Summary: Good - but not quite as good as the others.
Review: A nice story of the continuing adventures of Tiger and Del. Interesting setting on Santorini with drama and mysticism. Its been so long since I read the 1st 4 books, that I needed the flashbacks to remind me what happened. I guess that a "what has happened before" preface would have been more effective for me. The story needs more exposition as to what has happened and why. Is the 1st mate a castrato? What happens when the mages grow old? What is Tiger's Mom like? What will happen to the first mate? Since the next book isn't out yet, I guess I'll reread the 1st 4 books if I get a chance. After all, the series is a keeper.

Summary: No lapse!
Review: As soon as you pick up 'SwordBorn' you get sucked in. It is as if you just put down 'SwordBreaker' 5 minutes before you started SwordBorn. The story does not have as many Dances as the previous ones but there is more mystery and tension. Tiger and Del still have their fun banter back and forth; especially on the first chapter. I highly suggest reading this book as well as the prior one. Jennifer Roberson is an amazing writer and it is always enjoyable to read anything she has written.

Summary: What fun to revisit old friends in a new setting!
Review: As usual, well and solidly written. The relationships between the characters make it all worth while. These are characters who interact, and in more than matters of physical contact. It is so often a limitation of fantasy fiction that characters are limited to either lusting after or loathing each other. Not counting the ones who simply kill each other outright. Ms. Roberson's characters have believable relationships in unbelievable situations. No small feat for a write to pull off!

Summary: Not as good as the first few, but more than passable.
Review: From the beginning this series has grabbed me and continues to do so with this book! Tiger and Del are great to read about. I wasn't able to put down all the first books. This book, however, did not grab me as much for the third quarter. The first two and the last were great and had me reaching for more, but inbetween was a huge drag. I would reccomend this book to anyone who loves a good read!

Review: Great book. Not quite as good as the first few but was still very interesting.

Summary: Just overlook the story, that's all...
Review: Honestly, after the very first book of the series [Sword-Dancer] which had a refreshingly unimposing story to it, most of the Tiger and Del novels have had highly artificial, overdone plots involving all kinds of inappropriate forces. There, it's said. That would usually make for a pretty average series if not for the main characters, Tiger and Del. Not to mention Tiger being a very enjoyable narrator, the two always seem to be extremely real people, moreso than most any characters I've seen in a novel, and their relationship is terribly entertaining. Moreover, the fifth book in the series adds a new 'central' character, Prima, who indulges in the Sword- series' best activity: having long chats with Tiger on life in general. Great reading, though I very strongly suggest reading the first four books before this one. On the downside, the stud is rather absent in this one, which sucks. [err.. he's a horse, mind you.]

Summary: Enjoyable
Review: I confess, I've had this book for several months and just now got around to reading it. I can't put the thing down once I start so work keeps getting in the way. I disagree with the other reviewers in that Ms Roberson spent too much time reviewing. I think a little review frequently helps keep a book going. Now, if you're like some people and wait and read the entire series at one time, or only read a few things and so can remember everything about a character, more power to you. However, I read several books a month and like to have a reminder when I return to a series that I've missed for a while.

I recommend this as well as all the "Dancer" books. I' looking forward to the next one. Maybe I'll actually get to read it as soon as I buy it.

Summary: Still great for a Sword-Dancer lover...
Review: I cut my teeth on the originals in the Sword Dancer series, and, to me, Sword-Born does the series justice. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!
