Rating: Summary: Couldn't Put It Down Review: "The Apprentice" 'was a have to keep reading book'. From beginnig to end I was drawn in. Tense enough to make you leave the light on good. And I knew all the roads and places from going to and traveling around Boston. Even the Turtle Pond Parkway struck a nerve. Read it.It's great!
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: This isn't the first book I've read by Tess Gerritsen. I started out with Life Support a few years ago, but I had never read any of her other works until just recently, when I finished The Apprentice. I love the character Detective Jane Rizzoli. She's fabulous. I think what I love most is Tess Gerritsen mixes just the right amount of romantic passion with mystery and suspense. I couldn't wait to finish it, and I have already ordered The Surgeon. I hope she will write another novel with Detective Rizzoli solving another case. I look forward to reading many more of her books.
Rating: Summary: A Very Good Sequel Review: This book is a sequel to Gerritsen's The Surgeon. It's one year later and another hot summer in Boston. Detective Jane Rizzoli is on the trail of a killer who's crimes bear a similarity to the Surgeon who she helped put behind bars the previous summer. In this outing, the attention centers more on Rizzoli. Her prickly nature is a little off-putting at first, but I grew to like and admire her as the story progressed. I did miss Detective Thomas Moore who played a large part in the previous book. I found myself anxious to resume reading each time I had to put this book down. It held my interest throughout and the action was non-stop. The content is fairly grizzly and might not be for everyone. I would strongly recommend reading The Surgeon before picking this one up. As a sequel, it lived up to all of my expectations. A very good read.
Rating: Summary: A Good Book But Far From Gerritsen's Best! Review: Overall, The Apprentice held my interest and I enjoyed it. However, this sequel to The Surgeon pales in comparison. For my taste, Gerritsen spent too much time discussing the concerns and fears of her main character, Jane Rizzoli, and not enough with the serial killer, Warren Hoyt and in providing exciting twists and turns. I kept waiting and waiting for the suspense to build to a slam-bang ending; however, the ending was much too abrupt and not very suspenseful, and, thus, left me somewhat disappointed. If you've read The Surgeon and are interested in finding out what happens next, The Apprentice is a worthwhile read. But, as I said, it's far from her best works. I'd recommend that you read some of Gerritsen's earlier books such as Harvest and The Surgeon.
Rating: Summary: Another tough one to put down Review: I've been a fan of Gerritsen since her first book, Bloodstream. This is the 3rd book of hers that I've read, and this lady has some staying power! I was afraid that she would become lackadaisical like Grisham and turn into a book machine. This book is the follow up to The Surgeon. So... read it first. There are many references back to that book. Being a medical professional, I find her attention to detail wonderful. She never loses my interest.
Rating: Summary: Not my favorite by Ms. Gerritsen Review: I'm not really sure how to write this review...or how many stars to give it...as it really depends on your tastes. If you read THE SURGEON and you expect to find the same suspense and twists...you'll be disappointed I think in THE APPRENTICE. If you read THE SURGEON and are interested in what happens to the characters after...as almost an epilogue...then you will like THE APPRENTICE. In THE APPRENTICE, although there are murders going on, the focus seems not to be on the killer in this book as it is on Detective Rizzoli and how she's really coping. Basically, I would not recommend this as a sample of Ms. Gerritsen's writing. She's much better at suspense and story telling than THE APPRENTICE. BUT, if you choose to read THE SURGEON, you would probably enjoy reading THE APPRENTICE simply to follow up with the characters.
Rating: Summary: keeps your interest to the end Review: Actually, I would give this book four and a half stars. It is well written, keeps your interest and keeps you thinking all the way through. The characters, for the most part, are believable and interesting. I am one of those people that when asked how I liked a book, I have to judge it on how I felt while reading and after reading it, rather than going into detail about the plot, etc. I really liked this book and I will be reading more of her other books as some of the reviewers say she has better books.
Rating: Summary: Not her best work Review: I have enjoyed Tess Gerritsen's work in the past but this is not representative of it. Pass on this one and read "Gravity", "Bloodstream", and/or "The Surgeon" instead.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: Absolutely atrocious writing! Ninety nine percent of the book directly involved the main character Jane Rizzoli. There was marginal direct involvement of the character Warren Hoyt and practically nothing to develop the character of the "Apprentice". I found myself questioning many of the situations in the book. They either lacked in originality to the point where the situation was too farfetched to be believable, or the situation seemed to lack any relevance to the general flow of the storyline. The ending was truly disappointing as it both peaked and concluded literally within a mere couple paragraphs. If you want something riveting that will keep you on the end of your seat, keep looking.
Rating: Summary: don't give it away!!! Review: I have not read either "The Surgeon" or "The Apprentice" yet, but was planning to read them both on an upcoming vacation. I looked at the reviews here to see if they were as positive as reviews I've heard from friends. I was EXTREMELY disappointed to find that, in the review of this book, the name of the killer in the first book is given away! Even in the editorial reviews! I guess I won't be reading "The Surgeon" now... Major bummer.
