Rating: Summary: Best book that I have ever read Review: I recieved a copy of this book from a friend, before I got it I never read anything fantasy, after this book I became a major fan and make it a point to read anything Stackpole puts into print. While the constant changing points in time was a little hard to grasp at first it was important if you want to pick up as much of the story as you can, parts of the later time line leech off the earlier. Once you start you will find that it is hard to put down, this is the first and only book that made me wish that I had to work a few more hours. The only disappointment that I have with Talion is that is so far it is the only one, no sequal yet. Can always hope.
Rating: Summary: WOW!!!! Review: I'm a big star wars fan and I needed a break from all that stuff even though it is great. So I decided to read this by Stackpole, my favorite author and the author of the X-Wing novels. This was also my first fantasy novel. This book turned out to be the best I ever read. While the way he writes it is confusing because he goes from when Nolan's a novice to when he's a full justice chapter by chapter, you get the swing of it later on in the book. Toward the end it got a little confusing, but after finishing it I looked back on what I read and I began to understand it. If you want a GREAT book, this is what you need.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book Review: Talion is without doubt one of the best books I've read. The main character feels very real as he struggles both to complete his assignment and to revenge himself on his enemies. The moral dilemma pose by the author in this is very compelling. I'm generally not a fan of books that weave back and forth through time but the author really does a good job of relating the events in the past to what the hero is doing right now. I woud highly recommend this book there is no question that is will be well worth the read.
Rating: Summary: Action and Adventure Review: A look into the life of a cop in the times of magic. WOW!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: One of the best books ever! Review: I haven't read many of his other works, but judging by this book, MS is one of the best writers ever. I loved the way he developed his characters, and the first person telling really draws the reader in. I know he says that this was the first book he ever wrote, but his fans (of which I am now one) would be greatful to read more.
Rating: Summary: This is an excellent fantasy novel overall Review: There is plenty to keep you going here. Detailed history that clearly flows into the present. Interwoven national relationships. Relatively original concepts in magic. There is a single viewpoint character, this lends enormous strength to the book. The one drawback was the alternating progression of the story by chapter. That is to say, chapter 1 begins with the character in the "here and now" of the story, chapter 2 jumps back to the beginning of the character's history, chapter 3 picks up where chapter 1 leaves off, chapter 4 picks up where chapter 2 left off, etc. Even chapters tell the story from the point where the main character joins up with what amounts to being a international police force (fantasy style), and continues with this until the last even chapter of the book. Chapter 1 actually begins where the last even chapter of the book leaves off (almost). The odd chapters tell the rest of the tale from there. I'm not sure what was gained by this, because as soon as I started chapter 3, I skipped ahead and discovered what I just related here. I then read all the even chapters, and all the odd chapters. It was quite a page turner. I found the sequential presentation of the story that I artificially created by my odd read of the book to be entertaining. I personally have a tought time being yanked back and forth in time and space in a story, so reading it the first way wasn't really an alternative. I felt my money was well spent, and I'll continue to buy and read this author's novels; and will continue to recommend them to others.
Rating: Summary: Very good book that was hard to put down Review: The only reason that this book didn't receive the full 5 stars from me is due to the plot. If the plot was a little deeper it would have been a better read. The author could have fleshed out the relationships a little better so that the reader cared more about the side characters. The concepts put forth such as the Judges and the training ground were good. The description of the world and how it works was rich with detail. This was the aspect of the book I enjoyed most. This is definitely on my recommended reading list.
