Rating: Summary: Slow but good. Review: I admire the feeling and the power of the words, being a Jew myself, but I can't read books in an hour unless they are fast enough to keep me in suspense. This took me a week, on and off, to read it completely. I admire this book's description, I felt like I was really there watching Ellen and Annemarie's mothers sipping their hot water and herbs in the kitchen. I could visualize the scene in which little sister Kirstie complained about her shoes, made out of fish skin. I admire the perfect description of Ellen's generosity, her shyness, her honesty. But the story wasn't really entrancing enough to get me to the end. I admire the author's purpose and the afterword, but all in all this is not a great book.
Rating: Summary: Number the Stars tells a story of true friendship Review: Number the Stars is a wonderful novel of Annemarie Johansen who is brave and has a Jewish best friend named Ellen Rosen. Ellen's parents leave and promise to meet Ellen later because if they stay they will surely get killed. Annemarie and her family take Ellen in when the Nazi's invade their small town of Copenhagen, Denmark. So Annemarie and her mother and little sister Kirsti go to her Uncle Henrik's house. He is a Danish fisher and can give escape Jews a boat ride to Sweden where it is safe from the Nazi's. There Annemarie finds out facts that she never knew about the Nazi's war against Jews and has life endangering experiences, but is brave and finds the courage to save the life of her beloved friend Ellen and many more innocent Jews in the process. All in all Number the Stars is a heart warming story of two best friends doing everything in their power to save each other from harm's way.

Rating: Summary: a good mix of best friends and ww2 Review: I had to read this book for my reading class.I thought what a drag !, was I surprised. We had to read one chapter a night, I ended up reading three. This book is about best friends who join the fight for freedom for Jewish people. The end of the book is happy, but also sad. I wanted to keep reaing the book and didn't want it to end. If you want to read a fictional book on a real topic, you should definitely read this book.
Rating: Summary: Beth Sexton's Exceptional Book Reveiw on Number the Stars Review: "Number the Stars" is about the Holocaust,a mass killing of the Jews.I really liked it because the main characters were kids.Their family and them live in Denmark, and the Nazis were taking their food and money.Their cousin lives across the ocean where there weren't any Nazis.I recommend that you read this book to find out if they can escape the Nazis.
Rating: Summary: A book review of "Number the Stars" Review: This is a must read book. I've read Number the Stars two times. It's a gripping page turner. You'll never want to put this book down. Annemarie and Ellen live with their parents in two small apatments in Copenhagen, Denmark, during World War II. At one point in the story Annemarie was running through the woods to give her uncle a device to help him smuggle Ellen and her parents to a safer place because they where Jewish. Then she was stopped by two soliders and their dogs. Will Annemarie get to her uncle in time? If you like a rapidly intense story you have to read Number the Stars.
Rating: Summary: Number the Stars Review Review: Jennifer Drewrey, Kim Hollowell, Elizabeth Klepzig This was a good book. I would recomend this to a fourth grade reading teacher, to read to her class. It has valuable information about the Holocaust, and World War II, written from a childs point of view. We liked how the authors use of simple language and straigh forward content. It allows you to see the affect of the war on a child, and their families. The detail was written so that a child could understand. There was not a lot of goury detail of the war, but it was enough so that a child could get a visual picture of the story.
Rating: Summary: A must read book! Review: This book is an intertaining story of a Jewish girl, Ellen, who is hidden from the Nazis by a Danish friend, Anne Marie and her family. The developing relationship between the two girls leads to a strong bond that endures through difficult times. Anticipation increases as the Nazis move closer! You'll want to keep reading! This is an excellent book to incorporate cultural diversity and character development into your classroom. This era in history is fascinating and is an excellent outlet for integrating social studies as well as language arts. A time line would be an excellent activity to track the Nazi movement throughout WWII.
