Rating: Summary: Number the Stars book review Review: Number the Stars By: Lois Lowry Number the Stars is a book about the Holocaust. It takes place in Denmark during the 1940s. There are 2 girls that are best friends named Anne Marie and Ellen. Ellen is Jewish and the Nazis were invading their neighborhood and taking all of the Jewish people to concentration camps. Ellen's parents left for a safer country and Ellen stayed with Anne Marie and her family. The book is very good and wonderful to read. It is a quick read but very worthwhile. I think the book teaches a very good lesson. The moral of the story is: no matter what someone's religion is doesn't mean they are a bad person. We need to look past what people believe in and realize the type of person they are. I recommend this book to all ages. It has a great lesson and is a great story.
Rating: Summary: awsome book this one you have to read(for all ages) Review: This book was great! It explained how the time during WWII realy was. The Jews where treated very bad. They shouldn't do that to people of different culters. I think that everyone should be treated the same! I thought that it was neat that Annemarie was quick in ripping the neckless of of Ellen's neck beacuse she didn't want the men to see it. That was my favoite part of the book. The book tells that Annemarie's family and Ellen's family are from different culters and still best friends. Thoes two familys where not predious people. The way that they saved the jewish familys was so nice. Peter risked his life for all of thoes people. He was very brave . Annemarie's family was also. This was an awsome book! Read it please !
Rating: Summary: A beautifully written account of beating the Final Solution Review: Number the stars is a beautifully written account of the Danish people's humane and dangerous determination to save their Jewish citizens from Hitler's Third Reich during World War II. The Final Solution did not have any success in Denmark because of the beliefs that this country held in their hearts. This book is an excellent introduction to the horrors of WWII without illustrating the shocking accounts too graphically. As an adult who has done a lot of reading about this terrible time in history, I found this book to be exquisite and touching. I believe that it is a topic that should be introduced at about age twelve, a very critical time of life for children. This is a perfect book for opening the eyes of adolescents: it will provoke questions that will need to have answers. A young person reading this book should have someone they can talk to about these terrible events.
Rating: Summary: Two thumbs up! Review: I first read this book in 4th or 5th grade, and I love it now, at the age of 15. It's the story of a courageous Danish girl, Annemarie, who wanted to help save her Jewish friend Ellen. The ingenuity and persistence that she and the other Resistance members used to thwart the Nazis were inspiring. Of course, there were losses. The story did end quite abruptly, but what would Annemarie have done in the two years before the war ended besides wait? Also, whatever happened to Ellen and her family? I've outgrown the book a little, but I still treasure it. It had so much historical background that I had to remind myself that the characters weren't real. Don't we all need a friend like Annemarie who would risk death for us? Buy it, you'll like it.
Rating: Summary: good BOOK Review: I think the book was great. It touched me at the end. I love it!
Rating: Summary: a must read book Review: This story is set in Denmark in 1943, during World War II. During that time Denmark was under Nazi occupation. The story tells about the life of two very close friends, Annemarie Johansen and Ellen Rosen, and their families. Living in Denmark during that time was very difficult. Nazi soldiers were on every street corner. There were food shortages and they were required to darken their windows every evening. One day, the Jewish families received word that the Germans were going to relocate all the Jews in Denmark. Since the Rosens were Jewish, Mr. and Mrs. Rosen were takin into hinding. Ellen went to live with the Johansens and pretended to be a part of the Johansen family. A few days later, Mrs. Johansen took her two daughters and Ellen to visit Uncle Henrik. The rest of the story is about the tremendous courage of Annemarie, Mrs. Johansen, Uncle Henrik, and Peter Neilsen and the trouble they endured to help their friends. I really enjoyed this book. It was very moving, suspenseful, and sad. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. I highly recommend reading this book.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read! Review: This was a great book, filled with lots of adventure. It was about a Jewish girl who stays with friends of the family. First, and acted like she was part of their family so then she would'nt have to go to a concentration camp, and to stay free from Nazi attack. She stays with many different families. She has faced many fears on her travel to stay free, she has been in the same house as a Nazi solder looking for Jews to capture. After the war she later heard that her parents had died in concentration camps.
Rating: Summary: Number The Stars Review: Number The Stars is a book about Annemarie Johansen and her family trying to help a Jewish family escape from the Nazis. I liked this book because it was based on fact. I also enjoyed it because it was scary to read how the Nazis really treated the Jews. I can't believe how mean they treated them. I was impressed by how brave the resistance group was. Anyone who liked Jacob's Rescue, Fredrich, or stories about the Nazi's should read this book. Overall, I think this book was very entertaining and educational to read.
Rating: Summary: A deeply satisfying book Review: This is children's literature at its very best: straightforward, intelligent, uplifting. This story of human decency in the face of adversity is all the more satisfying because it is based on true historical events. I recommend it most highly.
