test the waters. You'll find them addicting indeed.
