Rating: Summary: The Saddest Star Wars Book Yet Review: The story was okay, but I was distracted by the deplorable writing. I would bet lots of money the author didn't have an editor; she knew three grammar rules (and hence made Lando Calrissian use the words who and whom properly) and nothing else. I even found misspelled words in the text! At the end, I felt as though not all questions and loose ends were wrapped up. I also found myself predicting dialogue: I would guess what the next person would say, I'd turn the page, and Bingo, I was right. I also didn't feel like the writing was true to the original movie characters, and there were too many nostalgic references to the movies. Writers such as Zahn, Anderson, and Hambly are much better.
Rating: Summary: Great Book...or Better Review: Personally, I think this book is great. I enjoyed reading it all the way through and through...I think Kristine Kathryn Rusch really outdid herself, I mean this book (I think) should be up there with Zahn and Stackpole. The story line is really great, and overall, I think she writes very, very well. P.S Buy this book you won't regret it, well at least I didn't...
Rating: Summary: The New Rebellion Review: Overall you have to say that this is an enjoyable book allthough I did come away from it thinking, not bad but still not the best I've ever read. The droids were good and as active as ever but I think the storyline is wearing a bit thin now. A new dark Jedi comes on the scene and seems to be more powerfull than ever, Luke sustains an injury but still defeats him. The good thing in this book are the refences to the Jedi Acadamy and occational qoutes: "Do or do not, there is no try." (In a Yoda vioce) A good book but only read it if you feel you have to. Read Zhans Heir to the Empire or Shadows of the Empire to get more enjoyment.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good....Really Review: There are only a few flaws in this novel. The first, is the long set-up. It takes forever for the story to get up to speed. It is that speed, however, that makes this book worthwhile. When the action gets going, this novel is almost second to none of the other SW books (Timothy Zahn excluded because of sheer greatness). Every character finally gets a reasonably exciting adventure in this one, even Leia and the droids! The only other flaws were minor. I wasn't terribly impressed with the fire-breathing Glottalphibs, nor the way in which they were defeated. I didn't much care for the menacing but friendly Thernbee (it seemed a little contrived).I figured out how the bombing occurred rather quickly, which didn't ruin the story. And Finally, Luke seems to do the same things in all of the novels. He gets injured, but still manages to save the day (C'mon writers, there has to be another storyline for Luke). Aside from these minor flaws, it is indeed a good story, and Ms. Rusch did her homework. Numerous references are made to many prior novels (The Jedi Academy Trilogy, Children of the Jedi, Crystal Star, Zhan's first trilogy, and of course, the films). It's not imperative to the story that you've read these books, but it helps some. This book is worth your investment of time to read!
Rating: Summary: The Bomb Review: This book is the bomb of al Star Wars books I have read and I have read a total of 70 different Star Wars books!
Rating: Summary: interesting book Review: The new rebellion is very entretaining book, but is not like the other Star Wars books.A very good character is kueller, because he is not a simple villian, he want to be the only and powerfull jedi, but as always, the villians fail.
Rating: Summary: An uninspired, but still halfway decent Star Wars book. Review: Every now and then I have the displeasure to find out what happens when a writer publishes something that with a little touch up could have been a lot better. The New Rebellion is one such book. The plot was there, the enemies were there, but something is missing. The plot involves yet another Dark Jedi trying to kill everyone in the New Republic by putting a bomb into every droid off the assembly line. It sounds okay, but as the book goes on you realize how impractical this plot is. Kueller is a reasonably frightening, if callow, enemy. He does everything right up to the point when someone tries to stop him. Then he seems to shut down, and allow himself to be slain. The climaz was rather well done, actually, but the rest of the book felt like it was just taking up space. Maybe the book was about a hundred an fifty pages of information crammed into 300. The writing also felt dry at times, like the author knew that the book wasn't turning out properly, but didn't know how to fix it. Indeed, it feels like Rusch knew what the beggining and end of the book were going to be, but didn't have a clue how to connect the two. If you can put up with pieces of dry, boring writing here and there, you can find some fun in this book. Otherwise, you should read the Jedi Academy Trilogy, or The Courtship of Princess Leia.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: Star Wars: The New Rebellion is about the usually cast fighting a new enemy. It is a must for all Star Wars fans.
Rating: Summary: A good effort Review: This novel started with a very intriguing story line. However, when the plot unfolded, I was a little disappointed with how it turned out. I thought the story could have been done better, but nevertheless, it was entertaining to me.
Rating: Summary: new Republic too weak! Review: In this book, the New Repubic seems So weak! I mean, it HAS fought off the Ssi-ruuk, Isard, Thrawn, and countless others. It is tough, and knows how to fight. And yet, they're letting Kueller do as he wants. The same thing could be said about Luke. He's fought Vader, became a Jedi Master, and its not like he's not training anymore, and yet he is nearly overwhelmed by some unknown Dark Jedi. Besides, why are there any dark Jedi at all? I thought the Emperor and his buddies killed 'em all. Anyway, what I want to say is that THE GOOD GUYS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE TOUGHER, not weaklings like they are in this book. The End
