Summary: Children and Adults alike!
Review: I too enjoyed reading this book. I have three girls and would read this book at night before they retired to bed. We all had some wonderful dreams. This book is for the whole family. We are looking forward to the next book by these magnificent authors!

Summary: A fun book for me and my grandson
Review: I try to read at least one book a month with my grandson, and this month he chose King Fortis the Brave. It was a fun book that kept us turning the pages and let us share a few laughs. In fact, Collin is still quoting the Ward when he comes over. The characters were well-rounded and likable and the sentences flowed from one to the next making it easy to read out loud. This is a book that will pull young readers in and, despite one review to the contrary, there is plenty there for adults to love as well. The comment that the mayor made when Rodney and Aimee first arrive in Daak, for instance, still makes me chuckle. "In my political undertakings I'm used to using big words and complex phrases designed to confuse others and make them think that I'm smarter than I really am. As a politician it is expected of me." Anyone who's ever watched a presidential debate knows how true this is.

But unlike the Mayor, there is nothing confusing or overly complex about King Fortis the Brave. It is simply a well-crafted fantasy tale that will appeal to most everyone.

Summary: Extremely over-rated
Review: I usually don't find the energy to write a review, but after staring dumbfounded at the glowing reviews for this book I felt I had to, if only in order to spare another reader.
This book is far, far from being great. In fact, it is incredibly bad. With its clumsy dialogue, barely serviceable plot, one-dimensional (ok, is there one exception?) characters and just plain bad writing, it is definitely not worth either the time or the money I spent on it.
I make no claim that children will not like it. However I do take exception to the claim that discerning adults will enjoy it as well.
If you enjoy fantasy written for children read The Phantom Tollbooth, the Oz books by L. Frank Baum, The Treasure Seekers, Charlie and the Chocolate factory, the Narnian chronicles, and a host of other marvelous tales that can truly be enjoyed by both the young and the young at heart.
Skip King Fortis the Brave.

Summary: An Oz for the new millenium
Review: In 1900, L. Frank Baum ushered in the 20th century with the now classic Wonderful Wizard of Oz. 102 years later, LaMontagne and Snyder have taken the fantasy/modern fairy tale to a whole new level, creating a masterpiece that all other 21st century books in this genre will be measured against. The characters are fresh and lively. The prose artfully rendered in a style that will appeal to children and adults alike. One can only hope that, like the Wizard of Oz a century ago, this will be but the first of many visits to the magical land of Daak.

Summary: Kept My Daughter Enthralled
Review: My daughter isn't much of a reader, and I almost hesitated picking this book up, but I had heard good things about it from a friend who is a teacher. I gave it to my daughter for her birthday, and she carried it around with her everywhere until she had finished it. I've rarely seen her as captivated by a book as she was by King Fortis the Brave

Summary: Great New Book for Children and Parents
Review: Reminiscent of the classic The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, this children's novel is a real page-turner with a surprise in every chapter to keep a young reader zooming through it. As should be the case in a well-written fantasy, the major characters are drawn very realistically with a plucky hero and, equally important, extremely strong heroines. Adding to the literary quality, mythic elements of Arthurian legend and The Odyssey are echoed in the text. This book is an outstanding read for children and their parents as well. The depth is such that several topics of discussion present themselves. What are the possible consequences of judging another only by his appearance? When is it acceptable to rebel against authority? Can a person be both good and evil?

Summary: WOW!
Review: This book just blew me away. One question - when does the movie come out?

Review: This is a great story! You remember everything that has happened without going back and reading a few paragraphs. The descriptions of the events are so good you can imagine yourself in the same situations as the characters. I can't wait until Queen Amiee the Wise is available.

Summary: A fantastic Book
Review: This was a fantastic book and I would give it more stars if I could. I brought it to the beach with me the other day and never made it into the water because I couldn't put King Fortis down. Just before I read King Fortis I read Harry Potter 5. When I finished that book I thought it was the best book I've ever read, but now I'm not so sure. I didn't think I'd ever find a book that I liked more than Harry Potter, but that was before I read King Fortis the Brave. I now have a new favorite book and am more anxious for Queen Aimee the Wise to come out than I am for Harry Potter 6.
