Summary: Great, but not like the others...
Review: Let me start by saying this novel was great! However, the only reason I loved it was because I knew the series. I've grown up reading Tiger and Del (several times for each book in fact). Yet it seems this latest addition was geared more to the beginners of the series. Look, I guarantee no new reader can understand Tiger's history with Stall-Yasta unless they've read the first four! Plus, it really interrupted the story for us veterans when Tiger would say to Del, "Do you remember that time when we....?" and then go on to over-explicitly describe the event. If you're a newcomer start with the first four (you'll read 'em all in a week), and if you're a veteran look forward to the next novel of these two! All in all, it was great, and a good treat to see these two in action again.

Summary: What a disappointment
Review: Most of the book is summary. There is very little action, and what there is of it is either mildly unbelievable or just generally absurd. I enjoyed the first four books tremendously, and expected the same from this book. Unfortunately, it was not delivered.

Summary: Many words, thin plot, and sadly a summary of the previous 3
Review: Sadly, the latest Del and Tiger Novel is not substantial enough for a novel. Sword-Born would, however, have made an excellent short story.

The initial two thirds is a replay of the Del-and Tiger-bantering so familiar from the previous novels in the series. Unfortunately, the bantering does not drive the story-line at all, all we get is a replay of "what has gone before", and a rather feeble plot with political correct statements about gender and sexuality.

But then the real book begins. The last third is a good page-turning read with interesting twists to the plot and many new ideas. But not enough to make Sword-Born worth the time it takes to read.

Now, if you are a fan of Jennifer Roberson (as I am), and like the Tiger-and -Del series, this is my recommendation: Wait for the sequel!

Do not buy it in hardback, do not buy it in paperback, borrow it from a friend, because this book is certainly not worth buying!

Summary: An excellent series
Review: Sword-born was my first experience with Jennifer Roberson's writing, and I have to dissagree with the unhappy fans who thought she reiterated too much information from previous novels. I found it to be the perfect combination of background and new story to get me into the series. This was my first time around with Tiger and Del and I have to admit I was hooked from the beginning. I enjoyed Sword Born completely and bought the other four books the same day. I'm not sure that I would have been able to keep up with what was going on without the explanations of their past together. I highly reccommend this series.

Summary: Have Sword Will Travel?
Review: The Dynamic Duo, Tiger & Del are back and in trouble as usual. When a bloodthirsty, driven northern girl met easy going, happy-go-lucky southern boy it was a match made in hell. Little did they know that their relationship had what it takes to go the distance. When they fell in love, neither assasins, bounty hunters, afreet, holy wars, prophecies, gods, pirates or death could keep them apart. Now they are going in search of Tiger's heritage, which turns out to be a double-edged sword. On one hand there's his posible cold-hearted relatives, which he's not sure he wants. And on the other there's magic, which he considers a fate worse than death. Choices like these makes a man appretiate his lot in life. There are advantages to being an orphan.

Summary: Very enjoyable but not as good as the others
Review: This book is definitely worth reading, even for someone who hasn't read the earlier ones. Still, it has less action, and the plot becomes almost mundane at times, particularly when compared to the fast paced prequels. Granted, it is more subtle than the last ones, but it pays dearly for that subtlety. It has considerably fewer great moments than its predecessors, but the moments are still good, especially when you read them in light of what has come before. The main reason I give

this book four stars instead of three is that it's a very good book, though only decent in regard to the others, and also because it had the feel of a prologue. I believe Robertson has great plans for what she laid out in Sword-Born, and that Sword-Born will serve as a foundation for an excellent sequel. Read this, but only after you've read the earlier ones.

Review: This book is the first i have read of this series. It has a great plot. I love it.

Summary: Great! But, magic?
Review: This is a great book, it ranks up there with all of the others that Jennifer Roberson has written, she is a master story-teller, and she continues it. The first four books left Tiger and Del hanging and allowed one to make up ones own opinion as to what happened, but this account is very anticipated story gives an account that leaves the avid Roberson reader satified. the only aspect that brings the story down is Tiger without his sword and with, magic? Though Roberson handles this very well a Tiger without his sword, just doesn't seem like Tiger. Tiger's wanderlust is a great idea, and I fully recommend this book.

Summary: Something's missing...
Review: This was a good book, but not nearly up to the fantastic standards Roberson has set in the past. I found it difficult to like ANY of the characters. In the past, Tiger's laid-back approach has balanced Del's intensity. I found that balance completely gone, and Del relegated to a poor second place in SWORD-BORN. This was a book about Tiger, told by Tiger and Del plays a very secondary role. This was disappointing to me, since the reparte and arguments that made the previous books so entertaining are sorely lacking this time 'round.(I also missed the stud's antics!). Hopefully, both Tiger AND Del(and the stud) will be back in their usual action-packed sword-swinging roles in SWORD-SWORN.
