Rating: Summary: Would have made a great comic book Review: This was an interesting story, but it would have made a better comic book or short story. We certainly did not need to waste time reading 400 pages of this. I feel bad for Hambly, but maybe she should read some Timothy Zahn books before she writes another Star Wars book.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST STAR WARS BOOK Review: You guys who think this book is bad, well you are idiots! This is the one of the best SW books I've read, and I'm only 13! (AND DON'T WORRY ABOUT LUKE, BECAUSE HE'S GETTING MARRIED TO MARA, SO SHUT UP AND STOP WHINING ABOUT CALLISTA!(Vision of the Future)) Callista is one of the best charachters. Oh, and for you that say Luke should've gone in a bacta tank, WELL IF YOU'D READ THE BOOK CORRECTLY, there were none! I admit the Leia-Han plot was hard to follow, but I don't like Han anyways. THIS IS A GREAT BOOK! (I've read my copy more than 20 times.) Callista rules, and so does this book!
Rating: Summary: What may I say? It's just BORING... Review: At first I thought I was being too radical thinking this book is the worst SW novel I read until now and one of the worst books I ever read. Just when I saw the reviews I found out I was right... Many people claimed about the melodrama present in this book. This isn't the problem. The book is simply poorly written. Barbara Hambly many times get lost in environmental description and totally forget the plot. When she returns to it, you already forgot what was going on or, with luck, felt asleep... Where you would expect a good dialogue among the main characters, you find nothing, just thoughts and more environmental descriptions affecting the characters thoughts...I just understood why does she have this style when I saw a RPG/fantasy book written by her: she must be a Tolkien disciple... Calm down, folks, let me finish. She just got the WORST part of Tolkien. This book made me feel like being reading the walk from Bombadil's house to Barrows Down (the only part of Lord of the Rings I really hate) over and over again... just worsened a lot. I'm in the same situation another reviewer mentioned: I began to read this book almost 2 months ago and still haven't finished it. And I usually read a book that size in 1 or 2 weeks. With this one I barely can read 2 or 3 pages each day I bother to get it... About Luke's leg I just didn't undertand why in the heck he didn't use the healing trance shown in other books (at least in Zahn's "Specter of the Past" and "Vision of the Future"). A point about some other reviews: it's interesting that most of the people who claimed "if you didn't understand the plot, go learn English" can't write it with minimal correctness...
Rating: Summary: don't you people get it? Review: I thought this was a good book, yes it was a little confusing at times but i read it twice and understood more. To explain to a reader below me who doesn't know why the Jawas and other creatures were acting like stormtroopers, let me put it simply. The ship, the Eye of Palpitine, is suddenly reactivated because of that little brat that can control machines with the Force. The ship reawakened does what it was programed to do and that is go and get stormtroopers to the glory of the Empire, blah blah blah. The creatures brought on board were brainwashed that's why they were acting like stormtroopers. Back to the story, I especially liked the part about Luke finally finding someone, he deserves it. Callista has some things to work out but when she finds what she is looking for (read Planet of Twilight) they will be together.
Rating: Summary: confusing Review: This book is impossible to follow and overly descriptive. I hate the romance between Luke and goody- goody girl Calista. I want to see him with Mara Jade.
Rating: Summary: This is a good book Review: This is a good book for the brain-dead. The characters are extremely boring. I hate Luke's insessent whining about his leg and the storyline really sucks. The author doesn't know how to write good Star Wars novels.
Rating: Summary: This is bad! Review: This is by far the worst Star Wars book I've ever read. I haven't actually read it all the way through because I am so bored and confused by what is going on. Barbara Hambly really can't get the message across and makes things move along so very slowly. This is a shame, since events in this book greatly shape other books in the series.
Rating: Summary: I normally look at the bright side of things but.... Review: this book SUCKED. I'm sorry, but it does, no question. When I tried to read it... it did not make any sense. Who are the Children? What is the Eye of Palpatine supposed to look like? Why are there Gamorreans, Jawas, and other creatures on board dressed like stormtroopers? And what's up with Luke and his feverish dreams? I can never tell whether what I'm reading is his hallucinations or reality!!! I have barely made it through once, and I didn't understand 99.99% of it. It was extremely boring. It made me queasy to think that Bantam's standards had gone soooooo low as to allow this garbage into the Star Wars universe. I later bought The Courtship of Princess Leia, which restored my faith in Bantam. As for you who have not read the book, SAVE YOURSELVES. It's too late for me but you still have a choice... don't come down this path, it leads to the Dark Side.
Rating: Summary: A Good Story Review: I enjoyed reading this boot and liked the way Liea's character was portrayed, but for myself the end was a bit of a anticlimax.
Rating: Summary: I Love This Book!!!! Review: I don't know what is up with all of the rest of you people, but I personally thought this was one of the best SW books I have ever read. Judging from all of the ???????'s on the page, this book is just misunderstood. I thought the insight into Luke's character was wonderful, and after all, its about time he got a girlfriend. Even though the Luke/Callista subplot is my favorite part, the rest is very good, too. In most books, only one subplot will deal with the Force, but I see both doing it here. That's cool. Overall, this was my favorite book; the ones written afterward (chronologically) don't do it justice (I didn't like Planet of Twilight very much)
