Summary: CAN'T put it down...
Review: I never thought the Jedi Apprentice books would be worth picking up, until I got one one day. I absolutely cannot put them down whenever I get the new one. Each tale is woven with tight suspense. Especially Defenders of the Dead. I don't want to ruin it for anyone, but the ending is amazing and it leaves you completely stunned. I know that when I read it, I just wouldn't believe it until then next book came out, and the next, and the next... And I realized what had really happened. If you have any liking for Star Wars, you are without an important point of view and an amazing series if you do not purchase the Jedi Apprentice books. They are easy to keep up with unlike other series that come out a book a month with 500 page books, and they are full of suspense, adventure, surprises, loyalty, and the aquaintence of new friends.

Summary: GOOD Ending!
Review: This book starts out kinda slow in the beginning, but has a GREAT ending. I was very surprised about it, and so will you! There are many intense situations that require you to really pay attention to what your actually reading. The beginning is basically a "here's what's going on" dialogue, and the middle and end are full of surprises and suspenseful reading! Read this book, or else!

Summary: MUST GET NEXT BOOK
Review: I really love all the JA books! I don't have very many of them yet, only #'s 1,2,3, and 5. I plan on buying the other ones ASAP. But, about the book: this book is a really good book but it made me cry at the end. I think its SOOOO sad the way that Obi-Wan leaves the Jedi. I am hoping they get back together in later books. This book is great except for the ending and the way Obi-Wan betrays Qui-Gon's trust. I won't say anymore except that if Jude Watson reads these she needs to know that the 2 Jedi shouldn't be seperated any longer than possible.

Summary: The most emotional ending of any Star Wars book so far
Review: "Nooooo!" This is what you find yourself saying throughout the entire last half of the book. You'll be ripped apart as you witness the whirlwind of events happening on Melida/Daan. I usually don't feel anything while reading, but in this book, I had the same feeling of desperation you get when watching that big-breasted blond turn the corner in a scary movie and you can see the murderer behind her. If you want to read about Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's early adventures but are daunted by the thought of reading all 9 books, I suggest starting here and reading this, The Uncertain Path, and The Captive Temple. They will show you a side of the two Jedi you would never imagine. But don't think you can read just this one. You will feel a disturbance in the Force until you read the next two as well.

Summary: Wait a minute...this CAN'T be the last page!
Review: When I finished this book I was numb. I couldn't believe what Obi-Wan did. I rated this book 4 stars because of the ending. I have not bought the next book in the series, so I am still waiting untill I can pick it up and read through it in less than an hour. I read this book, like all the others in this series in less than two hours each. This book was OK...but definetly NOT the best. The book had many good parts, like detail and so on, but I still think each book in the series should be LONGER! I've read a lot of other reviews, and lots of people agree with me on the books being too short. Not that they're not worth waiting for until the next one comes out. I can't wait to read the next one! But as I said, this was definetly NOT the best in the series! I hope the next book is better!

Summary: Jedi Apprentice Defenders of the Dead
Review: I don't think this book is as good as any of the others. It is mostly just about Obi-Wan and his Master Qui-Gon Jinn on the planet Melida/Daan where two tribes are constantly fighting one war after another. Obi-Wan makes some friends (as he always does) and meets a group of kids who are coming up with a plan to bring peace to the planet. He then realizes that on Melida/Daan, while staying with this group of kids, he has had more freedom than he has ever had when he was a Jedi. He must decide: Is he to be a Jedi Knight, what he has always dreamed of, or part of this group on Melida/Daan with his new friends and freedom?

Summary: I HATE endings like this!
Review: I LOVE Obi Wan, but in this case I found myself SCREAMING at him! I have read better books in this series! At least w/ a better ending. My friend and I were also screaming at Neild and Cerisai for making Obi-Wan go through w/ it! Anyway, I have a HUGE crush on Mr. Kenobi! I have been a Star Wars fan since I first saw it when I was 5. 7 years and I have never read such a great series! But, if you love Obi-Wan, I recommend you prepare yourself!

Summary: This book would be good, if it wasn't SOOOOO bad.
Review: Terrible, just TERRIBLE. Why can't an author write a bookdesigned for little kids that doesn't write down to them. I don't carewhat your target audience is, but you should always show SOME respect for the reader. The plot wasn't too bad, actually, and the characters were depicted reasonably well. The book falls upon its face when you start to look at it more closely. Characters do things for little or no reason on every other page, ALL of the characters showed an incredible amount of indecisiveness that damages their credibility. I am tired of hearing what Obi Wan and Qui Gon are thinking, and why. A good writer wouldn't have to tell me, I would just understand them from the way they were talking and the way they did things. The ending was just a travesty! A [cough] cliffhanger ending like that was OBVIOUSLY designed to make you buy the next book in the series. If you are under ten, buy the Junior Jedi Knight series. If you have ANY self respect you'll want to buy the Heir to the Empire trilogy, or Dark Tide: Onslaught

Summary: Back on track
Review: Defenders of the Dead, the 5th Jedi Apprentice book, is a realblessing. The first two were excellent, the third good but boring, and the fourth had degraded to pointless meandering. So it was with some skepticism that I finally pickup up this one.

At first I was dissappointed...But through the second half of the book, the character interactions between Master and Apprentice were getting interesting, things were actually happening, and we got a neat cliffhanger... I've found myself enjoying the YA SW books again.

Summary: Jedi Apprentice: Defenders of the Dead
Review: If you read only one of the Jedi Apprentice books, read this one. Why? Cause it's the one that will get you hooked. In defenders of the dead, Jude Watson explores Obi-Wan's relationship with Qui-Gon. She gives us the opportunity to laugh at the antics of the characters, to yell at Qui-Gon's stubborness, (why can't he be a LITTLE closer?), to shout when the Young go into battle plans, to wonder at the twists. And she lets us cry when Obi-Wan makes his decision. It gives us a perfect visual picture. Can you imagine Obi-Wan's final words "I have found something more important Master", as he caringly hands Qui-Gon his lightsaber? You see, you have to read #6 and #7, or it will drive you mad(trust me). In short, get this book. Borrow it, buy it, whatever. Just read it. "Your destiny it is".
