Rating: Summary: Nice story, bad writing Review: The plot was actually not bad, considering that some of the political details meshed well with the rest of the novels and the prequel. Sure, it was yet another massive threat coming to destroy the New Republic, but let's face it...when some authors attempted to stray into other territory, they were trashed (Black Fleet, anyone?). On the other hand, I found the book hard to read. The author's writing style leaves much to be desired. Would it kill her to write in complete sentences? And many of her paragraphs were one sentence long. I found the choppy writing style to be very distracting. Also, I dislike authors who feel the need to have dozens of chapters of a few pages each. It disrupts the flow of the narrative. Despite the gripes about the writing style, it was nice to see the author include references to the other novels in the franchise.
Rating: Summary: Why oh why was it luke X wing Review: This bok is cool i love the way they cannot here when the bome went off.And it had to be Lukes X- Wing.I will say no more as it will spoil it for those of you who have not read this book.
Rating: Summary: GO OUT AND READ THIS BOOK IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY! Review: This is a truly magnificent Star Wars novel. Kristine Kathryn Rusch knows what Star Wars is about. She refers at least obliquely to almost every single Star Wars adventure preceding hers in the timeline of the Star Wars universe. Plus, her villain, Kueller, is perhaps the most dangerous Dark Jedi so far invented in the Star Wars universe. With his droids (or, more specifically, the destruction they caused) gave him incredible amounts of dark side energy. Had he been able to destruct all the droids, he would have gained so much energy that it would have been unbelievable!
Rating: Summary: One of the best Star Wars books so far Review: This book really had my attention from start to finish. The story really pulled me in and I found it difficult to put the book down. The finish is also excellent and could not have been done much better.
Rating: Summary: An unforgetable book that kept my attention. A quick read!! Review: Absolutely an amazing story with ties from the past and leads the saga into a directional future. It was the second to the largest book I've ever read, losing the battle by 40 pages, but I loved every minute of it. A must read for all serious Star Wars fans.
Rating: Summary: 13 Years Review: This has to be one of the best books ever written! I hope Ms. Rusch writes more SW novels.
Rating: Summary: good book. Review: The best parts of this book were the situations that Leia had to deal with--the turmoil in the New Republic--which were very intriguing, as well as the parts where R2D2 and C3PO help save the world (which come right out of the movies). It is absolutely exciting to read their dialogue because they sound exactly as they do in the movies, which is a very remembrance to them. The plot was believeable and I actually liked the book a lot. I would rather give the book a 4.5 rating but I gave it the benefit of the doubt. P.S. I am writing this late at night and my words are jumbled together horribly. The essence of what I am saying is out of the SW books I have read, this is definitely near the top of my list
Rating: Summary: Exciting & full of adventures..sometimes unbelievable though Review: The book was full of action & exciting twist & turns---sometimes, it reaches the point that it is almost impossible & unbelievable. But isn't that how we have known SW all along - because of its magic, the never-ending battle between good & evil & the good winning at the end despite all sacrifices? I found Han's old pals greedy & the Run disgusting -- but again, we have to consider that time changes even the closest of our friends, especially once they are blinded by money at their most depressing hours. The political war is very real & it happens in all governments. I found Meido's character very irritating but very real. He clearly representsl our grandstanding polititcians, taking advantage of issues for their own personal benefits. I also noted the heroic behavior of R2 & C3PO as if they were humans trying to save the galaxy - though they were quite eccentric for droids, don't you think? Fardreamer was like an extra character but played an important role nevertheless in shipping the droids to Telti. In summary, the plot was full of the goold old SW action flicks & adventures. Some events were unbelievable (characters surviving the worst accidents, etc.) and unreal but the difference in SW & real life is that the SW chracters have the privilege of using the "Force" to their advantage while us, real humans, only have gravity.
Rating: Summary: Almost had an accident reading this book! Review: Reading & driving is never a good combination! I simply couldn't put the book down & since I didn't have spare time at home to indulge in reading (kids & all) I decided to do that while driving myself to work. Considering the traffic here in our city, I could read a page while in a full stop. I got so absorbed in the story that I did not notice that I was actually moving & almost hit the car right in front of me! Oh boy, I felt I was one of the SW characters :-) I really find the book exciting & full of adventure & will not be surprised if George Lucas makes this as a sequel to the SW trilogy movie.
Rating: Summary: great book, worthy of the original movies Review: One of the best Star Wars books I have read. The reason is that it is so much like the original movies in how the plot flows (It even has R2 and C3PO scheming to save the galaxy and behaving exactly as they did in the movies). It also has as a main part of the book the political crises the New Republic is facing that Organa Solo - you know her as Leia - has to prevent from breaking up the government. It is all part of Kueller's plan. He is one of Luke's drop outs from the Jedi Academy who has turned to the dark side and developed a plan to destroy the galaxy. It is worthy of the Star Wars Universe.
