Summary: Number the Stars
Review: Number the Stars takes place during world warII, in Copenhagen,Germany. Annmarie Johnasen and her family are trying to protect her best friend Ellen from the Nazi. Ellen is living with the JOhnsen unitl the war is over.
They must travel to Annemarie's ucnle farm in the forest. Then they must try to transport Jews to Sweden without getting caught, or there will serve pusinment for all involed.
I enjoyed this book. It almost made you feel the tention and suspense. The description of all the characters, and specially the Nazi soliders were remarkable. This must be one of the only non-fiction book that describes one of the worst tragdies in the world history the best.
I highly recommend this book to anyone with a love for history. This book will take you back and experince the trauma, or to anyone who loves suspense.
The best thing about this book is that its partly true. Lois Lowry wrote this story in dedication to her friend that lived in Copehagen during the war. Even though that the characters are fiction that doesn't make the story any worst.

Summary: Lives in the Balance
Review: This book provides a wonderful opportunity for both kids and parents to read a good story together and study history from a children's perspective.

I always enjoyed reading historical novels, even as a kid, and my daughter, who isn't real crazy about reading, is beginning to change her mind because this story speaks to her. That it takes place in a country she never heard of before isn't relevant.

This is no fairy tale-it's the story of two Danish families, friends before the war, one Jewish and one Christian, who fight the effects of the German invasion of their country and the subsequent attempt to eliminate the Jewish population.

Through the pages of this book, we are given the story of the Rosens and the Johansens, who, on the eve of the Jewish New Year in 1943, wisely act to avert tragedy. The Rosens are blessed by the knowledge that the Nazis are beginning to move in and not paralyzed by fear into inaction. The Johansens are blessed by the knowledge that, as Danes, they could do nothing less but protect their friends and fellow Danes.

There are some scary moments, certainly, but not so frightening that children should avoid this book. Some books can be read without parents nearby; this one I recommend be read either by or with parents because some explanation of history is helpful.

One of the aspects of this book that I particularly liked was how it helps children to think and spot upcoming events.

At one point, for example, there's a reference to the Star of David necklace worn by one of the children. As the German soldiers barge into the Johansen home where the Jewish girl is hiding in plain sight, my daughter exclaimed that someone should hide the necklace before the soldiers find it. That's exactly what happens-the girls remove the necklace and the Germans are, temporarily, fooled into leaving them alone.

Luckily, the Johansens know that they've been granted a only a temporary reprieve, and so the rest of the story tells of Ellen Rosen's escape, along with most of the rest of Denmark's Jews, to Sweden and safety.

There are just enough ordinary details--the annoying younger sister, life in the shadow of a past tragedy--to leaven the story about the Nazis.

While the characters are fictional, the story, of course, is not, and so it is a great way for children to feel, rather than just hear, about the lives of people who fall victim to brutality and what individuals can do to combat evil.

I can't think of a better lesson for children to learn. Or grownups.

Summary: Number the stars was interesting to read..
Review: Number the stars is a great book for kids ages 8-14 who wish to read about life through the eyes of a girl who is friends with a Jewish girl during The Holocaust of the 1930s-1940s. It decribes how it felt to go through all of this pain and how it felt to go through having your friend taken away from you.

Summary: Zelda's Review
Review: Number the Stars was a pretty good book. Although some parts were sad and may have made me realize certain things that happened around WWII, I still liked it . It's hard to describe the way I felt about it though. I mean, I liked it , but some parts of it were just slow moving and sad. That is why I only give it three stars. It really did make me realize what many people went through during these times, especially Jewish people. I think that it is important to know these things, not only because it is an important part of our history but because it can make people realize that our world isn't perfect, has never been perfect and never will be perfect. As I have said, this book has made me realize a lot of things. But that is not the only thing that books are supposed to do. Books are also supposed to enlighten you, and interest you. And, honestly this book didn't do that for me. However, I do not want to discourage other people from reading this. It is definitely an easy read; some adults could finish it in a day. The fact that Ellen and Annemarie may not see each other for a while was a shock to me. Although, I did like that about this book because not all books do have happy endings. Since this book is mainly directed towards young children, it can help them realize that, as I said, the world is not perfect. It can give them a taste of what some people went through in this important part of history.

Summary: A Timeless Tale
Review: I read a first class book this month, Number The Stars by Lois Lowry, a newbery award winning author. It was very meaningful. A Christian family was good friends with a jewish family during the Nazis invasion. In fact, Ann Marie was a top friend with Ellen Rosen. It is up to Ann Marie and her family to save the Rosen's from being prisoners of the Nazis. This is a book you won't want to put down. It is full of tension that will make you shoot right out of your seat. Ann Marie and her family hide the Rosen's in different places to keep them safe from harm. The Nazis get suspicious but their loyal friendship gets through it. It is a very moving book with an important lesson;friendship is more important then people's differences. I enjoyed this book and I hope you will too...

Summary: How many stars can I put...
Review: When the Nazi soldiers march in Copenhagen, 2 young girls are about to discover what it means to be Christian and Jewish in the early 1940s. To save their Jewish countrymen, many Danes willingly defied the Nazis and helped their friends. This book tells a fictional story about one such situation.

This is an incredible book about a forgotten part of the Jewish Holocaust. I believe strongly in teaching about this event so that people always remember it and will not repeat it. We all know what happened in Germany, but this story does not go to the concentration camps. It instead shows a side not often seen of some of the true heroes of WWII.

Why 5 stars?:
We need to teach about such an impactful event in our history or else risk repeating it. This book tells a wonderfully crafted story with many accurate details about an often forgotten part of WWII. It is appropriate for fourth graders and up. With short chapters and numerous published teaching guides, it lends itself very well as a teaching material and literature support for a study of WWII.

Summary: Number The Stars Is The Money $$$$$$ By Amadeus
Review: This book is written by Lois Lowry and the title is, 'Number the Stars'. It is a story about two childhood freinds that were growing up in Copenhagen, Denmark. The story takes place durind the long years of Germany occupation of their country during World WarII.
Denmark surrendered to Germany in 1940 and the story mainly takes place around 1943. I like the way she wrote using her friend's stories about her life there as a child and how her family was abused so by the Nazis because they didn't think of them as real people.
The part that seemed to really keep me into the book was how the Swedish scientists helped the Jews along with some of the Daish people get the Jews across the water and into Sweden.
It was amazing how people will bend over to help another human beins to escape death of such cruel and unusual means just because of your nationality or religion.
