Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Number The Stars Review: Number the Stars is a book about how the Nazi soldiers treated the Jewish people after Adolph Hitler took over Germany,Poland, Norway, and many other countries. He hated Jewish people for some reason,so if a Nazi soldier saw a Jewish person walking on the street they had the right to immediately send them off to a camp where they were never heard of again. In this book, one family took in a Jewish girl named Ellen as their own child, they told her that if anyone asked her name it was Lise Johansen, which was Anniemarie & Kirsti's older sister. My favorite chapter in this book is chapter 5 which is "Who Is The Dark Haired One",because the Nazi soldiers actually showed up at the Johansen household and tore-up the picture of Lise as a baby. I really like this book a whole lot. Out of a scale of 1-10 I give it 1,000.

Since it is such a great book we read it again in the seventh grade. This book was a great book yet it was very sad to learn how some people struggled during that time. This book teaches on how you should cherish the things you have and not take them for granted. It showed how people were treated back then during the war. It toled of how Hitler treated the Jewish people even though they never even did anything. It was a great book and taught us a lot of the values of life as in the book all the people had to deal with all deaths of family and friends looking forward to their own death as well. We recommend this book to everyone because it can teach everyone a thing or two.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent Review: Loiws wrote Number the Stars, related to the relationship between the Danish and the Danish Jews. She started with the relationship between a Danish family and a Danish Jewish family. Three girls watch soldiers while they are playing. Those soldiers speak broken Danish with a German accent and also speak German. Those girls are afraid of those German soldiers, so are their families. German soldiers are everywhere in Denmark. The characters talk about their past life in Denmark and the present one. Also, they also talk about their brave king, Christian X, who rides his horse around every day. Furthermore, they show great respect for their king. Someday a girl goes to a Jewish shop, but it is closed, and the sign is written in German. She tells her mother, and then her family and her Jewish friend's family are worried because the German know where the Danish Jews live. Then, the Danish family helps the Danish Jews run away from the brutal German soldiers. That girl hides her Jewish friend's Star of David and keeps it because the Star of David is a symbol of Judaism, about which the author does not talk a lot. Peter, a character in the story, is always busy, and helps the Jews escape in the story. We never know why he is busy until he tells that he joins the Resistance and so does his bride, who is killed by some German soldiers. Later, the Danish family help the Danish Jewish family reach a safe place. Those characters talk about the sea, Sweden, food, funeral and the like. When everything is done, a fisherman tries to take the Danish Jewish people to Sweden. Meanwhile, many German soldiers are searching the Danish Jews who want to escape from Denmark. The Jews and the Danes in boats use some kind of chemical to prevent police dogs from finding them. Besides, they spread fish on boats, so the German soldiers who like to be clean do not want to be close to the boats. Finally, those Jews go to Sweden. Lowis Lowry does not formally teach World War Two, but she teaches history through the relationship between the Danish family and Danish Jewish family. We can know their daily lives through the story such as what they eat, how they live, what they think, what they feel, what they lack, who they are afraid of, who they respect, and so forth. Since Number the Star is a historical fiction book, it is certainly related to human history and some imaginary characters. When I read Denmark the Rescue of the Danish Jews online, I was surprised because events which happen in the story really happened in Denmark in World War II, and now many Jews show great respect for Denmark. Also, I read part of nonfiction books; I know more about the Jews and the Nazi. Because the small book is part of the whole story, it can not give me a lot of detailed information on WWII. However, nonfiction books help me understand the subtle sequence of the story. I know the story must be complicated because a big war does not often happen. There must be some reason behind the war. Really I found out some reason why World War Two happened, but I still need more information on the reason why because the history is associated with many factors and events which can not be fully explained in a short while. Many can never be explained, for the human history is complicated and various.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: mentioned about people's feelings Review: This book was written by Lois Lowry and it received the Newbery Medal for this book. She also wrote many other popular books for young readers. This book was also for young readers, and I think it is good for people who are learning English as a second language like me.The setting of this book is in 1943 when World War‡Uwas happened. The scene was Denmark where the Jews were discriminated against by the Nazi occupation. This story is about how the main character, Annemarie will help her friends and Jews. However, I think what the author really wanted to say was little different. I think the main theme of this story was about people's senses. For example, git is much easier to be brave if you do not know everythinghand gTo be brave came more easily if you knew nothingh. This means, it is sometimes better that you donft really know about something, even if you want to. Also sometimes people can act bravely if people donft know everything. The author mentioned about these senses sevral times in this story. Therefore if you read this book more deeply and carefully, you can find out that the author wanted to mentiond about not only the horror of war but also people's senses.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: That's a great book!!Exactly!! Review: While I was reading this book, I was also able to move my mind. When she creid, I creid, too, and when she was nervouse to hide from the soldirers, I was also confused and worried. I think that this book has very real description and exepression that much. Actually, I could feel so scare, but ecxactly enjoy because I felt that I was in the situation. And, the story was very excited me to read whole book. During reading the book, there were too many interested things. In particulr, I like the scene that she runs to give her uncle a packge, which is about secret, without showing to the enomies. Well, it was enough me to enjoy the book. Actually, I really want to recommend the book. Especially, it will be great to children. It was not hard to read and not boring. Also, if children read it, I'm sure that they can learn and feel something from a little brave girl.
