Summary: A Wonderful Blend of the Arthurian Legends and the Present
Review: "The Forever King" is a well written and entertaining novel. I particularly enjoyed the backstory of Saladin and the way the authors tied him into the events of history. The only fault that can be found in this book is the poorly explained relationship between Saladin and his servants. Overall, "The Forever King" is a great use of time.

Summary: Good reading
Review: A real nice story and I'm surprised that it hasn't been put into film or video. A nice bit of fantasy based on Arthur, Merlin and a young boy of today.

I enjoyed it the first time and have revisited it more than once.

Summary: A Classic Forever
Review: Arthurian legend is an intriguing subject. There have been many treatments of those legends throughout the years. Most are not very good. This one is very good. The blending of ancient and future elements makes this a very fresh twist on the old stories. Read this and it's sequel "The Broken Sword." They are both enchanting.

Summary: Bad Enough to Make Me Angry
Review: As a devotee of both the Arthurian legend and contemporary urban fantasy, this is the one book I've ever read that I wish I had written. It is the best of the Arthurian crossover literature that I have ever read. I will keep this review brief, as I don't want to take any more time as necessary from starting the next book, "The Broken Sword".

As I said, I would classify this genre as "Arthurian crossover", for want of a better term, as it brings the historical legend of King Arthur into modern times. In this genre, Arthur truly is the "once and future" king. The modern day characters of Arthur Blessing and Hal Woczniak and well written and heroic in every sense of the word. The classic characters of Merlin and Nimue are a little off the traditionally beaten path, but are likewise well-written characters, as well as being truly delightful.

As a disclaimer, the Arthurian segments are not as strong as a stand-alone story as the works of, say, Bernard Cromwell and Jack Whyte, nor are the contemporary segments as strong as the work of, say, Charles DeLint, but the combination is impeccable. I truly wanted the good guys to win with all my heart and soul.

I found the Arthurian segments to be very much like T. H. Whyte's "The Once and Future King", especially in the characterization of Merlin. There was also a touch of Mary Stewart's "Merlin trilogy" in Merlin's lineage as the son of Ambrosius. I particularly enjoyed the treatment of Nimue as a true innocent and found her relationship with Merlin as particularly touching. It isn't always as benign as it is depicted in this book. And the incorporation of the character of Salidin is a stroke of pure genius. I had to look him up to find out that he was an actual historical personage, and he makes me wish I had paid more attention in high school World History class.

All in all, this is a great book and I am going to begin "The Broken Sword" as soon as I file this review.

Summary: The absolute best Arthurian-legend-based fiction ever!
Review: Basically, it should be considered one of the best books ever written. The fulfillment of a 1500 year old prophecy is an excellent way to grap a reader's attention...especially when the story itself spans the course of history...and beyond.

Summary: Couldn't put the book down!!
Review: Goose bumps rose all over me when I read the following..." To arms! Your KING calls you to arms!" GO KING ARTHUR!!! I actually cried!!!! I bought this book by chance and when I started reading I couldn't put it down! I love the tales of king Arthur and all his knights so when the authors placed King Arthur in present day I didn't think they could pull it off...but they did! Kudos to the authors! I loved the twist they gave the characters from the olden times of King Arthur to now! I loved this book so much that before I even finished it I had already gone out and bought the sequel. When I was done with the sequel I went out and bought the other books these arthors wrote as well! I am a very finicky reader so it takes a lot to grab my interest in a book! I would recommend this to everyone with an imagination!!!

Summary: Intriguing
Review: Hal, an ex-FBI agent, runs into an old man on the street who gives him a ticket to a game show. Hal goes, gets chosen to participate, and even wins a trip to England! In the meantime, Arthur, a 10-year old kid in New York, finds a small cup that makes him feel good. But Arthur isn't the only one interested in the cup, and soon he and his aunt find themselves running for their lives. This is an interesting new take on the old King Arthur legend as legendary characters get reborn into modern society and must lead the life they were born to live. We also get new insights into the character of Merlin, or Taliesin.

I thought this book was a lot of fun. It certainly wasn't serious fantasy, but the characters were interesting and the plot was unique. There was enough action to keep the book going, and there was even one gratuitous sex scene to keep things interesting. This is a new story on an old theme and well worth reading. I liked the sequel, The Broken Sword, more than I liked this book but I thought they were both fun.

I would recommend this book to any King Arthur fan, especially those who would like to see a new and unique twist on the old myth. I would also recommend it to fans of urban fantasy, where characters here in our world aren't always what they seem.
