Ellen Rosen knew the feeling! When the story Number The Stars took place, Ellen Rosen and her friend Annemarie Johansen were ten years old. Ellen was a Jew who had black hair, brown eyes, was short, and a little bit fat. On the contrary, Annemaire was Christian, blond , had blue eyes, was tall and had long legs. The book is telling about the life of the Jews and the non-Jews at the time of the Holocaust and both of them had bad lives, except for the Nazis. These two girls had many good times and happiness, although it was very bad time for all. This is one of the best books about the Holocaust and like most of them it is a true story. Ellen and Annemaire was best friends and they still remain as good friends forever.

The sweet memories before the war could appear only in the heads of Annemarie Johansen and her best friend Ellen Rosen, a Jew. The year is 1943, Copenhagen, Denmark. The Johansens and the Rosens live in a small apartment building in a typical Copenhagen neighborhood; small shops, kids playing in the street, parents on their ways to work. But something doesn't seem right. More and more Jewish shops close, Jews get fired, and laws are passed forbidding Jews to do almost everything. Ellen's family is in big trouble. It's now up to Annemarie and her family to save their dearest friends. What will happen? Will the Rosens survive? Will Annemarie will be brave enough? Will she see her best friends again? This book is talking about rescuing. The Johansens are trying their best to save this innocent Jewish family. They are risking their lives to approach their goal and dream: to see their friends smiling again. The danger does not matter now. They are ignoring the risk of being killed by the Nazis. "Friends will take care of them, that's what friends do." Kindness, love, compassion, and caring for their friends are the characteristics that make the Johansens rescuers, true heroes. I think that this is a very important book to read and I recommend it because it gives us a very important massage about the Holocaust and true heroes that fought to end it. You can't ignore such an important topic. It's amazing that some people don't learn a lesson from it. Today, there are smaller Holocausts happening all over the world and there are rescuers who are there to help these people. If all people had ignored the Holocaust, there would be no rescuers. Think about it, what would happen to the Jewish people then?
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Number the Stars Review: I really enjoyed this book and thought it was one of the best books i have read. It has alot of adventure and suspense. It really told the story of how hard it was to be Jewish during World War II. It helped learn about all the underground newspapers and people hid them away in their basements, attics, and boats. It told how they fooled the Nazis and their search dogs by going into the life of a little girl and telling her adventure and how her best friend helped her hide away and not get caught.

In the beginning of the book, it was a little boring. In the middle of the book, it was okey. But then when you get to the end of the story, it starts to get interesting because you will find out what happened in the story. I also enjoyed this book because of the names of the characters. That is why I give this book five stars.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Number The Stars Review: This is an exciting, interesting read for kids of all ages. I shared this book in a classroom as a substitute teacher and didn't get to finish it. However, one of the students bought it for me and gave it to me as a gift! It really makes you think what, not only the adults, but the children went through during the Nazi regime as well. It also shows that children have great courage and will risk everything for a friend. I recommend this to anyone who can get their hands on it! And you can here! You'll never forget it. Best of all, adults, read it and share it with your favorite child. They will thank you for it!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Number the Stars Review: It was about a yong girl, her family, & her friend trying to survive WW2.I think that it starts out diffrent then most, books it starts with a race. That is stopted abruptly by 2 German soldiers. You wouldn't believe some of the truble that, Annemarie, & Ellen get in to. I think this book didn't take for-ever to start, & it didn't drag on, & on.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A wonderul telling of a less-known Holocaust story Review: Although I have read many accounts of the Holocaust, I only read this one recently. Following up from a thanks to the Danes that my Jewish Community had last Spring, I can say this book really captures the experience of the Danes--both Jews and non-Jews--during the Holocaust. Told from the point of view of a young girl, who is not Jewish, it gives a unique perspective. Further, it tells of a country in which the people bonded together to assist the Jews and help them to escape. Aspects of the Danish Resistance are also covered, as well as an important lesson for DURING the war: the less you know, the better. This is no longer the case about the Holocaust: we must all learn about it, even the "small" stories.
