Rating: Summary: Good, but incredibly confusing Review: I like this book, but virtually everything confuses me. How did the Eye of Palpatine start again? What's the deal with Cray? And that entire thing with Han and Leia searching for that weird place was too much for my simple mind. And how did the Jawas etc. get onto the ship? All that aside, the parts I understood were very well written.
Rating: Summary: Lost in Space ! Review: I truly wish I had not bothered to buy this book. At 11, perhaps I'm not old and literate enough to fully appreciate Hambly's work; though I did understand and moderately enjoy reading Planet of Twilight.I found it difficult to concentrate on this and at times, I even felt like skim-reading and skipping pages - something that I never thought I would feel like doing with a Star Wars novel. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone my age. You don't have read this to follow with the continuity of the other novels. All you need to know is: Boy meets Ghost. Boy and Ghost fall in love. Ghost becomes Girl. But Girl no longer has Ghostly powers. So Girl runs away from Boy. Boy goes looking for Girl. But Girl simply doesn't wany Boy anymore. Perhaps I'll come back to this in a couple of years but I'm not holding my breath. For now I think I'll stick to Zahn, Stackpole and Crispin.
Rating: Summary: Good Star Wars novel if it suits your taste.... Review: When I first started reading this book, I had just finished re-reading the Jedi Academy Trilogy by Kevin J. Anderson. I'm not sure if it was because I was tired or what, but the beginning of the book confused me. However, I was able to pick up Hambly's writing style as the book went on. I admit, the main characters (of Luke, Han, Leia, Threepio, and Mara Jade...) don't seem like they did in the movies (or Zahn's novels), but Hambly did not do that bad of a job bringing them into her story. The introduction of Callista was very interesting. The story is structured well and has a different flavor than the other Star Wars novels. It is not as galaxy wide as the other books and the story is kept in two locations throughout much of the book. If you have a short attention span, this book would not really be for you. And in case anyone is confused about why Jawas are Gamorreans are speaking Basic, it is because of their Imperial indoctrination. Overall this book was a fun read with an original storyline, even if the beginning was a little hard to get into. If you are not conviced to buy it, at least give it a try by checking it out at a library. ***1/2 stars (out of *****).
Rating: Summary: Not The Best SW book for sure Review: Callista should just go back to the past. Some of it was realy confusing, but it was ok. Since when did jawas speak english????? Luke needs to marry Mara, or just forget the female race. If you want to read books not so boring and draged out that are shorter, but great read all of the Young Jedi Knight series by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebcca Moseta.
Rating: Summary: Not worthy of the Star Wars universe Review: Hambly completely destroyed the characters in this book. The way she portrayed almost all of the characters was horrible. And throughout the entire book it had kind of a Star Trek feel to it, using terms that are Star Trek, not Star Wars. Hambly underestimated Mara Jade's character and made her look weaker than she really is; she obviously doesn't understand the concept of the Force, making Luke's character weak; C-3PO wasn't as prissy as he usually is, making him seem like a normal droid; Han Solo just wasn't Han Solo; and the ending was horrid because Luke isn't the type of person to fall in love, at least not the way Hambly did it. The way she portrayed the creatures on board the dreadnaught was just plain wrong. The plot was weak and had no life to it, unlike any of Michael Stackpole's or Timothy Zahn's books. It was extremely boring, and straight out stupid in many parts, and the only reason I finished it was because I never stop reading a book in the middle. I was actually disgusted with it right from the beginning, and the slightest indication of something interesting was more than a hundred pages into the book. Sorry, but Hambly just didn't capture that Star Wars feel that would satisfy any reader.
Rating: Summary: Book? What book? Review: Now, don't get me wrong... I love Star Wars books, but this one was ridiculous. Here's what I don't like... Callista had her chance to live, she lived. Yeah she was brave giving her life to save hundreds of others, she's DEAD, the end! OK, she needs to pass on to the Force, where she belongs. You have one life to live, you live it and you die 2. I did not like the way Ms. Hambly viewed Mara Jade, as having a relationship with Lando. Those two just don't mesh. 3.Irek and Roganda Ismaren didn't even scare me. I never thought 'What if Leia doesn't make it?' 'What if they...'NO SUSPENSE!
Rating: Summary: Please, if you value your sanity, DON'T READ THIS BOOK!! Review: I don't even know where to begin with what was wrong with this book. It was so boring. Ms. Hambly has somehow managed to make even the most beloved of SW characters annoying. And am I alone when I ask WHAT WAS GOING ON?! I couldn't even bring myself to finish this book it was so bad. And why did Luke constantly leave C3PO alone? Those jawas would have ripped him apart for scrap metal in seconds (and why weren't they re-enacting battle scenes like those freaky plant-people?). If only there were a way to stop Barbara Hambly from EVER writing a SW book again. What was George Lucas thinking when he allowed this filth to get published? DO NOT READ THIS BOOK - EVER!
Rating: Summary: I was not impressed with this book at all. Review: I had a hard time staying with this book, because it was so slow. I've read most of the books, except the X-wing series, Hard Merchandise, and I Jedi. I've liked every book I've read. She just could'nt keep the book exciting. I would get real bored with it. I had a hard time finishing it, in fact the only reason I finished itwas because I wanted to read all the books. I would not recommend this book to anyone. I don't know , maybe Zahn really spoiled me.
Rating: Summary: This is a fast-paced, exciting novel! Review: O.K. This was a great, fast-paced novel. The main characters are Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. There are three new characters introduced, Cray Mingla, a computer scientist who is very strong in the force. Nichos, her fiancee, who died a year ago and Cray made him into a human looking droid, and Calista, a decades old Jedi Knight, who died onboard the huge Dreadnaught, the Eye of Palpatine when trying to stop it. She trapped her spirit inside the gunnery comuters. It is run by an automated, artificial intelligence system, called the Will. In order to stop the Will, Luke, Cray, Nichos, C-3PO, and Calista must all work together. Luke falls in love with Calista, and has to come to terms with having to destroy the spaceship which is keeping her "alive." The ending has a surprising twist to it.
Rating: Summary: This book is just ridiculous Review: Ok, I love Star Wars. But this book is awful. It is long, boring, and confusing as well. I wish I could have given it no stars. Callista is such a ridiculous character. She's a computer for God's sake. I could take that if she had ANY chemistry with Luke. Frankly, I think he was bored with the plot line just like me, and she was just there. I guess you could read this book if you wanted to laugh. The vegetable people(literally, think cucumber people) are pretty funny. Wow. The stupidity abounds. You know the book is bad when you wish a universe shattering explosion would eliminate all traces of the novel. Eeewww.
